  • Seems a good deal. Is this as good as Advocate?

Pretty sure Advocate doesn't cover tapeworms, this one does

      • I’m just as concerned about the quality of the product. Some flea meds give terrible side effects. My dogs are currently on nexguard spectra which is about $100 for 6. Never heard of the Big 5- are they a well respected brand?

All American flea/worm treatments go through FDA approval so they're as safe as any other flea treatment on the market. With that being said, side effects are a possibility with any new medication (whether it's for humans or for pets).

As for the actual brands…Interceptor is an older brand and has similar active ingredients to other wormers. Credelio (the flea/tick treatment portion) is fairly new on the market, though it seems to be a fairly mild flea/tick treatment since it is also used for cats and young kittens in America (I don't think it's available in Australia as a cat treatment. We have weird restrictions around tick treatments for cats here…)

If you can afford Nextguard Spectra, I would stick to it.

It covers more than Advocate. Advocate covers fleas, heartworm and worms, but doesn't cover tapeworm or ticks.

The Big 5 comes with Credelio tablets (which cover the flea and tick portion) and Interceptor chews (which cover the heartworm and worm portion).

So you're definitely getting a better deal with the Big 5….but only if you don't have any problem giving your dog a tablet or chew lol.
