A word of warning, overheats like crazy. The 64GB version I've got reaches 80°C sometimes.

Bodge up a heat sink and and a mount I will have myself a cheap coffee warmer for my desk.

      • +4

If I buy enough of these, I'll be able to heat up my house with them

    • +2

I can confirm, I bought 2, used 1 only once then sold them.
In almost 1 minute you can feel it heating up.
Good for small backups from phone when on the move though.

Came here to post the same warning. I bought one last time thinking the warnings were exaggerated.

Spent some time copying photos off a phone for backup, went to pull it out and it seriously hurt my fingers.

Dropped the phone and then it scorched my thigh. Don't underestimate how hot this thing gets

Same here, it's overheats to point where my 32GB & 64GB disconnects consistently on my P30 phone but not on my Dell XPS 13 laptop. It kinda waste of money in my books

  • +3

Agreed, I have the 16gb one and the metal cover is almost too hot to touch, even when not reading or writing. Makes me worried about the reliability of the drive.

    • +8

You wonder how such things make it to production

  • +2

Preferred the "full price" $10 w/ free 64GB stick.

    $15 for 3 of these vs $10 for 32+64GB

I've got this for a few years, and since then I have not had to use my heater in winter

  • +7

Sold bought 1 just to test how hot it gets

  • +3

Wow…might pull the trigger just to test how hot it gets, the comments here have really got me interested now.

  • Damn I only recently got the 16gb 'heater' at OfficeWorks priced match for $3.80 I would of preferred the 32gb but tbh I think it's just a big gimmick.

AND as stated it heats up like crazy

Can anyone recommend a good quality version of this? Type c with decent write speeds and no boiling sun factor.

    • i like this one i haven't really had it plugged in long enough to test heat factor though
as a bonus it has a regular usb type A connector on the other end so you can use it to transfer files from your phone to pc and back

      • Ah I have one of those! Doesn't overheat, but the writing speeds are terrible!

    Hot sale?

    • +2

      Get them while they're hot

      • +2

        It's a smoking deal!

    • +1

I have a burning desire to buy some, but I'll cool my heels.

  • +1

    here for the flamin' comments

  • Just beware, when you use it on your mobile, it will heat like burning! I got 2 but so far not dare to use them on my mobile, scared this will ignite my phone XD

  • Nah, I bought this one and won a 64GB one during a promotion there.
It is not worth. It is slow asf and like everyone already said, it gets hot like crazy.
This might looks a great deal but it is not worth as you cannot use it properly.

  • Bought 2 today nice one

  • Great prank present!

  • Will this heat up a small office? The air con is too cold at my work.

  • The comments saved me from buying these overheating junks, thanks everyone.

  • The next time these USB deals are posted, copy and paste this:

Flash drive for USB Type-C devices
High-speed USB 3.1 performance of up to 150MB/s2
Super-thin, retractable design to protect the small USB Type-C connector
Also functions as a mini-heater of up to 100 degrees within 1 minute

  • Hey folks, most USB drives get hot but they are mostly if not all polycarbonate i.e plastic and plastic doesn't really transfer heat that well which is good.

I have found the metal USB especially the faster 3.1 ones do get hot ( depending on the chipset ) as they are metal. Metal is great at heat transfer and these 3.1 ones run hot. I have a non-metal cased version and after 5 min they feel just warm once removed. Replace the case with metal and you have a giant heat sink.

Hence why most USB drives are plastic. I never used type c 3.1 ones wonder what chipset and memory they use and is it the Type C connector causes it to run hotter. If they are too hot can just ask for a refund. Or you can use it to erase your fingerprints :P lol

But the price makes it a damn good price from around 15 to 20 normally. And it has a warranty and as long it doesn't corrupt data. Just don't buy metal USB. I have the Sandisk usb3.0 bar plus usb and i realized even those get rather warm to the touch

  • Just checked the SanDisk support site on this drive and yep it def gets hot as the sun! Maybe that's why they dropped the price, looks like a return, or prank people by asking them to pull it out :P

Seems a couple of drives have this issue
