  • Nice laptop! For me personally I find the 8GB RAM limit quite frustrating. I am noticing more and more that 8GB is now more focused towards the basic computer user.

  • I got this a week ago.
I really like it. The only downside so far is I find the keyboard a bit too soft.

    • I've read from reviews that this model can produce really bad coil whine. Do you get this on yours?

        Red or white?

      • There is a bit when the ssd is being read/written to. I wouldn't say it is worse than other laptops, though.

Hmm at this price point might as well spend few hundred extra for XPS 13. XPS 13 has vastly superior Matte screen.

    • I disagree. You would be paying an extra $300+ for QHD and slightly better colour accuracy on a smaller screen.

      • Depends on your usage scenario I guess. I would never buy glossy screen no matter how good or cheap.

          The ZenBook is also matte.

    • Afaik XPS 13 starting with 9370 went all glossy.

Unless they have changed that again.

      • 9380 non-touch 1080p screen is definitely matte screen. You can check notebookcheck and other reviews for confirmation.

        • meh. It looks nicer when it's glossy.

  • Will be getting a 13-14" laptop with dedicated GPU (MX-150 or greater) for work and sneaky WoW classic sessions when away from the desktop. Looking at the ZenBooks and MSI PS42's due to their reasonable price.

Does anybody have any other recommendations?

I got a MSI PS63 today. Love the design and power for it’s size. It’s a 15.6” but in a slightly smaller chassis overall. Only 1.6kg as well!

Best bit is the 80-82whr battery which gives it a long life between charges. I think the 16hrs marketed in a long stretch, many reviews say 8-12hrs with regular browsing etc.

eBay has them going for $1544 at Wireless1 with a 1050ti maxq in them with 8gb ram and 512gb nvme. RAM and SSD can easily be upgraded and it has provisions for another m.2 sata drive. If you can spare going up to a slightly larger laptop I’d recommend it!

Looking forward to some sneaky WoW Classic sessions too ;)

For context I was replacing a Laptop Surface 13.5” which I found a little small to use at a work desk. The PS63 is not that much larger while incorporating a reasonably larger screen and much better CPU and GPU, while only weight 400g more. I carry it around in my gym bag to and from work on a decent walk and the walk home from work was no different, I couldn’t really feel the weight difference.

Really looking forward to getting stuck in to using it once it’s all set up.

  • Does anyone know what the big difference(s) is with the UX430UN?

    • Bigger SSD and Windows 10 Pro from a quick glance
