    If it wasn't for Virgin's crap network, I'd get one…

    this morning in had no data connection on my phone for 30 mins even though i have full strength signal and 3G… The network is too often congested…

    • Same network with Optus. If it's crap what is good here? Telstra I assume? And how would you describe Vodafail's network then?

        i also have a Crazy John's usb modem (on vodafone), and it's about the same as Virgin… very unreliable…

        when the credit expires, i'm going to get a Telstra one…

        Same network with Optus.

        Also, virgin mobile confirmed with me that they only use 'some' of the Optus network… not sure whether that means not all towers or whether there is some bandwidth limit…

        At one stage, there were some country areas eg. Horsham that were covered by Optus, but not by Virgin

        • I agree, but just choose the lesser of two evils. Virgin's is better than Voda and no way compared with Telstra. But Telstra is way more expensive so pretty much a trade-off here…

        • In Tasmania, Optus is much better than before. Not perfect, but a very strong runner-up to Telstra. Forget Vodafone, what a joke. Their 3G network doesn't even cover Hobart's CBD!

        • In Tasmania, Optus is much better than before.

          I was there in march and had ZERO mobile coverage across the entire east coast from Hobart to Launceston

        • Darn, you should have stayed till May. Optus is much better, personal experience. Here's an Optus press release from 15 May 2011:

          $25 million investment, 24 month rollout program, three times the sites.

          A selection of areas receiving Optus coverage includes:

          Irishtown, Stanley and Arthur River in the North West;
          Bridport, Lilydale and Scottsdale in the North East;
          Strahan, Queenstown and Zeehan in the West;
          Adventure Bay, Alonnah and Dover in South West; and
          St Marys, St Helens, Coles Bay and Swansea on the East Coast.

    • depends on where you live mate…. my mrs had telstra and seemed to drop out much more than mine on virgin (optus) here in canberra. sometimes you try and make a call on telstra and nothing happens… like the network is busy or something. now we are both on virgin (free virgin to virgin)and havent been happier with mobiles.

      but then we went on holiday to tassie and optus network doesnt come close to matching telstra down there.

      but nothing worse with virgin over telstra imo. all the networks have sucky areas. mind you I was with vodafone for like 5 years, and i'll never go back with them.

      horses for courses.

    I think that the 6GB also has only 30Days expiry.

    • nope, 100 days for the 6GB…

  • 6gb for 100 days $39 with the usb modem as well,sounds like the best deal if you don't need a wifi modem.

    I think Dicksmith still have the $100 for a E160e with 16GB on 360 days expiry.

    It's mentioned somewhere on OzBargain.

    It's actually an E160e with 4GB data on 30 day expiry with a voucher for 12GB on 360 days expiry.
    The guy in the store said, wait till i'm near the expiry time on the 4GB, then do the extension, so I get closer to 390 days expiry on the 16GB.

    I got mine a few weeks ago in store. I'm not sure if it's still available.
