Mortal Online is a first-person Sandbox MMORPG. This game is nothing like other MMORPG's, that are just basically World of Warcraft Clones. It's basically Eve Online meets UO. You could probably call this UO2. Definitely recommend trying it out. Latency is fine in Australia too!

The interesting thing about the game is you HAVE to specialise, because there is a skill cap and there are so many skills for one profession. I chose to be a butcher, which means I have to buy meat from other players and butcher them and then sell the materials butchered to other players. I could buy elephant carcasses from a player, then cut them up and sell the leather to an armor crafter, who could turn them into a sturdy leather armor, or sell the animal teeth and bones to a weapon crafter , who can turn them into sharp bone blades.

The game is so in-depth that person working with metal does not need to be a miner, but instead can refine metals, such as refining metals at a furnace to produce steel, or extracting metals from mined rock sold by players. Different metals and rocks mixed with different catalysts(water, salt, coal, bor) and with different tools (grinders, crushers, furnaces, etc.) produce different quantities of metal. You need to experiment to find the best combinations!

Fishing is also interesting, different parts of the world have different fish, and there are many variables that can affect what fish you catch, such as different bait, different time of the day, different how deep you place your fishing line, the type of hook you use, etc. Fishing is also an interesting mini-game, and is not just click on the water.

Some classes that you can create :
Cook
Butcher
Herbalist/Alchemist
Hunter
Explorer
Warrior
Murderer
Miner
Woodcutter
Weapon Crafter
Armor Crafter
Fisher
Animal Tamer
Thief
House Architect
etc..

Mortal Online is a next generation PC MMORPG both in terms of graphics and gameplay. An open realistic world where you are free to choose your own path. Experience true real-time combat where you decide every move your character makes and where your personal skill really matters.

Build your own house, or set up a guild to build a keep. With enough power, violence or diplomacy, you and your allies will be able to rule an entire nation.

Choose from many different races and professions. You decide your own style of playing and whether to focus on PvP or PvE, both sharing the same game world. Devote your life to crafting, combat, magic or trading. Discover new skills, tools and resources. Or be the first to explore new areas to put your name on the map.

      Looks interesting.

I can't find any actual dates either but since it's a "summer" offer, you would assume that it will run all summer (northern hemisphere) long. Can the OP confirm this?

      • Hope so, downloading the trial but wont be able to try it out till atleast this weekend.
Totally bored of WoW, and still have random urges to play UO often so would defiantly like to try it out.

Huge UO fan over the years

Heh, first time I've given UO a moment's thought in a few years. I first played UO in early 1996, at the pre-alpha stage of testing, and to my 13 year-old self it felt like the future of gaming. WoW and most other MMORPGs have never really grabbed me in the same way, mostly because they lack the freedom that UO had.

Feeling rather nostalgic now; I might give this game and the UO trial a go. :P

UO was/is awesome. I'm in the same boat, no game has really ever grabbed me like UO did.

      • Quite a lot of free servers still around these days if your after the UO of old, rather than the latest with gargoyles and what not.
Id just up and buy it tonight, steam sales wiping my gaming budget out.-_-

  • I played this for a few months straight after release, it wasn't exactly stable but the devs have some really grand plans and they stand by what they believe in.

It was an epic few months that I played ended up leaving after a little while, I didn't have the time and couldn't continue paying for something I wasn't playing. Highly recommend the game! I might even start playing again! :P
