Sometimes, rarely, free stuff isn't even worth it. You don't need this if you have Windows Defender/Microsoft Security Essentials built in, updated and live protection enabled.

I'd rather get kicked in the nuts than install this shit on my computer.

I came here for the Westpac comments

Ahh cmon.. it's not like they're helping child porn peddlers or anything. Oh wait…

    • +1

True. Surely they’re worse then youfoodz.

  • +5

Sounds like you want to either slow down your computer or you want missing files from time to time, comes with bonus crashes when they stuff up.

  • +11

Yes I click to install malware deliberately.

    • Not liking the product shouldn't be a reason to neg the deal

      • +1

        Major issues with retailer

        Yes it is.

      • It is when taking up the deal is outright making your life worse.

Technically its a 'deal' if i offer to punch anyone in the face for free instead of charging 20 bucks, but no one should take that deal because the product is bad.

Just when you think the big banks haven't screwed customers enough already… now they're offering McAfee. Do yourself a favour and steer clear of this useless bloatware crap… I'm forced to use it thanks to work, where most users cannot stand it (if your computer's running slow, it's typically because of McAfee).

By the way the Westpac logo gives me religous-cult vibes.

    Wait people want McAfee? Still?

    • +9

McAfee saved my arse in 1991 when I got the Stoned virus on a pirated 5.25" floppy of Leisure Suit Larry. But in 2019… irrelevant.

      • Yep haha!

      • Upvote because Leisure Suit Larry

Westpac.. the only bank on earth that mandates the use of insecure 6 character passwords and will not allow anything longer. Yeah, great cyber security credentials this lot…

Let’s install malware to control malware!

typical banks, make billions of dollars, screw customers, and then want to fk you also up with malware.

    McAfee? no thanks

        30 days 30 deals?

  • Sophos Home is free forever, and IMO much better.

  • Webroot is pretty good. Click through the NAB link.

    • Webroot is terrible at detecting new malware. Just about any big name antivirus, including McAfee, is a much better option.

Only if he eats his dick 😉

    • I scanned for this comment. I’m not disappointed.

you don't need this. you should just be using windows defender which is free.

    • Many people, including myself, find that Windows Defender noticably slows down their computers at times. I prefer to use something lighter than doesn't impact performance. There are a number of third party antiviruses, including McAfee that are much lighter than Windows Defender.

  • Anyone whos looking for a free antivirus "above" MSE,

Look into Bitdefender Free, avira, and avast.

    In that order.

  • Most people: New computer, install extra anti virus that's unnecessary and slows it down.

Me: New computer/installation, group policy editor, disable Windows Defender permanently.

Despite the negative comments, McAfee is a very good antivirus these days. Also, these days it is very light, so should not noticably slow down your computer. It's worth nothing that many people, including myself, find that Windows Defender noticably slows down their computers at times, which is an excellent reason to replace it with something lighter.

You can get a 5 year, 1 PC McAfee license for less than $5 on eBay.

  • Installing virus to get rid of virus noice call

    • McAfee is actually one of the best antiviruses there is. There are better alternatives, but it doesn't come too far behind.

Also, these days it's one of the lightest antiviruses there is, so more than likely it won't noticeably slow down your computer. It unfair to compare McAfee today, with the McAfee of years ago.

  • 12 people against installing McAfee, only 1 for installing. That says it all.

    • No it doesn't. I think more than anything it means that there are plenty of people who haven't used it for many years and are basing their opinion on really old versions. There are definitely better antiviruses than McAfee, but it is very good nonetheless.
