Best Coffee/Milkshake/Hot Drink/Thickshake/Drink in Sydney CBD?

So I just experienced the worst breakfast buffet in my life, terrace restaurant in Capitol Square Hotel from Groupon. It was like $14 or something and I regret every dollar spent on it. The best thing in the buffet was the milk and Coco pops and toast because you can't stuff that up. They had orange juice, apple juice and milk also the rest was just bad.

So yeah in the city thinking of trying a Guylian Belgian chocolate milk shake or something. I don't like anything fruity so sticking to coffee and vanilla caramel chocolate flavours. Worst case scenario I get a Hungry Jack's or McDonald's milkshake as they are usually OK without fail or pick up some Oak chocolate from Woolworths.

But taking any recommendations if there are any Sydney city drink connoisseurs. So yeah any cold or hot drinks to recommend or avoid?

    7-11, otherwise lower your standards

    • How much is 7-11 hot chocolate, milkshake, thickshake, cappuccuino/mocha these days?

Lime thickshake, Donut King/Coffee Club, very unique and delicious flavour (this coming from someone who only ever gets caramel).

    • How much is Donut King though because last time I passed it they were trying to sell at like upper market cafe prices but I know the quality is basically upper fast food quality so it was a hard buy or hard sell.

Especially when Hungry Jacks has those $2.00 medium thickshakes in the app and Mcdonald's occasionally has some also in their app from time to time.

  • I like hot chocolate and chocolate milkshakes from the Lindt cafe.

    • On my list.

  • I suggest you wander off to KoKo Blacks. They do $7 Hot Chocolate or $7 Milkshake. Truly scrumptious.

    • I am going to have to try this place I have heard a lot about it.

  • Koko black in Pitt St mall is nice (and there's a hidden little eating/cafe area downstairs which not everyone realises), and there's also Lindt in Darling Harbour and Guylian in Darling Quarter.

For coffee I think it'll come down a lot to personal preference but I think around Wynyard area, I'm a fan of Shirt Bar coffee, and around Town Hall, Stir Espresso in Darling Park Tower 3. Workshop in Vic Galleries at Town Hall is also decent IMO.

There used to be a chocolate drink shop in Town Hall arcade (opposite the subway) but I'm not sure if it's still there - they had nice chocolates and drinks (eg mocha).

    • I can't swallow coffee more than $2 it is just me I would rather just go home then and make it myself.

But milkshakes and 'sometimes but it really depends on the place and price' thick shakes I can sometimes get sucked into but hot chocolate I absolutely love not just because the numerous times I have made it at home half the time I get the balance wrong but a good hot chocolate for me personally is the only thing besides something cheesy like pizza that can just help me get on with my day.. it just fixes me mmm yeah I love hot choco :)

Coffee I don't get all the rave about I mean a good cappuccino is nice or something less coffee and more milkier and sweeter but I can live without it unless it is under $2.

A coffee sachet is around 30-40 cents.. add hot water and milk and sugar and it is definitely still under a dollar so you paying $1 - $3 for somebody else to make it.. no thanks I have the skills enough for that haha lol :)

      But to each their own.

I think a good coffee is worth it and you're paying for the labour/rent/etc rather than the raw ingredients which as you point out, are cheap. There's also the convenience factor and the excuse to go for a walk!

But if you know what you like, or are able to make it yourself, then go for it. It's definitely not a cheap hobby but I guess in the scheme of things, $8 a day for two coffees isn't too bad.

        • I just count the ingredients and labour very hard because when I do splurge I always feel a bit silly the next day especially if it is something as simple as a drink.

Food I can rationalize a bit further because I am not a good cook by any means and have restrictions living in my home with meat and other items.

Pros and cons but like there is a really great pizza place near the station where I live and I find buying a pizza every now and then when I'm hungry is worth it because I cannot recreate their woodfire oven and just the way they make it is sublime I find the experience and food worth it it is an ok place but they make good pizzas at a decent price just not obviously domino's dirt cheap value but the price to value is proportionate it scales more than equally imho.

  • For good coffee, Workshop Espresso i go back to each time I'm in Sydney (Town hall location)

  • If you're looking for a simple nice cup of coffee I recommend Charlie Rabbit in the Capitol square building on the bottom floor. The coffee is $3.50 and if you want to know where the beans are from they're from double roasters. The location is also quite close to central station so it's pretty easy to get to.
