  • Just my 2 cents, your link of best smart home 2019 says Amazon Echo Dot is the Best Budget Smart Home Hub, but it can not control anything without another real 'hub' like the samsung one or philipe one.

So I'd recommnd buy something like Echo Plus 2nd Gen, which has Zigbee hub builtin, so you can control philipe hue lights without the need of a dedicated wired philipe hue hub, and you can control xiaomi zigbee plugs as well, without the need of a xiami gate hub.

I guess you can control a lot of zigbee devices with just the echo plus 2nd gen/1st gen. But it doesn't have zwave connection.

    • I put that link more as context for people to understand where the Hubitat sits in the range of hubs available, i.e. it is not a plug and play device.

    • +1

Also to me one of the high positives of something like the Hubitat is its ability to control both ZigBee and Z-Wave (which is unfortunately currently dominating the upper market in Australia for example for smart light switches).

      • The Rule Machine for me is the highest positive about HE.
This is what allows you to truly create home automations.

  • I have been running the HE for a few months now. I really like it.
JB are also selling afew of the smartthings devices that can integrate with this too.

      HE?

Also great thing about this one is it works offline - so no internet wont kill your automations.
Yes - sorry. HE = Hubitat Elevation

Not sure I would put much weight on Toms Hardware any more as I have seen a number of whinges that they are now basically an advertising driven site. Shame really, but they really didn't look at much else.

I use a Fibaro Z Wave and found it works, but a little clunky in comparison to wired systems. When I looked, it was a toss up between it and Vera.

  • HE vs HA?

    • I think it comes down to hardware, i.e. are you willing to design and put it together or you want an all in one ready to go system that you just configure.

  • Moved from HomeSeer to Hubitat for device management.

Both have their pro's and con's but Hubitat definitely has better Google Assistant integration so I use it only for devices and push all of them into HomeSeer for logic/events.

  • I've used Hubitat for over 15 months now. Recommend.

  • Hi, thanks for this. I didn't know about this. I have Fibaro so has anyone gone from Fibaro to Hubitat? I'd love to know their thoughts…thanks

  • yes thanks "at9": done that…very comprehensive list covered and such a cheap unit compared to Fibaro

  • Just bought.

Need to pay $15 USD postage minimum, so total of $125 USD.
That worked out to $184.75 AUD billed to my CC.

  • Tempted , currently running HA on raspberry pi , just wary that hubitat not officially supporting Xiaomi devices

    • They are not officially supported because they dont subscribe to the zigbee protocol. They do work on Hubitat with some provisos. There is a comprehensive thread there to read. Basically, dont use bad repeaters, such as light bulbs (try and keep them on the Hue hub). And make sure there are some good repeaters on your zigbee network.

I have xiaomi stuff. Most stays connected. I have one button that wont stay connected, and I've given up trying to use it.

      • Thank you! I've ordered one to try it out.
Thanks for your tip,I mainly use xiaomi zigbee smart plugs as repeaters for all my xiaomi zigbee stuff.
