Money Exchange / Withdrawal in Japan

Hey guys I’m currently in Japan and in need of some cash. I only found out now that CITI bank does not have ATM’s in Japan. I have both CBA and CITI cards. Does anyone know how much fees at I’ll be paying at local ATM’s such as 7eleven’s? Is there any other way to do it better than this? Much appreciated.

This is what I found recently when I went to Japan. The ATMs were all located in convenience stores. Probably best to use your Citi card as I believe they have no overseas ATM fees?

Just went through my transaction history to give a better idea on fees.

    Lawson Bank:
Under ¥10,000 had ¥108 fee, over ¥10,000 had ¥216 fee. In Nara and Hiroshima the ¥108 fee was actually ¥110, so it seems to vary by a few yen where you are.

    Seven Bank:
    Under ¥10,000 had a ¥108 fee.

    Japan Post Bank (Family Mart):
    Under ¥10,000 had a ¥216 fee.

ING gave me a $1.51 and $2.50 AU rebate separately for each withdrawal.

    • This is correct. You will be best off using your CITI card to withdraw and incur the $1-3 fee that the local ATMs charge.

in the grand scheme of things… its a couple of bucks for a single withdraw.. don't let that dampen your holiday. don't sweat the small stuff

Citi bank has free withdrawals from seven eleven ATMs

    • Yep just go to 7/11 ATMs, never seen a few and they always work for international cards. I have never had luck with other ATMs.

  • Thanks everyone! Just withdraw from a 7 Bank ATM with no withdrawal fee and CITI gave me a great exchange rate.

  • Get a Citibank global currency account - best conversion rate and no fee's.

    • Bloody love Citibank overseas.
