    Myver's contender

A MacGyver contender? Maybe that moustached guy from Curiosity Show, but that's a big maybe.

  • Is this the best peanut butter in the market?

    • Skippy crunchy is the best

    • +2

      It's very thin and watery.

This one is 100% Australian. Wins my vote.

I've got this at home… its a tough thing to eat though as even though its very oily, it tastes SO dry. And just sticks to the roof of your mouth.

At $2.50 it's just OK. It's no Mayvers.

  • +2

    No dark roasted PB?

  • out of the loop here, what's the hype about Mayvers?

    • +2

It's the best PB around, and is on special for $2.50 at times.

    • We rarely buy it. It’s gone in a day.

Pics > Mayvers > everything else

Mayvers > Pics > everything else. There I fixed it.

It's just grinded peanuts with nothing added - how large of a difference can it be except where the peanuts are sourced from?

grinder type, rotation, friction, heat, coarseness, oxidation, UV exposure, packaging, other parallel universes' dynamics we can't quite understand yet, etc.

    • Pics all the way

This is ok in a pinch but for eating out of the jar it’s pretty average. It does come in a real glass jar though which you could potentially use as a money box or miniature vase for homegrown herbs.

  • I’m a huge PB fan and this is my least favourite. Won’t be buying even at this price. Purely Nutz is also on special next week (at Coles), I’ll grab some of that to tide me over until the next Pics special.

    • which PB is your favorite? May need to pick up a jar

    • :O they have a spicy peanut butter

Good deal, but not a fan of this one. Tried it once, but it was just oily liquid. Call me old fashioned but I like to be able to spread my spreads, not pour them off of the jar.

Yeah, nothing wrong with the old school processed emulsifiers and stabilisers.

Mayvers add salt, this doesn’t. Therefore this is a better. Natural peanut butter ingredient list should only have peanuts on it!

      Read the ingredients carefully, friend

Bega are sneaky with their smaller jar at 325g instead of 375g..

  • I am curious why there was constant feedback of it being very oily; if it's just nuts, then it should have a similar texture to other brands I would have thought.

The nutritional information is interesting (all per 100g):
Mayvers: 24.4g fat (monounsaturated), 7.9g fibre
Peanuts: 24.4g fat (monounsaturated), 8.5g fibre (source: first google result for "peanut nutritional information")
Bega: 38.6g fat (monounsaturated), unlisted fibre

I'm not sure why the monounsaturated fat would be so much higher in the Bega version, and why they'd omit listing dietary fibre. Any chemists/dietitions have their 2c?

honestly this stuff is so plain I accidentally bought some and I have been using it. I crack some salt over it to give it more flavour but imo the normal bega stuff tastes better

it's the power of the trans fats.
      They are pretty addictive too.

  • Good for eating out of the jar, I've bought this a few times. I'm gonna stick to the normal 750g Beqa containers from now on though.
