  • LOL at the title.

    • Oops maybe I should add tv to the title!

      • +1

It should read Okano, not Onaka

Onaka by the way, means "stomach" in japanese.

        • Oops again!

    What's the regular price ???

    • -1

No idea, I just got the catalog and thought it would be nice to share, everyone else is always quicker at posting, so I thought I would get in quick, even if it turns out to be a dud deal!

      • It would be good to check first before posting so you do not waste everybody's time IF it is a dud deal.

Its not about posting it quick… if that's the case, the mods will be going nuts removing dud deals

        • +1

I did quickly check, it had been posted on here before but not this cheap for a non refurbished one, so I thought it was a cheap price.

  • -2

yeah not full HD = no bargain… when full hd can be had at this price…

    • +1

where can full hd be got at this price post links plz

      • man do i have to go to the n'th level each time i comment. there have been a few deals posted on oz bargains for 32"s at 299

soniq was the most obvious one. jb also had a different brand at that price… they do pop up, they can be had at this price… maybe not all the time… but why spend this much and not get a FULL HD anyway?

        • the only 32" less was dse deal for 278 and then you could combine with amex $50 cashback but that has expired for 228 not full HD
          Soniq not full HD either
again no proof re your post

        • erm soniqs for 299 where FULL HD… but thats not the current price either.

        • -1

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49051

          I rest my case….

also there where are a few on the whirlpool thread…

      • -4

There were plenty of deals for $299 with Full HD. This was is not a bargain. If you go instore to Dicksmith, they would negotiate a Full HD sonique to this price.

        • +3

          DSE don't sell Soniq!

And to date there's only been one listed on OzBargain, a 32" Soniq for $299 @ JB.

        • As mentioned, Soniq is the JB house brand so not available at Dick Smith (or anywhere else). The house brand at DSE 32" tv is usually $399 and occassionally on special for $350 but in my experience with 2 different stores they wouldnt go below that price (lucky for me, as I ended up getting the $299 one at JB).

In short, theres been 1 $299 full HD 32" tv in recent memory, certainly not heaps. And this isn't available at that price anymore.

    • +2

It's only 32"! Who cares about FullHD when you have to be a metre away to tell?

      • +2

Everyone harps on about fullHD. You cant tell the difference in this size tv and if you play blu rays, it upscales to full hd anyways.

        • You are mostly correct, the resolution itself means very little at this size.

But just so everyone is aware

a Sony Bravia 1366x768 is going to look MUCH better then this Okano 1366x768.

However for the price its definitively worth it and it should look quite good.

        • Samfish I thought the same at first, but this tv's picture quality is outstanding. I still cant believe how good it is. Honestly, I've always been a snob and have only ever owned Sony, LG or Samsung lcd's, but this is a really good tv for a really good price.
I've never jumped on to OzB and promoted a product before, but I feel I have to with this tv. Its been a joy use.

        • It does matter if you plan to use it as a monitor…

        • +1

But 1080p for a monitor that size is pretty nasty!
Great for someone who's half blind and needs large text and OK for watching video, but not useful in the general sense.

        • I bought the Soniq one and use it as a monitor - it's fantastic! Great for movies and games, but I admit I don't use it for that much text/web browsing. Don't know if I could go back to my 16:10 24".

My #1 hate on ozbargain is people like you.

It should be a bannable offense to say you can get it cheaper elsewhere but not post where…

      • -1

my #1 hate is people who make others do all the work and dont do any reseach for themselves!

I assume you know about the Soniq…not currently availible, but proves that prices go down that low.

maybe i should have said - have been had at that price. I know your going to come up with- but where do i go if i want one right now…

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/37623
        —339 - yeah still a bit more

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/46911
        —cheaper HD (not full)

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47708
        —referb though.

the kogans are about 50 bux more at full HD…still more though.

        • -1

So lets ban any fuel bargains, because it used to be 50c a litre therefore it has to be lower then that!

        • -1

oh come on, without getting into a personal attack about that comment… REALLY?

Everyone knows fuel goes up - tech goes down, its a long standing trend… or do i need to provide examples of that too?

        • -1

see told you another one would come up….

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49051

feels good to be right :P

there where also a few in the soniq whirlpool thread.

        • Wisc, not every Coles have these, my local certainly doesn't it. It's not an Australian wide bargain.

        • shhhh stop ruining my cool story!

        • +1

You thought you could be sneaky sneaky and no one would see your "told you so" hahaha I won't tell anyone!

Great TV! I bought one 2 weeks ago and it has fantastic picture quality and is responsive when changing channels, viewing the program guide, ect. The screen has minimal glare, good colour contrast and the lcd swivels. Such a bargain for the price. I got a 5 year warranty (return to JB) thrown in by the JB sales lady for $50. Probably not necessary but she was cute lol.

Also as a bonus, it plays most of the popular file formats. I hooked up my 1TB hard disc drive and it played just about all files with no problems. In fact I cant remember it not playing a file. I've now hooked up a 640 gig Samsung S2 HDD to record tv shows on. The format needs to be fat32 however you can format the HDD for PVR recording via the settings in the tv menu. Records good, you can set time recording and I also believe the tv has time shift recording capability(pause tv, record it to hdd and playback).

The only gripe I have is the program guide. Whilst it is responsive and has the 7 day guide, you need to plow through the tv channels individually and it can become a bit fiddly. If you know when / what shows you want to record its fine but if you want to browse the week in entirity, it would be worthwhile jumping online to view all tv channels and programs at once.

I waited a few months for a tv and glad I went with this one. Great deal and a great tv for sub $300. Also, not sure how true this is, but I have read on a few occassions that Okano uses older Samsung components. It wouldnt suprise me, the tv picture and colour contrast is fantastic.

$299 for a 32" LCD FFS..what more do people want? AWESOME PRICE for a second/bedroom TV!

  • anyone confirm whether this has VGA input?

edit: just rang and confirmed it does.

  • +2

I never thought that I would see anyone say this - - -> "Not as good as the Soniq tv…"

    • why? Okano is a better brand?

  • Does it play rmvb format? or anyone know which TV can play rmvb without mediaplay, just the TV's own USB port only. There are some chinese made TV can play rmvb from their own USB port. I saw it in overseas but not in AU.
    Thanks

    • the last offer $299 32" SONIQ sold by JB Hi-Fi does play RMVB!
I'm quite happy with the purchase, and my other 42" LCD by Aldi doesn't play RMVB!

since there're few different 32" SONIQ models, I would say it's best you bring a few USB flash drives with RMVB files to JB Hi-Fi and test it before buying?

  • from the picture - this looks exactly like the SONIQ one (which I bought).

    • i have to agree, except for the full hd aspect it appears to have pretty much the same features, i would take a guess here and say the same electronics, same 2 X hdmi, same remote(?), same price but slightly different panel

  • Anyone know if this model relates to this 42" one:

    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/okano-pr/?utm_source=adserver&utm_m…

  • Just bought one yesterday from JB , great little tv , only problem is I cant seem to get full screen when using the usb port . I scroll through "source" to "media" and select movie , the movie plays but only in a small thumbnail on the right hand side of the screen … any suggestions ?????? other than that well pleased with purchase

  • Is that blue bit at the bottom a light? Because I could see that getting annoying if it is.
