Not bad considering it the 2020 version

  • Doesn't seem to be too many of the older version around. Not on the Dell website. Have they phased it out?

    • I think so, I couldn't find the older version except on JB which was ridiculously overpriced.

      • Curiously it's still on their eBay store but obvious caveat being lack of cashback.

Annoyed at myself as I waited too long on the previous deal, wanted to see if you'd score cashback on top of the SPECIAL100 coupon. I didn't get my answer :(

        • Yeah, but for that price I'd rather pay the extra $100 for guaranteed 120hz.

  • wow i purchased it 1 month ago for 1694. Now it dropped even more. Time to claim 28 degrees price protection. Thanks OP :)

  • Any benefit of this over the $500 cheaper Acer X34P?

    • I'd like to know this too, the only thing I can see on the specs is that the x34p has HDR 10bit(8bit+FRC) vs just 8 bit of the Alienware.

      • +1

I think you're incorrect on the HDR front, but it does have the 10bit panel.

        Going by spec sheet

        Acer - https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/84eb108f

        Dell - https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/cc5e1b81

The other differences are that the Dell is more or less the colour accurate one with higher sRGB and DCI rating, higher brightness of 350 vs 300 and better response time of 2ms vs 4ms.

        • The dell seems to have less colours though? 24bit vs 30?

          • @ONEMariachi: Mmmm you're right, since the Acer has the 10 bit panel. I don't know how colour accuracy is measured though, so it is what it is I guess.

            • @dormammu: Yeah I don't quite get it. I'm happy with the $850 I paid for my x34p though. I really can't imagine this panel is worth the extra $600.

    • +1

      Warranty.

    • +2

Pretty much guaranteed 120Hz on the AW3420DW whereas the X34P is 100Hz native with 120Hz overclock (with quite a few reports of flickering after a few weeks). Faster response times. Wider colour gamut (pros and cons). Heavier (~15kg vs ~10kg).

      • I own the Acer X34P and it is a fantastic monitor. The Dell might be marginally better but i doubt majority of the people buying it will notice the difference in performance but the extra $500 is definitely noticeable when it hits your pocket.

        • +2

I agree the performance difference is marginal. But having the Dell 15 day returns and advanced replacements for this type of monitor which has had numerous QC issues, may just be worth the extra ~$400 for peace of mind, plus the better specs. :)

          • +1

@Damon8: Yeah I personally havent had great experience with Dell when my laptop broke down. Took them a very long time to send someone to pick up and fix it. That said if this has changed and yeah the warranty for electronics this expensive might be a conisderation.

        • I'd pay the extra $500 for the Dell any day, there's a reason Acer products are priced in the budget range.

  • The LG has been reviewed generally as the better monitor but the DELL warranty is better.

I'm waiting for Samsung 49 CRG9 to be discounted. Sigh

  • +3

Code SPECIAL100 still works, bringing the price down to $1,394.35 before cashback.

    • +1

Be careful. If you use any vouchers that not on the cashback websites, you might not get cashback.

      • has anyone tried using SPECIAL100 recently and able to report on whether CR/SB is still eligible?
I'm aware some members were able to get CR/SB with the code a few months ago

  • Been considering this over the x34p too… Just not sure of the wider colour gamut in Windows and games (over-saturation) and what the gamma is like on this one? I've read there's still no gamma control on this one. Anyone have any insight?

  • +1

The LG is currently on sale at DeviceDeal for $1499.

  • great price but way 2 much for me…

  • I am in the market for monitor too.

Thinking of BenQ EX351R. VA but looks like it's better for movies. I am not pro graphic designer and for daily basis especially movies would look better because of dark level and contrast over IPS panel, I am think this time I'd choose VA.

It is $500 less which I can put towards new graphic card

  • If I managed to buy the AW3418DW recently for $853 (still waiting for it to be delivered so haven't experienced it yet) can I assume it's not worth paying the difference for this newwer model? What are the main advantages of this model over the older, considering the older can still reach 120hz through a change in the settings menu?

I'm currently using like a 7 year old 24 inch monitor so either will be a huge step up but am curious…

    • +1

how did you manage to get the AW3418DW for $853?

      • Got it at JB through a combination of price matching, then requesting to have a further $100 knocked off per the Special100 coupon (technically probably not something they should have done per their policy), then some additional hard negotiating. From here, I paid for the balance (which was around $900) with JB gift cards that I get for 5% off through work (which I think saved me around $40 or $50).

    • No, not worth paying the difference at all. How did you manage that mate? Was that brand new?

      • Yeah it was brand new - got it at JB through a combination of price matching, then requesting to have a further $100 knocked off per the Special100 coupon (technically probably not something they should have done per their policy), then some additional hard negotiating. From here, I paid for the balance (which was around $900) with JB gift cards that I get for 5% off through work (which I think saved me around $40 or $50).

  • I have a coupon I’m selling. Comes to about 1144 delivered stacked with special100

    Just want 100 via PayPal
    Will give another $250 off

  • +1

Both cashrewards and shopback are doing 16% cashback today. (but won't be able to use any coupons)
should come down to $1,276.99 after cashback

    • +1

finally pulled the trigger after sitting on fence for half a day.
est delivery date 23rd Jan though…..

      • Same, can’t be right can it?

        • The delivery estimate page says 2-3 business days for in stock items lol…

      • How annoying, I'm going to go with the Asus in that case.

      • mine is 7/01/2020

        • Have you guys received tracking confirmation from cr yet? My cr is showing 217.36, so total comes to 1276.99 as expected. Didn't want to risk using SPECIAL100

        • When did you order?

I changed my mind and ordered the Alienware monitor. Mine says 24/1/19 delivery.

          • @mrporcelain: I ordered last night around 11pm.
What changed your mind from the Asus ;P

I figured even if Dell does a 40% off sale in the future (instead of 35% off now), the 16% cr means the price should be pretty good now

            • @chew_chew: Nice! Yeah I agree, don't think the price is going to get better on the 2020 version for ages.

The Asus is 2016/17 tech. After watching some reviews of 120Hz and 144Hz monitors I think it's going to be worth the extra for the higher refresh rate and better response time. And I spent heaps building a beast of a PC, no point skimping on the monitor. It'd always niggle at me wondering if I bought the lesser monitor too.

              • @mrporcelain: yea nice! think I might need to upgrade my PC when the monitor arrives :p

yea even if Dell does 40% off in the future, and if theres another coupon like SPECIAL100, the price will come down to $2,299*0.6-$100 = $1,279.4 which is basically the price now.

                Hopefully the monitor arrives sooner!

  • My delivery just changed from 3/01 to the 31st

    • Mine still says 23/01 which is still pretty bad

    • This happened to me too. But my Shopback didn't track so I might just cancel and re-order.

    • Mine has been 23/1 and is still 23/1

      • Yeah I’ve changed y mind and cancelled anyway. No need to replace my x34

  • +1

Finally received shipping confirmation this afternoon.

Hopefully should receive it earlier than 23/1.

  • Anyone that's ordered one, let us all know how you find this monitor's wider colour gamut in games/desktop, motion quality/responsiveness, gamma, or any other issues. Thanks :)

    • Mine arrived last week. Colors look great, as expected from an IPS panel.
Haven't played around much with Photoshop yet, since I haven't had much work to do yet. I'll see how it fares compared with my LG 29UM68 soon enough in terms in colour.

Haven't had any motion blur or tearing. I haven't set the response time to Extreme yet. No issues on my part. Though I suppose you can always order one and if you don't like it, return it. Dell should be quite lax with that.

  • Cashrewards changed my cashback to $149.17 just recently. This is after receiving an email stating the cashback would be $217.36. No explanation and no notification.

    • Same here, I have just lodged a query.

  • shop back has "Calculating" on mine…
