Amazon Kindle eReader with Front Light (4GB, Black) $119.99 + Delivery @ Dick Smith By Kogan (OW Price Beat $114)

61

I share this deal not entirely for the actual product at Dick Smith (delivery brings it to ~$129), but rather for the possibility of Price Beat. To my knowledge, this would be the cheapest the new Kindle has been.

I am aware of the incoming Amazon Paperwhite deal, but if the improvements are not worth the extra $16 (more storage, waterproof, flush front), then this might interest you.

Details:

  • Adjustable front light lets you read comfortably for hours
  • 167ppi glare-free display reads like real paper, even in direct sunlight
  • Highlight passages, look up definitions, translate words and adjust text size
  • Holds thousands of titles so you can take your library with you
  • Single battery charge lasts for weeks

Edit: Shipping might be included for Officeworks PBG, as mentioned in the PBG guidelines, but I was not charged that amount. Here's my receipt for reference:

I bought a kindle (just the basic no-light version) for two people in my family who always said they prefer real books. Once they tried the kindle they were hooked. It's a great present for people who like to read. I figured they read with the light on anyway, just get the kindle without a light so the battery lasts longer.

There are way to get books on there for free too.

So many people are like "nah I like holding a real book!" But they are so wrong. Once you try the ereader you can't go back.

My favourite feature other than the convenient weight/shape/ease of holding is the light so for an extra $16 it's worth it imo. Battery lasts at least a few books anyway.

Officeworks price beat is unobtainable gray import different version of device being that it is an international version rather than Australian version so is not the same product Officeworks does not have to price match. Zygon is also misrepresenting the terms of Officeworks price beat if there is delivery charge this is included in the price that is matched so the price of $114 is unobtainable.

I'm sorry, but I just pricematched and picked up my product. I waited until I bought my product before I posted. I don't know what to tell you

      • It means that an employee made a mistake so it not a real deal and should not be posted to Ozbargin considering it is most likely going to be rejected for other Ozbgainers at other stores especially considering they also made the mistake of not including the delivery fee of around about 10$ to price they were price matching.

You should just consider yourself lucky that you got Officeworks to give you a discretionary discount for the product through a roundabout means of getting them to make a mistake on price matching.

I think you should get your facts right before making bold statements.

See here and this was posted by an OW employee about the recent policy change to honour price matching with parallel/grey imports.

@websterp: Regardless of what that was posted a year ago, OW only pricematch the same identical product. Hence that's deal is marked as expired. AFAIK, they do not counter for identical warranties anymore but still vouch for identical product for pricematch. But again their pricematch thingy is always a pure luck and depends upon team/manager.

@websterp: I think is you that needs to get your facts right that post on the update to Officeworks price matching only remove identical warranty it still needs to be an identical product and most gray imports are different products ie if you compared the product number on both products they would be different ie Australia product generally have letters at end of model number saying AU or A indicating AU stock.

The policy change allows gray imports if they are in fact the same product because there are some manufactures who do not have different models of their products for different countries an example I believe is Seagate and for Amazon I believe they generally have different models for their goods for different countries.

Also the policy change made it so you can price match with slightly dodgy online retailers who misrepresent their warranty and return policies because is not appropriate for Officeworks to tell customers what their consumer rights are which may or may not overrule another business's terrible warranty and return policy.

My point regarding the mistake of not adding delivery to price match still stands which indicates a mistake was made which generally indicates that who ever was doing the price match was not paying attention so it means that they probably did not check correctly if it is an identical product they are price matching.

I was under the same impression, but I got the price confirmed by 2 employees (one over the phone, one in person confirming with the manager). I didn't want to mislead anyone, just sharing my experience. Here's the receipt:

That being said, I will put your disclaimer in the post for other users to be aware.
