As per the Q&A, this is a US version (therefore grey import)
    https://www.amazon.com.au/ask/questions/Tx3N7SQRCTG1EOB/ref=…

Q: Is this the us version?
A: Yes. Its suppose to come with au adapter but it doesnt so you just to purchase a us to au power adapter aswell. Or just somehow to message the company saying dont forget the adapter with it

that's for the item from Amazon US. They share the same page. The US version is selling at $272.52+delivery

The one I listed is "Ships from and sold by Amazon AU."

If you are paying this much for a router, wouldn't you want to future proof and get a 802.11ax/wifi 6 router instead?

  • I was eyeing this earlier this morning until I realised the comment about it being a US version. Not worth the risk, I’d buy it from HN as much as I don’t want to. Not sure when their sale ends, I’m on the fence whether I should pick one up. Upgrading from 68u.

    • It's AU stock. See my comment above.

Even if Amazon sent you US stock you can always ask for a refund. You should be able to see the tracking info where the item is shipped from.

  • Can I use it to connect to NBN?

    • You'll have to plug your NBN modem into it.

      • You mean the one from NBN Co? So essentially replacing the router from my ISP with this one?

    • It depends on the NBN technology (FTTP, FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, HFC, wireless, satellite).
In some cases (eg. FTTN, FTTB) you will also require a VDSL modem.

  • Great router. Bought this from HN a while ago and it's been flawless.

    • How is the wifi range? I heard that the level of wifi range on ac86u is lower than netgear r7000

Purchased this last Saturday at HN for $344 used their Price Guarantee and was refunded $72 today! During this process they refund the original sale and process it again which means I qualify for the cashback too!

  • To anyone who buys a RT-AC86U from Amazon AU … could you please confirm whether you get AU stock.

Quickest way to determine if AU stock is to check if it includes an AU power adapter inside the sealed Asus box (not as a separate add-on).

An alternative way to confirm if AU stock is to provide the Serial Number to the Asus rep on WP:

    Thanks.

  • Mine just arrived. This is an AU stock from Asus Australia (as printed on the box) and comes with an adapter with 3 types of socket, AU/UK 3 pins/ EU 2 pins.

As long as you're buying anything "Ships from and sold by Amazon AU." it should be from local stock!

    • Do you get the 20$ cashback as well?

      • I just submitted the cashback request, not sure if it will be approved as Amazon is not listed on the list
