  • Valid for use in the United States only.

Use of this Digital Card requires a Nintendo 3DS or Wii U system, broadband Internet access, acceptance of a User Agreement, and may require a Nintendo Network ID. Please review the User Agreement at support.nintendo.com before purchasing.

When you enter the Digital Card's activation code on your Nintendo 3DS or Wii U system, the entire balance will be associated with your Nintendo eShop account and will be non-transferable

I guess you'll need a VPN to use them?

    • No, just an account linked to the US, which is very easy to do via Nintendo Account's profile management in any web browser

      • Oh ok, thanks.

Looks like a good deal to me then …

        • Just an FYI, you can't switch afterwards. So if you make a US account for this, you can't top it up with $AUD later. Prices will also be American so pick a state with no sales tax like Alaska or Oregon.

          • @CEO Rachel Jake: I thought you could switch, just have to hand a 0.00 balance

          • @CEO Rachel Jake: Yeah, I suspected that there's a catch somewhere.

But, if you can keep buying games from the US, they're usually cheaper than the same games in Australia.

I wonder if you set the console to US region, and buy digital versions of US games, which games on disc do you buy - US or Australian region?

Since not only they may be region blocked, but Australia and the US use two different and completely incompatible TV standards - Australia uses PAL, while the US uses NTSC (things like resolutions and frame rates are different).

So, if you set your console to the US region, and you put a US region game on disc in the console, it won't display on a PAL TV.

Conversely, if you put an Australian region game on disc, in a console set to the US region (as in the previous example), will the console correctly play PAL encoded games on a console set to the US (NTSC) region?

            • @BooYa: Apparently I was wrong, you can change regions as long as your balance is $0.00. As for which region's version of game you'd get, i'm not sure.

              • @CEO Rachel Jake: No worries mate, it's good to know Nintendo doesn't seem to treat their own customers as their enemies.

            • @BooYa: I know that the cartridges are not region locked; I have bought games for cheaper in the UK and used them on the Switch I purchased in Australia with no issues. I don't see why the Nintendo online store should be any different. My only question is, if you have games that you purchased in Australia on the online store, do you lose access to them when you switch regions? This gift card is nearly $20AUD off the regular price - that's a steal, especially when you factor in that games are often cheaper in the American store.
