[VIC] Used Herman Miller Mirra Office Chair V1 No Armrests. $150 or less @ The Chairman (Maribyrnong)

540

Just got a good condition used HM Mirra v1 chair. These are ex corporate use and some have been resprayed to make them more presentable. All in generally good condition there were a few with a slight nick in the mesh seat and these were closer to $100.

I tested a few to check gas lift etc. Guy was helpful and happy to negotiate if you want more than 1.

These are a love or hate type of chair so YMMV. No arm rests available. Price is for the dark colour chairs whereas other places sell the funky coloured ones a bit cheaper.

Seems like a good price for this type of chair. Around 30-40 available.

Place is normally open mon-fri but will open for an hour on sat mornings if you call in advance.

Also same price on ebay as per link https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Herman-Miller-Mirra-V1-Light-Gre…

Address: 24 White street Maribyrnong

    What happened to the armrests?

    • +6

Corporate places generally don't use arms as you can't get as close to a desk which becomes a H&S issue.

      • +2

You can adjust it to go under the table. Or alternatively you can adjust the table.

        • +6

Nope, my arm rests don't go low enough to go under my desk, and my desk doesn't adjust.
          I hate this every weekday.

          • -1

@damion: Not everyone/every workplace is using the exact same desk as you, they are made adjustable for this reason.

            • +4

@magic8ballgag: @Lorindor however you'll find the vast majority of desks are at a universal standard height 735mm. Anyway thats my annoying 2 cents, peace out !

              • @glustar24: I work in the property team for a large company. At least 60% of our desks are adjustable, and a huge chunk of those are adjustable to a standing height,

Our new offices don’t have a single chair with an armrest. Days gone by we would have had armrest chairs in meeting rooms, but the fail, break, don’t allow you to get under the desk properly.

What do you need armrests for anyway?

          • +1

@damion: Can u unscrew and remove arm rests?

            • @OBEY YOUR MASTERS: I could. I'm just hoping that if I complain enough I'll just get a new chair without them!

      • +1

Some will also argue they encourage slouching and given OH&S claims it’s easier to just avoid the issue.

      • We had people breaking the chairs and sit/stand desks by lowering the desks on to the chairs…

  • +1

They should be in the Classified forum.

    • +1

Hence my comment to the mods to decide. Problem is it isn't person selling a single item. I dunno.

  • Can you buy armrests separately?

    • +1

Yes you can but you should look for used ones as new would cost more than the chair.

  • how much to delivery to sydney? thanks

    • Dunno but they will sent via star track according to the ebay listing

      • +1

That means they will turn up in Darwin with armrests :P

  • Sorry slightly confused, do I just go the address to check them out on a weekday? How does one call them

    • +6

You call them on the phone. A recent invention called a search engine will get you the phone number which is 0478 245 960.

      • What did ya google

        • The address and the name of the company.

          • @Maverick-au: The name of the company is not obvious to me

            • @HappyXD: Click on the eBay link or go to the second page of Google.

            • +3

@HappyXD: I thought it was "Some a Bit Less Depends on Condition"

              • @cozmo: Could be

              • @cozmo: Yeah one or two had a slight nic in the mesh seat and were priced lower. TBH the guy was reasonable so might accept a fair offer. one of the nic-ed ones was priced at about $90-$100

I have one of the chairs. They’re ok, but keep in mind you can’t really sit in odd positions on it, I like sitting on my legs sometimes but the rim is very hard plastic.

Other than that, very ergonomic, literally everything is adjustable, and I can sit for HOURSSS comfortably. Not that you should lol, but you can on these chairs.

    • This is my only reservation, I too like sitting in odd positions, including on my legs, and yeah, I suspect the hard plastic rim will not be good in this regard.

But, maybe I should stop doing that (even though its only a fraction of the time in a day) to actually get the benefit of these ergonomics for the rest of the day 🤔

  • Anyone know where to buy decently priced shipped replacement gas lift cylinders for this chair? Got 2 that need replacing

    • Cylinders are $100-$150 on fleabay and there's places in the likes of Sydney that sell them for even more.

      • Cheers

Lol I just found one in poor condition 20 minutes after my first post driving back from Bunnings through a Kerbside Clean Up Area, The guy rolling it out onto the foot path said I could have it. At least it has a working gas lift, Time to fix one of my other Mira Chairs in way better condition up. lol https://imgur.com/a/FkWxTwG

i have this exact chair, very comfortable to sit in if u like to do that for hours, mesh fabric allows farts to dissipate quickly, i found mine for $120 and its the best purchase Ive made for cheap. I miss the armrests but u get used to it.

    • +6

Looks like you pumped a few farts into hiska's chair by the looks of things.

      • -2

Hahaha I'm not Mexican :-).. Looks like someone must have been standing on or jumping on the chair and fell through it, all the plastic base is also cracked at least the Gas Cylinder is working and I can hopefully transfer it to another Mirra chair. I just need to get another one for my second Mirra chair, Too bad the replacement OEM Gas Cylinder Replacements with postage from the States cost's nearly more than a second hand Mirra chair locally.

  • Have this at work, it causes me back pain. Few others have the same issue, definitely not for everyone

  • I bought one of this from the same seller.

The one I got is made in 2003, certainly very worn and the mesh is saggy. Would need replacement on the seat pan definitely.

The whole chair reeks of cigarette smell too

    • Maybe a different batch as the one I got has a good tight mesh. No cigarette smell. Just a whiff of spray paint where it was touched up. I think this batch came from Helstra so deffo no smoking there.

      • They don't use these at Hlstra. They use chairs that are about $100 new, unless it's from the exec floors

    • Maybe came off the set of the Great Gatsby movie.

  • A used office chair on OB?

    • +6

Wait till you see how much they cost new.

  • +1

Thanks OP purchased a Herman Miller Embody! your prompt made me search Gumtree and ended with a purchase of a nearby Embody:)

  • i picked one up a couple months back from the same seller.

great condition for the price. definitely better than buying an officeworks chair, no armrest - but as a guitarist, its a feature!

  • What is the manufacture year of their stock?

  • Bought one, if it's good I'll get some more.

  • +2

Meh to the deal, these show up on Gumtree all the time. I bought a 2015 model a few months back for $100 WITH the arm rests.

  • -1

Just some feedback on these chairs - I had them at work for over 12 months and I they are Terrible!! - the plastic back makes it hard and sore and the base is really uncomfortable too. I'm not a big guy but all the staff (10+) didn't like it either…. your mileage may vary but don't expect too much. its not a nice chair. some used office places will have these chairs for less than 20 if it suits you. 150 is too much $$

    • +4

Yeah pretty sure you didn’t buy genuine Herman Millers

  • +1

Bought a second hand Aeron with armrests for work a few months back. I considered the Mirra as it was considerably cheaper but lacked the arm rests. Glad I went with the Aeron has the adjustable arm rest and overall quality/comfort is life changing. No more aches and pains after work.

    • +1

"Life changing" really describes it, we picked up an Aeron for $20 at a Vinnies and another for $20 from a Salvos could not be happier!

      • I think you may have bought the Areon model.

  • Picked up a few.
Decent for the price. They're all in varying condition so make sure you inpect well. I managed to get them for $120.

  • Nice guy, helpful, patient and friendly service. Happy with purchase.

  • Guy was easy to work with, getting it shipped to NSW via star track 30 extra per chair. I just hope there’s no rips in the fabric since I can’t inspect before purchasing. The eBay photos don’t show it but pretty sure they’re just generic photos.
