Is 1920x1080 Too Small for a 27 Inch Monitor?

Hi All
Looking for an external monitor for my MacBook, and considering a 27inch. Only concern is that most have a native 1920x1080 resolution. Is this resolution too low for the size of monitor?
I am only doing work related stuff and a bit of video in a side window, no gaming or anything else video intensive.
Would I be better sticking with a good 24inch monitor?

Thanks

  • depends on viewing range

    • Just using on a normal office desk, so not sitting that far away.

  • Yes - IMHO even QHD (1440) is too low for that size but would be a minimum starting point

Thanks for that. Looks like back to a good 24 inch might be the best

try it yourself at JB or Harvey Norman or Officeworks

his comment "1440p too low for 27" , certainly not a norm
must be a joke, as PPI is higher than your 24" 1080p

Paired with a MacBook you will notice the difference

I do use mine for photography editing so UHD is a must for me

    • i have 1440p 27'' and 4k 28''

1440p is just about right font size. theres no good scaling for 4k yet in many programs. do not go 4k unless atleast 32''

    I've got a 27" 1080p monitor.

When I first turned it on I thought the resolution was too low and regretted the purchase.

I eventually got used to it and it doesn't bother me in the slightest now.

    • Same, it's fine :)

    • +1 for me as well, it is fine and have had no issues at all.

    • Same, I find it fine.

I ran a 27" 1080p for years, never thought it was bad at all. I certainly couldn't see individual pixels.

  • It's not too small but it's not ideal. For your basic usage you could probably get away with 1080p.

Yes. You need 1440p, I would never accept anything less. Even with my 27" 1440p monitor I feel severely restricted (I used to have multiple monitors).

  • Thanks for all the replies

  • At work I use 2 x 24" 1440p Monitors.
    At home, I use 2 x 27" 1080p Monitors.

I find the higher resolution very helpful for productivity, but ultimately that's it. I love my 1080p monitors at home, as higher refresh rates or colour workspaces are the option if you don't opt for resolution jumps.

  • at 27in 1440 p is great
    i went up from 24 - 1080 to 27 1440 p
if you have a computer that can run 1440p with high fps then get 27inch monitor
if you have a computer that is built for 1080p and thats all you are happy with stick to 24inch as the difference is not that big

    i would rather 144hz 1080 p then srtuggle at 1440 p
