Greetings everyone, JB has a great deal on the 4K copies of these documentaries :)

Planet Earth II

Planet Earth II is an immersive exploration of the jungles, mountains, deserts, islands, grasslands and cities of the world. Journey to the four corners of the globe to discover the extreme forces that shape life in each of these iconic landscapes and experience the world from the viewpoint of animals themselves. From spellbinding wildlife spectacle to intimate encounters, Planet Earth II takes you closer than ever before.

Blue Planet II

In recent years, our knowledge of what goes on in our Ocean has been transformed. Blue Planet II uses cutting-edge breakthroughs in science and technology to explore new worlds, reveals astonishing creatures and extraordinary new animal behaviours.

Since Blue Planet aired in 2001, our understanding of life beneath the waves has completely changed. Travelling from the icy polar seas to the vibrant blues of the coral atolls, Blue Planet II shares these astonishing new discoveries. Meet the strange octopuses lurking in the depths of the Antarctic ocean. Watch giant trevally fish leap to catch birds in mid-air. And ride on the back of a hammerhead shark as it attacks. Inspiring awe and wonder, this series reveals surprising new places, charismatic new characters and extraordinary new behaviours.

  • Thanks OP, got 3. Had to pay $5 shipping as the closest store with stock is a little drive away. Cheers 😃

    • Why'd you buy 3?

      • I bought 3 as well, 3 different titles.
        - Dynasties
        - Blue Planet II
        - Planet Earth II

        • Oh right cool, enjoy them!

        • Did Dynasties be free? It didnt show up in the buy 2 get 1 free section.

      • To get the third one for free :)

  • +1

    Great Prices.

As mentioned these are part of the Buy 2 Get one Free so you can get another selection for free if you purchase both of them. In fact there are some good prices as part of this sale IMO.

  • +1

I tried googling but if someone can clarify my question that would be awesome.
    Is 4k UHD in 60fps?

    • +1

There are titles that are, but it's not common.

    • +2

just remember movies/films/documentaries are not games and hence not being at 60Hz/fps isn't such a big deal.

      • -1

They’re 24 frames usually. Nice to have a TV that supports that so you don’t get jerky panning shots.

      • Dunno about that, 60 fps makes videos pretty amazing. So far I've only been able to watch them on youtube, but would imagine that something like blue planet on 60 fps would be awesome.

  • Stupid question, but how do you play these?
Do you need a UHD Player or does a blueray player work?

    • +3

Definitely need a UHD player of some sort. An Xbox One S or X will do the job, or a dedicated UHD player.

      • +1

Cheers. Was thinking of using my PS4 but I'm guessing it definitely won't.

  • In both titles there are some not so great looking scenes, like grainy underwater shots in low light and some low res distance shots with drones etc but for the most part these are two of the most stunning examples of 4K and HDR live action you can get.

  • +1

Amazon has it for $17 if you have prime. Cheaper and faster delivery for me but it depends on whether you can collect from JB or not.

  • Getting an error when processing payment

"Ranking order options for speed and price" goes in circles…..

  • Thanks op. Blue planet II was on order so waiting but scored a free uhd sherlo k holmes!

  • Would anyone happen to know if Dynasties 4k is worth buying? I have an 4k HDR tv and keen to watch it with my 4 year old but it says there's graphic content which might be unsuitable.

    • +1

Worth buying from a 4k Quality perspective or worth buying from a graphic content perspective? I can't comment on the 4k, but the graphic content isn't that bad. I certainly wouldn't be comfortable showing it to my four year old, but it's up to you to be the judge. It's not much worse than any other BBC production but if they're going to be upset by an animal dying, getting killed or watching monkeys (profanity) each other up in a brawl to see who the alpha is then maybe hold off a couple of years.

Of course, it may still be worth buying the disc and just waiting until they are ready.

      • Thanks, i might hold off based on the graphic content then. Part of me also thinks this might dip to $9-12 one day.

  • I need a sale on 4K Blue Ray players. Last time I checked, they were about $400 normally. If there were still video rental stores, I'm sure they would be renting out 4K discs, but I have trouble justifying the $400 price just for the occasional Amazon sale disc.

    • The sony x700 seems to have semi-regular sales to the mid $200s. I have managed to amass a ludicrous amount of "cheap" 4k blurays, the price of which were not much more than renting.

    • Sony X700 has in the past been found on the Sony ebay store refurbished for around $150 when they're part of the regular 20% off sales. I have one, it has performed well. There's none listed at the moment. If you're interested you just have to keep checking, they appear at random times.
