          • @1st-Amendment: So with that logic a BMW M5 is s*hit then?

            • @fastnet: The logic is that 'performance' is measured by getting from point a to b as quickly as possible. In car ads, and on race tracks, an M5 looks pretty good. In city traffic (ie 95% of the trips you will make) it can't compete with a Vespa which costs 1/100th as much.
That doesn't seem like great value if performance is your goal.

        • I don't know what I said that struck a cord.

I have been in the 3 although I didn't drive it. I liked it and in no way meant that a premium spec Camry as an insult. I genuinely liked that too. I even commented on house nice the Prius iTech (or whatever techy name, I just can't remember) was when my wife had one.

I just don't see the cool high tech look as luxurious. You can have good fit and finish without it being luxurious. The opposite is true (pretty much any prestige GM cars).

    • But Tesla is not a high yield investment car in westpac's book.

Gift for my niece sorted out. Thanks.

    • +15

      Nice stocking stuffer.

    • +7

      Uncle I miss you!

  • +11

Rather buy a Tesla at that price.

  • +5

    Any cashback?

  • +1

Thanks OP, already bought 6 :)

  • +7

    …first impressions count

I'm not trying to impress anyone.

    • +4

Best comment in that thread 😂😂

  • +2

waiting for it to be oos to post the oos comment

  • Seems like a pretty good price… if you were actually in the market for that type of car… but damn.. how much is a normal BMW markup?

    • I can’t see anywhere in the description that it says what year that is… it could be new 2016 models, for example.

  • Thanks OP! Just in time for christmas

  • +5

Buy a Tesla for those money. Almost $0 maintenance cost, almost $0 recharging costs and they don't expect you to bring your own Vaseline and bend-over when you go for service or have to buy parts :)
Also Tesla 3 beat BMW in the Golden Wheel award in Germany!!!!

    • +3

Have you owned one for more then 3 years?

    • +7

Do people paying 80k for a new car that will depreciate heavily the moment they drive it away really care about running costs?

    • +6

Largely irrelevant concerns. More importantly which one will help me score a trophy girlfriend.

      • +6

        Used wrx or evo 😂

        • +8

Bonus points if it's an STi

          • +5

@JamesRodriguez87: For many years I have wondered how the idea to badge something "STi" ever got past the marketing people.

            • +4

@AngusD: I can imagine trying to impress a girl all night and before you close the deal, say "I have STi". ROFL.

        • +4

I should have been clearer. Trophy girlfriends from the eastern suburbs of Sydney not Penrith.

      • According to Tiga - Bugatti

    • +1

Almost $0 maintenance cost? how do you figure?

Tesla themselves recommend a service once a year which costs anywhere between $500 to $1000AUD. Other parts such as tires and brakes need to be maintained like any other car.

Tesla is no miracle car, it's a step in the right direction but by no means a complete replacement of combustion engines. This is not mentioning the fact that the company itself isn't doing to well and that hydrogen cars might phase out electric cars in the not to distant future.

      • No, that’s the old service recommendation. Now Teslas just tell you when they need service and call a mobile ranger out to themselves for most service items. You definitely don’t need to service them once a year. They do chew through the tyres much more quickly than a regular road car, but they certainly don’t use brakes up (you’ll usually never replace any brake components in the life of the car because they barley use the brakes).

      • +1

They recommend some maintenance such as brake fluid check, cabin air filters replacement etc but even if you do not take it for service, the vehicle warranty is not void.
        https://www.tesla.com/en_AU/support/vehicle-warranty

So you are saying, in the not too distant future, hydrogen stations will be as common place as petrol stations and every manufacturer will be selling hydrogen fueled cars which will phase out Tesla. As for Tesla not doing well, the company is selling almost 100k cars every quarter and that is with limited production and it outselling the german trio almost combined in the USA and is already the top selling automobile (not the top selling electric car, but generic automobile) in Norway and Netherlands. Tesla's China factory will be operational soon which will increase the numbers even further along with the much awaited pick up truck which will be announced this month and the Model Y which will be out in next year.
        https://cleantechnica.com/2019/10/06/tesla-model-3-sales-2x-…

Tesla may not be an eventual replacement of the combustion engine but Model 3 will suffice for most private car buying public, except people with very specific needs, as of today.

        • +4

"Model 3 will suffice for most private car buying public"

A second hand Yaris will suffice for most use cases and will cost you ten times less.

    • +2

Um electricity costs money when you recharge….

You still need to maintain a tesla……

You can get a BMW serviced anywhere.

You can only get a Tesla serviced at Tesla.

Your Tesla will be worth nothing in 5 years when the battery is at 50%…..

      IMO

      • +2

Sweet I’m gonna go get me a 2014 Model S for free.

      • The discussion was about not needing to maintain many aspects of a Tesla, given there's no need, such as replacing the engine oil. BMW does have more places for servicing, but for me, after my BMW engine died just outside warranty, that was one of the reasons I changed to Tesla.

Regarding the battery, they do cover the battery up to 70% within 8 years. https://www.tesla.com/en_AU/support/vehicle-warranty, but I'm sure when the battery is lower, it would be very expensive to replace.

  • +23

Thanks OP, but to maximise the yield the investment must be greater than $80k.

I will be the laughing stock of the Westpac corporate carpark if I rock up in something I only paid $79.9k for.

    • +11

Buy it with a full tank of 98+ problem solved.

    • Just pay for Apple Carplay. That'll get you over the mark!

  • whats the resale value of one of these in 5 years?

    • +7

      You don't want to know….

No one wants to own these cars outside warranty. Maintenance is too severe and things breaking.

    • +2

maybe just enough to buy a 2nd hand toyota…

Either way, enough to decide to never buy euro again.

    • +4

In 5 years? They’ve already slashed $45k off the price and it’s not even 5 minutes old.

  • +12

    if i don't buy this i'l be wasting $45k…

  • Damn missed it - OZB'ed out :(

  • +2

Hey OP how’d you convince chewbacca to take the photo for you ?

    • +4

Easy. The force is with me, I'm one with the force.

    • Hahaha nice

  • +1

    Mistress. Christmas. Sorted!

  • New model arrives soon

to me buying a Wagon is like buying a camry, its confirmation that a man's life is over and your nuts and your life will never be the same again….. not in a good way

    plus I can't afford it

    • +8

What's wrong with a wagon? Not too bad when you consider they have the space for Ikea runs, and if it doesn't fit inside, you can always put it on the roof (with racks) without having to be as tall as Yao Ming, Shaq or Michael Jordan.

      • +1

dont get me wrong, they are very practical,

they just look like a hearse to me, especially the merc ones

        which I also cant afford

        • That's how I feel about them too.

    • agree

    • +4

Japan used to make some awesome wagons with decent engines, like the Legnum and Stagea. I have a leggy myself and love it - it's the reverse mullet of cars, business in the back and party up the front.

      • I think the only Japanese company that makes a wagon in Mazda. Mitsubishi, Nissan and Toyota has joined the SUV bandwagon.

    • +2

      Wagons look awesome…especially fast ones…. Audi…HSV…

      • +3

Sports wagons do look good i must admit

        • +1

I rock a VF Sportswagon for the wife…thing looks good standing still! Go the Wags!

  • +8

An M badge on a 2 litre, 185kw, 6.5 to 100km/h car is not right.

    • +56

Its the deprecation that knocks you back into the seat ;)

      • lol

      • Cheeky, aren't you?

        But I like it. :)

Better come with M seats too.

  • +3

Anyone think they'll price match this in WA? (actually serious)

    • If not, then order interstate. Shopping is only $1-2k.

    • Maybe try the dealer in Wangara… They are usually more keen to do a deal than Auto Classic because they are in the middle of no-where.

      • +2

Both are owned by Auto Classic, but I have found the guys at Wangara a bit more friendly.

  • Hopefully they dont cancel orders because this deal wasn't authorised to be posted on Ozbargain

  • Kris Kringle sorted! Thanks!

  • +2
    • Nope, brand new vehicle. Advertised in showroom only.

    • Looks definitely like a demo with 3500km on the clock.

Check the Stock number (BB242793) in the top left hand corner of the OP's image and compare it with the last 7 digits of the VIN on the online ad. The car also fits the description in the ad pretty well I would say.

    • +1

Does look like it's these two - both at 3502 km. One M-Sport, one with panoramic roof. Would seem odd they also are selling new ones for the same price, but OP seems insistent they are in store.

      https://www.motorlinebmw.com.au/preowned/listing/5-Series/53…

  • Thanks OP ordered

  • in here just for the comments/lulz

  • Does anyone know if it's cheaper for cash?

    • +2

Don't think you can pay cash according to this

"In the 2018-19 Budget, the Government announced it would introduce an economy-wide cash payment limit of $10,000 for payments made or accepted by businesses for goods and services. Transactions equal to, or in excess of this amount would need to be made using the electronic payment system or by cheque. The Black Economy Taskforce recommended this action to tackle tax evasion and other criminal activities."

      • +6

They probably accept iTunes gift cards…

        • Not bad. Stock up during 10-20% discount at the supermarket.

      • You just need to make multiple payments of $9,999 over multiple days until balance is cleared… mpney laundering 101

      • +1

This policy has not been implemented yet.

  • +1

    Any Cashrewards or Shopback?

  • Cool, costs more than a Tesla, its also way slower, depreciated more, cost more to run, less warrenty, less reliable and obsolete.

    where do I sign?

    • +1

      Baaaaaaa

      (sheep sound)

      • +1

        Irony

Driven both Model S and recent BMWs. BMW are just really dated. Might as well jusy buy a old car and save your money.

        • +2

Where do you charge a tesla if you rent an apartment?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: If you rent an apartment you shouldn't be buying any near $100K car that rots on the street

            • +2

@Bid Sniper: You haven't been to Neutral bay, Sydney?

              • +1

@mousie: Yep used to daily through there, they rent (lease) their cars and own their properties. Not the other way around, smarter way to burn their kids inheritance.

If a person rent their place and rents (leases) their car for the value of a deposit on a property then I hope they made better dog food by the time they retire.

        • Tesla just looks too cheap……

          • +1

@cooldog: Compared to what? A pov pack BMW with "M" written all over it like a happy meal?

  • +1

    Calling all high-yield investment enthusiasts

    LMAO.

Just remember kids, plumbers retire wealthier than lawyers because they aren't having the massive losses that appearing to be wealthy causes.

    • +2

Ford Ranger Raptor with no accessories - $75990

Utes aren't cheap these days and even plumbers like to impress

      • The Plumber live in the front of our street own 1 range rover, 1 Q7, 1 X5, 1 A4 and 1 hiAce Van with full of plumbing stuff…….
and it is a family of 4 living in that 5 bedrooms renting house……

      • +3

The Ford Ranger Raptor is a well known FBT rort. Most in their lifetime will never carry a tool except for the tradie in the drivers seat.
