Is The IdeaPad L340 a Decent Gaming Laptop?

What do people think in terms of how this stacks (bang for buck) on pricing & specs relative to other recent deals ?

I bought the L340 and I have done a 3DMark benchmark test. I will see if I can locate it and post it up. For new AAA titles, its not the best but if you are playing games that are a few years old, its not too bad.

Battery life is pretty shit and I have no idea how they say 9 hours in their specs. I get 90 mins tops. The charger itself is also a brick. But bang for buck, I don't think its all that bad if you can get it for under $1k

    • Strange how the charger is a brick for a 45W battery

I assume not, but the ram isn't soldered on right?

      • I haven't opened it up. There was a thread on this Whirlpool. There might be info about the ram there.

      • Do a google image search. Its a 45w Slim tip charger. But apparently it fast charges or something so maybe that's why its a brick.

      • The charger is a brick because the components draw a lot of power. The size of the battery is irrelevant when choosing the power supply.
If a smaller charger is used, the laptop will become underpowered and start throttling.

    • Manufacturer battery test is often done at maximum power saving mode with screen brightness levels unrealistically low, with the laptop on idle (not doing anything).

Have seen this unit go on sale for $1079 last month. The current price of $1,199.20 (with quoted RRP of $1,499) is actually the 'normal price',

Lenovo laptops are almost perpetually on sale so you sort of need to track the prices over a period of time to identify the real sales.

      • Isnt there a big cashback on Lenovo right now?

      • Thanks - yes bit of a headache to keep tracking of pricing
