AMAZFIT GTR 47mm Smart Watch or Other Heart Rate Monitor Device

Hey,

I need to be able to continuously keep track of my heart rate. The Mi Band or some other fitness band would be ideal but the design doesn't work for me so it'll need to be a watch. At the moment Im thinking of getting the AMAZFIT GTR 47mm which is $148.09 USD at GearBest landed.

Could comment on if this is a good buy or if I should be looking at other models? The app is really important and it'd be ideal if I could set alarms if the heart rate goes above / below certain amounts but this isn't critical. Also it'd be nice if it synced alarms and DND mode with my Android phone.

Thanks!

  • Amazfit GTR seems to be quite a nice watch with long battery life. However from the review I've read, its GPS sucks. You might end up being disappointed if you intend to use it to track mileage of outdoor activities.

    • Im not too fussed about the GPS. I found another option which is the Ticwatch C2 which runs Wear OS and has NFC so I think it might be a better choice: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32972634048.html

      • WearOS = crap battery life.

You ended up having to charge it once every 1 or 2 days, which means you might not be able to use sleep tracking / measuring rest heart rate as it needs to drink up electricity on the cradle…

If you don't care about GPS then Amazfit GTR / GTS would be good fit. They look good as a smart watch and have battery life measured in weeks. They do have heart rate alert during activity.

  • Amazfit Bip can be had for under $80, will happily monitor heartrate 24/7, and the battery will last a month. GPS seems to be fine too. Most people confuse it with an apple watch.

    • The Amazfit bip would be the sensible choice but I can't get away from the look of the GTR.

      • Twice the price for round rather than square seems a high price - and the AMOLED display isn't as battery friendly as the reflective of the BIP.

And as for design, as I say, people tend to confuse it with the apple watch, so you don't lose too many style points.

        • Yes I am leaning back towards the bip. If I can find it for the right price. The best I can find is $87 AUD on the 11th at Aliexpress. Where did you get it for under 80? Thanks!

  • I got my Amazfit GTR 42mm recently and I'm pretty happy so far. I was really fussy because I wanted a successor to my beloved Pebble Time Round (rest in peace, my friend).

It looks like a nice smartwatch, but it doesn't run apps so it's really just a fancy fitness tracker. But it's a lot thinner and lighter than smartwatches, and the battery life is much better. The built-in functionality is pretty decent – you can get notifications from your phone for instance. When I turn on all the features (constant heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, always-on display, etc.) I can go for a few days between charges. It works great with Sleep as Android for sleep tracking, and there are other third-party phone apps that help to extend its functionality. A pretty decent package for $220 from Amazon AU.
