Just in time for summer. I bought 2 of these late last year during the Good Guys eBay 20% sale for $111. At $76.79 with free delivery by Amazon Australia, it is a steal so picked up 2 more. Functions include:-
- A choice of 3 fan speeds, and nature and wind settings; allow you to quickly cool the room, then adjust to keep you feeling just right
- The timer automatically switches the fan off after a pre-set number of hours: 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours; Change your setting on the fan or with the remote control
- Cool as well as handy
- A powerful, tall fan with a handy carry handle to easily move around the house

Good Guys selling this model for $139 while Myers has it as $149.

allow you to quickly cool the room

A fan can only move air around a room, it can never cool it. Only an air conditioner or an evaporative cooler can cool a room.

List of functions is taken directly from Amazon. Anyway I have my fan in front of an open window during evenings which helps to cool down the room.

These tower fans are pretty average, in my opinion. Noisy, move less air, are far more expensive to buy, and they cost more $$ to run!!

Lastly (and this is just personal taste) - they look pretty ugly in my view. A regular Kmart pedestal fan is less of an eyesore! But I can appreciate that many people would disagree on this last point, and in fact the aesthetics may be the main selling point of these devices…

    • I’m a light sleeper but I could sleep with this fan. You are right on the aesthetic reason, I didn’t want a regular pedestal fan.

If you have a smaller room, a pedestal fan might take up too much space. The incredibly flimsy, large-footprint base of those cheap Kmart pedestal fans don't seem to last very long either.

I much prefer the look of these tower fans. They have a much smaller footprint and look more modern than a pedestal fan. They do put out less air, but in a smaller room I find it perfectly adequate.

I only paid ~$30-40 for my Dimplex remote-controlled tower fan. I had to regrease the bearings for the first time yesterday. The build date on a sticker inside says it's from 2007 which sounds about right - so I have no complaints over the price.

  • Inexpensive box fans are good.
