  • Not sure what all that Christmas for Him/Her/Kids was all about. Is there an actual Christmas gift card or are you basically just saying the listed businesses (Footlocker, H&M, Toyworld etc) are 10% off on their gift cards?

The catalogue also says 10% off pictured cards and shows Hoyts, Virgin Australia, The Iconic, GoodFoods, Red Ballon and Gourmet Restaurants. Edit: My bad. I was looking at this weeks catalogue that says 10% off pictures cards.

    • +1

Still trying to find the vendors of the 'Christmas Gift Cards' for more information, but I'm assuming it like the 'Ultimate Gift Cards' which can be used at the listed stores.

The catalogue also says 10% off pictured cards and shows Hoyts, Virgin Australia, The Iconic, GoodFoods, Red Ballon and Gourmet Restaurants.

That from the current catalogue, not the upcoming one.

  • Does anyone know how to redeem it for Booktopia?

    • Gift Cards can be used online.

      Update:

      Link

Simply swap your gift card for a digital Mastercard. Input your details below and allow up to 24 business hours for your digital Mastercard to arrive. Only available in $50 or $100 denominations. Please check your card balance and validity first before swapping your gift card. If your balance is not sufficient to cover the swap, the transaction will fail.

Appears you'll have to swap the Gift Cards for a Digital Mastercard, once you purchase it.

      • I'm so confused. Is the digital MasterCard just locked to a particular store you choose or can you use it at any on the list?

        • I think digital mastercard can be used any online store.

Mastercard Prepaid Gift Card Conditions of Use (Terms & Conditions)

Your Prepaid Mastercard (“Card”) is a Mastercard issued by EML Payment Solutions Limited (“EML”) ABN 30 131 436 532, AFSL 404131 (‘we/us/our’). In these terms and conditions, ‘you’ are the Card purchaser or user and by allowing the addition of the Card into your Pays-enabled device or by activating the Card, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. All users of the Card must be provided these conditions.

          Pays availability

*When we refer to the Pays, we are referring to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay and further, when we refer to a Device, we are referring to a mobile phone or wearable device that allows you to store a Card to the Device. Pays availability is subject to your respective Card program sponsor and device capability. Although the Card is Pays enabled, availability of the Pays is contingent upon the card program you have signed-up for. In addition, Cardholders associated with Pays enabled programs must ensure their device is Pays capable. This means your device must have the ability to store the Card and actuate a purchase.

          Using the Card and Expiration

The Card is a Mastercard prepaid card that can be used for purchasing goods and services where Mastercard prepaid cards are accepted for electronic transactions (excluding transactions at ATMs or over the counter at financial institutions).
The card will expire according to the month and year found on your tokenised card on your device
The Card is valid until the expiry date and cannot be used after expiry.
At expiry, the remaining available balance will be forfeited.

@koakun: So you're saying a discount of 10% at any online store?? Seems much too good to be true aha.

            • +1

              @pennypincher98: Yes,I read their T/C;

The Card is a Mastercard prepaid card that can be used for purchasing goods and services where Mastercard prepaid cards are accepted for electronic transactions

The only one thing to consider is digital mastercatd can not use in store so I think hard to use left over amount on line if any.
I do not know oinline shop allowed sprit payment with creditcard(digital prepaid mastercard)

              • @koakun: This is huge if it works.

long time since we've seen a 'gap in the system' opportunity like this.

10% off anywhere you pay for something online is very significant.

Hopefully someone gets one of these tomorrow and can report as soon as possible on whether this works or not.

        • Someone is going to have to try this out. Gift cards and MasterCards can definitely be locked in or out by merchants.

          • +1

@DrRalph: Will be going tomorrow night to get 4 x $50.
Hopefully someone can report back earlier in the day, so I can get 20 x $50

      • ok, im a bit confused,
which cards are we talking about? do they need to be or you have the option to converted to these digital mastercards??

        • +1

          These:

'Christmas Kids, Christmas Her, Christmas Him, Baby, Birthday, Home, Fashion for Him, Fashion for Her or Active Gift Cards'

To use them for online stores they need to be converted to a Mastercard.

          • @DrRalph: ahh ,
so as you said previously these are like the "for him/her" eftpos cards

but they can be converted to mastercard via that link

            will be interesting

Perfect timing, I need iTunes gift cards to pay a tax bill I forgot to pay!

  • Is it possible to purchase iTunes gift card with Wish egift card at self check out?

    • +2

No, you won't be allowed to Pay for Gift Card with a Gift Card.

      I've tried multiple times.

  • Surely someone has tried this and can report back?

Can the digital mastercard be used at any online store or is it somehow locked down to only the stores that have an agreement with this mob?

    Thanks

    • +1

This initially appeared to work, but has now been shut down.

      • As in they are no longer allowing them to be converted or as in the MasterCards are now being correctly locked down to the specific retailer to stop us sneaky ozbargainers from using them elsewhere?

        Thanks for the update.

        • +1

'As in they are no longer allowing them to be converted or as in the MasterCards are now being correctly locked down to the specific retailer to stop us sneaky ozbargainers from using them elsewhere?'

Both issues for me at this stage.

Do not buy if you plan to convert is my current advice.

  • After converted to digital MasterCard, can I still use it in-store?

    • Only at stores listed on the gift card

      • So it is always better to convert it as it can be used both in-store and online at those specific stores, right?

        • If possible, it is best to use them in-store.
Let say your card has $36 left.
You need to buy precisely $36 online; otherwise, you will will lose some $$.
or you could exchange your $100 gift card for a $100 store voucher (if it's allowed)

      • Can you confirm this LucyDartnell?

        • What would you like me to confirm? (never buying these cards again to save money)

          • @LucyDartnell: I thought you indicated that converted digital mastercards could be used in store?

            • @DrRalph: Converted mastercard CAN'T be used in store. Only online.

In your case, see if they exchange your card for a gift card of the same amount

              • @LucyDartnell: Can't buy an Athletes foot gift card online using the converted Mastercard.

                • @DrRalph: Dam! Looks like you need to use it at another store :(
I'm never going to go for this option again, lost more money than I saved

                  • @LucyDartnell: Another store?

As I understood it once you convert to a digital Mastercard then it was locked to that one store.

                    • @DrRalph: it is locked to stores that are listed on the card

                      • @LucyDartnell: So you can confirm that you can use the converted MasterCard at any store listed for that card. For example, I converted my Active Card to a MasterCard by following a link for The Athletes Foot, but I can use that converted MasterCard at any of the other online stores listed on the card?

              • @LucyDartnell: I can confirm that converted Mastercards CAN be used in store.

I took mine to an Athletes Foot store today and they were able to process the converted cards manually via their EFTPOS terminal.

This may be a work around for those unable to use their converted cards online.

    • I don't think this will be possible.

  • Any of the listed stores sell third party gift cards? Eg iTunes? I bought a few of these so am now stuck trying to spend at these useless stores. That was always the risk I guess.

  • Just encountered a problem when trying to use The Active Card's that I converted for online use.

I've tried to use them to make a purchase at The Athletes Foot (the store I converted them to use at). I enter the details into the credit card slot (the converted cards wont work in the gift card payment option available online) and tried to pay but of course it wasn't accepted because the total of the purchase is more than $100 and I was using a converted $100 card. I knew the total was more than $100. But I'd hoped that the system may recognise this, take the $100 and give me options as to how to pay the residual amount.

There appears no way to purchase anything for more than the face value of one of these cards. This seems to be a serious flaw with these converted cards. To use them I'd need to ensure that the entire purchase was exactly $100 or less than $100 and potentially I could get stuck with a small residual that I couldn't use such as $2 or $5 because the store sells nothing online that equals exactly this residual amount.

Anyone else encountered this at The Athletes Foot or any of the other online stores that you can convert these cards to?

Anyone know if you can use the converted cards in store and have them enter the credit card number directly into their terminal?

I've sent a message to the Card Network outlining the issue.

    • I am having the same issues; one of my cards have $8 left… The rest of my cards has been converted into e-gift cards.

The only way to bypass this issue is to buy e-gift cards from the retailer. (I don't think Athlete's foot sells e-gift cards)

    • thanks for the update,

Ihavent had a chance to use or test any of them,
I used the above link mentioned

      https://cms.thecardnetwork.com.au/swapform/1f6089f2dbe562566…

does that mean I converted my gift cards to Booktopia ONLY mastercard??

      • I can't confirm.

    • +1

Received a reply to my email to the Card Network as follows:

      "Hi DrRalph,

      Thanks for your email.

I’ve looked at your card and can see that you were able to use your cards instore.

Please note the consolidation of the gift cards and split payment processing online is something we’re working towards with our retail partners and we hope to have this for our customers soon.

      Have a lovely new year.

      Kind Regards

      Deb"

So from that I'd take it that it's impossible to combine the cards to spend online at present and that they are aware of the serious problems with their cards and things may improve in the future. Not a very inspiring response.

  • well, this is getting messy, my card didnt work in store, didnt work online, got told to contact the company 1300 974 538 if im not mistaken

there is only a automated msg that says " please leave your name and number and we will call you back"

    certainly not worth the savings
