Samsung Galaxy S II Now Free on The $59 Dollar Plan @ Optus. $5 Home Zone OPTUS (Free Calls)

40

price drop on the S2, homezone pretty much = $5 for unlimited national calls (VOIP) for your mobile from home (excluding pivotel (sat network))
was also looking at the homezone which i dont think has been discussed enough. thought it was a bit dodge at first, but on further investigation, the details are quite good.

5 bux for 24 months until end of august(?) its basically voip for your mobile(plug it into your net router), except after paying the 5 bux monthly its free calls to australian phones mobile included. (except pivotel) when you call from home.

continues to be free even if you leave home and it changes towers.

dont know any other VOIP that gives you unlimited mobiles for 5 bux a month… (unfortunatly have to be on atleast 59 dollar plan) only 1 phone, but services upto 11 phones for better service in blackspot areas.

    • Thanks should have put it in my origional link.
though i dont like how they market it as being 5 bar service for your 3g modem… its just using your 3g modem to go though your home internet, in which case they would still charge you data rates even though they are not transfering the traffic! dodgy optus… but other than that the deal is fantastic. (at the end of the day just dont add it to the list the home zone covers)

      • not sure your comments are accurate. the word "modem" does not even feature on linked page, so your comments regarding 3G modems don't necessarily hold.
having said that, the 'data' (as opposed to 'voice') side of the way these things work isn't very clear.

        • "The new Optus 3G Home Zone is simple to install, secure, gives you up to 5 bars of signal and is compatible with all Optus 3G phones and Optus 3G mobile broadband devices. "

sorry i replaced 3g mobile broadband device with 3g modem as a 3g modem is a subset of that!
agree that the data side of things isn't very clear…

would "assume" its not covered as it explicitly said voice is covered from one device.

I think that the 3g homezone is a sorry excuse to not improve their network coverage and to charge you for their poor network.

disagree. In the 'hills' district of sydney both optus and telstra suffer due to the geography. Add to this a brick building and you have lousy coverage indoors.
This makes a lot more practical and commercial sense than having networks put up a tower in every street.

ull find that its not just the hills district that optus have a coverage problem

    • just look at it as a 5 dollar All you can eat VOIP plan that you get to use your mobile on… my service is fine and im still consdering it for the VOIP aspect… 5 bux for any calls nationally.

      • when it is viewed like that ($5 unlimited voip), this home zone thing is an absolute bargain.

  • Can anyone explain to me how this device actually works? Does it route all 3g traffic through your home network like a regular voip provider, or is it more like a signal booster/repeater?

    • booster repeaters are Illegal in aust, its a VOIP router though your home network.

(same as what a mobile tower does anyway)

      • Makes sense… I thought boosters were illegal; but I was wondering if the rulings had changed. Wish work would allow us to put one of these on our network.

        • meh think it only works for 11 devices anyway.
