Best store to buy from - 24 month price protection

I'm keen for a phone upgrade; my LG V20 is feeling a bit meh. You know how it is.

I have an old Coles Mastercard that provides 24 month price protection. If I were to buy a phone now, which store is likely to have a good sale and provide the lowest price within 24 months?

It's a bit vague I know (especially given that I don't know what phone I'm after yet), but I'm trying to gauge which stores you've seen that have good sales and would give the best discount within two years. If any particular store(s) come to mind, please let me know so I can do a bit more research :)

Thanks friends!

I got mine from mobileciti ebay and found they had competive prices as time went on (for my phone)

But does your price protection need to be from the same retailer, or can any retailer do

  • Oops, should've specified! The price protection only applies for the same retailer.

Mobileciti do have great prices and pop up pretty frequently. Good call!

ETA: whoopsie, I pressed reply but then changed tabs it must've reset.

  • wait? how would that work?

Samsung s8 was released in june(?) 2017, I think it was $1,000 on release.
Now, no one is even selling the S8 anymore.

Any new release smart phone price will drop by about 30% after the first year.

Pixel 3, released last year @ $1200, jb now only has white in stock @ $849

If you look at the pixel 4 right now, the cheapest one would cost $1049 + a $150 gift card

    • To put it another way - if I buy now for whatever price from JB, Mobileciti, HN, etc. which one of those stores is likely to have the best sale and provide the lowest price within the 24 month timeframe. I'm after opinions on which Aussie stores have great sales, whether it's JB with a decent catalogue sale, or Mobileciti with a 24 hour sale that some kind soul posts on OzB for us all. The sale could be in a month, 12 months or 18 months (or several times during the course of 24 months, as I can claim the difference back multiple times).

Anything with a gift card/bonus item is a no-go, as the receipted item needs to be identical. If I were to buy the Pixel 4 with eg. free earbuds, then I could only claim on future deals of the Pixel 4 with free earbuds, and not any deal on the Pixel 4.

      Thanks :)

  • Honestly refurbished is pretty good if you slap a good cover or case on it.

I got a excellent condition Samsung galaxy s7 refurbished for a friend for something like $170 AUD from ebay but Kogan do some good ones and you could probably find a Kogan voucher on the classifieds somewhere.

      Samsung galaxy s7 refurbished

A 3 year old handset is at the end of the product life cycle. It doesn’t make sense to buy a refurbished that is this old unless one is tight on money.

    • Not interested in refurbished or something that old. I'm also quite sure that my price protection only covers brand new items.

      Thanks anyway :)
