Hire a Lavazza pod coffee machine for free but need to spend $120 every 3 months for capsules

40

If you commit to buying $120 worth of capsules ($1/capsule) every 3 months, you'll get a Lavazza capsule machine to hire for free. No contract…looks like if you stop buying capsules, you just send back the machine.

With a normal machine, a coffee with milk would probably cost around 80c (40c coffee and 40c milk). With this pod machine, a coffee with milk would cost about $1.40 ($1 pod coffee and 40c milk).

Looks like a pretty good deal if you drink a coffee a day and couldn't be fussed using a manual machine plus you don't want the outlay cost of a new machine. However, given that each coffee cost 60c more, after a few years you would have probably spent enough to buy a new machine initially.

$12 shipping if you order under $150 a month … so really its $132 or $150 minimum.

    • I already added the shipping in…it's $108 + $12 shipping = $120.

  • Nothing special here… this was the standard offer 4 years ago, we had a 100 coffee free trial (20 person office), and decided to send it back as we were looking at 200+ coffees per week. We purchased a $4,000 Zura fully automatic machine, and go through about 1-2kg of coffee a week (about 125 coffee per KG @ $30/kg for good premium coffee beans). So in our case for the $4k outlay, we are saving about $150/week.
For small/home users I think pod coffee is great, I use a nespresso at home, that you can buy for $300 and the pods average about 70c each incl delivery. No mess, no fuss.

    • Yeah, thought I'd post it anyway.

If a Nespresso costs $300 and the pods 70c, this offer is 30c extra per coffee so to reach the $300 outlay, you'll need to get through 1000 coffees before breaking even.

      • Which at 120 coffees every 3 months, would take a little less than 3 years. More importantly though, you aren't forced to pay for the 120 coffees every three months, and you actually own your own coffee machine at the end of it.

It is a good deal if you have the volume (would be good in an office / shared environment) but even if it is cheaper per coffee, it could end up more expensive if you aren't intending to drink all that coffee!

  • We have one of these in the office. Coffee is not that great even in comparison to Nespresso. Could be the 2 flavour of pods the company gets. Then again nespresso is not that great as well.

If you're a coffee lover buy a ginder and beans you like. Nothing beats freshly ground coffee.

  • I have just got a nespresso machine, I am really enjoying the coffee pods. Coffee is very nice. Replaced a more expensive machine. This deal is probably a bit much for the average house though.
