SteelSeries Arctis 3 Gaming Headset - White $59, Black $69 + Delivery @ Dick Smith by Kogan

390

Hey all,

Was looking at a headset for my mate, and came across this pricing for the Arctis 3. These tend to generally sit around the $100 mark. So pretty great deal for a quality headset. I looked at Delivery for Melbourne inner suburbs and it came to $15.99. So still a nice $25 cheaper than normal.

It doesn't look like the 2019 edition, so possibly they're clearing them out. This is also the Wired version, not the Bluetooth version.

White $59 + Delivery

Black $69 + Delivery

Love mine. Very comfortable and they look great!

    • Yeah I've got the Pro Wireless, and all my gaming group have the 3/5/7 as well. Their headsets are super comfortable and sound great.

  • wow tempting, but I have already have enough headphones i.e. Audiophile ones, wireless ones and gaming ones.

it could just be a MSY thing, but had purchased 2 of these for the boys from MSY at the start of the year, both of them stopped working within 6 months..
which has put me off them, but i guess any brand can have issues.. or it could just be MSY selling dodgy products..
but thats a good price, nice find!

Yeah that is a little odd, and unfortunate. If it helps at all, I have two mates that have had them for 12 months+ and have had no issues at all with them. So you may have been terribly unlucky.

      • unlucky would be about right!! might just stay away from MSY me thinks..

Did you try RMAing them? Steelseries were quite good to me when my cheapy wired mouse started acting up after 6 months. They replaced it with their most expensive wireless mouse and I didn't have to ship anything to them.

      • Hi I am wondering if there is any difference in sound between USB & 3.5mm connection.
The specs claim a THD of 3% which is terrible, I am also wondering if this is only the case with USB connection or if these headphones just simply have high Total Harmonic Distortion.

        • Can't help you, I don't own these headphones.

    • my mic died on a pair of these, at around 11 months, speakers still worked fine.

    • I am using mine for 2.5 years now. Works wonders

you can even switch it to single jack and connect it to your phones consoles etc

I tried these and absolutely hated them, felt cheap and nasty, my Corsair HS50's absolutely blew them out of the water. Ive also heard bad things in regards to them failing after not very long.

The wireless version of these are excellent however but much more expensive.

  • Has anyone ever owned Corsair Void Pro's and play FPS that is heavily reliant on surround sound? Because I own them and they suck. Wondering if these are better and/or any other headphones.

  • I had the wireless version of these and they were super uncomfortable. My head is on the bigger side, and they JUST fit with no extra room. Had to return them as they were a massive step down in comfort from my AKG k702 pair

Kogan have the same deal obviously, but both have that insane shipping cost… this isn't eligible for Kogan First, either.

  • Here in the info for the Arctis 3 under “S1 Speaker Drivers” they claim ‘Ultra-low distortion’, but in the specs the THD is 3% which is pretty terrible.
I checked the official website and the ‘Ultra-low distortion’ claim has been removed, but specs are the same with THD: 3%.

I am guessing this is a typo, or it is the THD over the USB connection.

If any owners could confirm the sound difference between USB & 3.5mm connection that would be appreciated.

  • I've asked around & people who work at Steelseries say these are most likely grey-imports. Good luck getting that 24 month warranty to stick - I guess that's the price you pay? chuckles (Edit: Extended care means you have to send the headphones away)

    • Pretty sure most ozbargainers are aware of Kogan and therefore will avoid.

I am still wondering about the distortion specs though, usually distortion measurements are around <0.1%.
Steelseries claim <3%, they must openly be selling headphones with high-distortion (even though they claim Ultra-low distortion in their early product flyer).

      • Fair enough, just stating why they would be this cheap. Steelseries never discount this hard, they don't have to. I have an Arctis 7 & am very happy with the sound quality, no distortion. I think the whole Arctis range from 1-7 use the same audio drivers so I doubt the 3s will have any distortion. Maybe these are old stock? Any Steelseries headset with a USB connection will give you better sound quality because the signal will be digital, plus I use their software to tweak my settings because I prefer low bass & the headset keeps the settings when I plug it into my PlayStation.

        • I think the whole Arctis range from 1-7 use the same audio drivers

Yes in the flyer I linked in the comment above it does state all models use the same ‘S1 Speaker Drivers’.

I just checked the specs for ‘Arctis Pro’ and it says THD: <1%.
Since the measurement is ‘<’ (less-than) I am thinking they simply put <3% on their cheaper models to sway people to buy their more expensive models which state <1%.
So it could be the case that <3% = <1%, and they all have the same distortion levels of <1%.

Any Steelseries headset with a USB connection will give you better sound quality because the signal will be digital,

I just thought if using with USB connection the headset would be using an internal DAC / Amplifier (inside the headset) instead of the ones in the computer audio, and if Steelseries used a cheap DAC / amplifier it could be the cause of higher distortion levels.
