  • Pretty good price on the One X. I'd skip this though if after the One S.

    • +1

Just found out there are better deals available for the One S.
I have removed the One S from the post,

      Thanks.

    • Why would you want a one S. it’s very underpowered for modern games which it struggles to achieve decent frame rates

      • -5

A lot of people said they can't feel a lot difference with X with 4K game

        • +1

I think it is more that if you only have a 1080p TV, you might not see that much difference (as Xbox One X 4K to 1080p super-sampling is essentially 4xFSAA and with TAA and other AA technologies already in game, it might not be that easy to spot the difference).

          • @netsurfer: Unless you look very details frame by frame I don't think you can see big difference during game play.

            • +1

@superforever: The problem is that you still can. And, if you have 4K TV, why not get a console that can do 4K? The HUD part (text especially) is quite obvious (too obvious unfortunately - even if the game uses dynamic res, the texts often remain in 4K). It is harder to spot difference between 2K and 4K, but full HD and 4K, you can still spot fairly easy.

P.S. I didn't neg your comments and I don't know why someone decided to neg them.

            • +1

@superforever: Not true at all, it's a very noticeable difference, also don't forget HDR

              • +2

@mlburnian: Completely agree - owned an S and X and in many games the X is just much better .. frame rates, textures and 4K (just compare Red dead 2 for example)

              • @mlburnian: The S can do HDR.

          • +1

@netsurfer: It's not about what the TV supports. I bought a C9 OLED and wanted a cheap 4k player.

I already have an X but needed a 4k player and something to watch twitch/mixer on.

I play occasionally on it and games look fantastic.

        • I recently took Jedi: Fallen Order back because it was almost unplayable on my OG Xbox One, which has the same meat and bones as the One S.

Textures lagged or were downscaled (breaks immersion), load screens take an eternity (agitating for RPGs) and the presentation on a 65inch 4K leaves a lot of the game dev's hard work unseen.

One S for mine is basically a minecraft box. Can't see it doing much for Cyberpunk and games of the like.

          • -1

@OG Puppy Banana: Calling horse shit on that, I am yet to finish the game, but I'm playing it on an OG, I've spent a good 10 hours in it (a lot of which may or may not have been me turning on and off my lightsabre for kicks) and it runs flawlessly, and looks great too.

I had a couple of glitches in the first week or so that seem to have been fixed with a subsequent patch, but the game ran fine otherwise.

            • +1

@TheDukeOfNukem: You're probably playing it on a potato TV with 560p. OG and slim is slow as F. Even the UI lags a lot.

      • +4

If you have 4K TV or intend to use this on a 2K display, then definitely go for XBox One X.

If you only have 1080p full HD TV, then it is not that clear cut. At most you get 4X FSAA like effect via super-sampling (bear in mind, a lot of games are using dynamic resolution even on XB1X). As for the frame rate improvement, honestly, if you really care about it, you would be better off going for PC gaming. Most XB1X games don't give you an option to go 1080p at higher frame rate (some do). With XBox series X (the next gen console) coming next year, if you still haven't bought XB1X, is it really worth getting now? Even Red Dead Redemption 2 is on PC now.

        • +10

$400 for an X1X is way cheaper than even a budget PC. Not everyone can afford $2,000 odd for a decent rig.

          • @cnut: I agree. At this price point it makes a lot of sense and will make for a decent gaming experience… with a 4K bluray player for all those other OzBargain deals haha!

          • @cnut: This is about the frame rate bit I think. The main thing is that XB1X games tend to prioritise 4K@30Hz. Not many games give you 1080p high frame option. So, if you really want higher frame rate, PC (doesn't have to be super high end) gives you more options - 1080p gaming, not 4K gaming.

For example, even with RX580 on a dated PC, it is possible to get 2K@60Hz. While that may not have the details you see on 4K with XB1X, driving at 60Hz on 2K is more fun than 1080p@60Hz (I can still spot the difference between 1080p and 2K). Again, it depends on what you want to do.

CPU bound games - i.e. PUBG, you are better off going PC. Yes, XB1X is good value for money, but the weak CPU is a bit annoying at times.

            • @netsurfer: I don’t know how much better the One S is in comparison to the original 500gb model. But the One X made a huge difference to performance on RDR2 in comparison to my original XBone.

The 500gb almost ground to a half in Saint Dennis. I’d be lucky to get 5-10 frames panning around. The One X handled in without an issue.

So even though a 1080p TV won’t make a difference with 4K etc. it still have upscaling, improved graphics and better performance.

              • +1

@sghetti: Yes, I can understand RDR2 and some games struggle to hit 30fps consistently on XB1/XB1S. Digital Foundry indicated XB1S would drop to low 20s fps at certain parts of Saint Denis.

Trying to think of this for people who haven't got an XB1, XB1S and XB1X yet. Anyone in this category probably isn't that serious about gaming to be honest.

$399 for XB1X is probably a better buy than XB1S now. I'm biased coz. I am waiting for next gen console and would be happy to get rid of XB1X sooner rather than later.

            • +1

@netsurfer: This sucks about them. It would be cool if developers dropped graphics and had 60fps modes more often (where possible). I’d be happy with the graphical downgrade.

      • The S is still pretty good for a gaming machine and plays 4k movies via streaming or uhd discs. I've owned both and both are great for what they're built for.

      • +3

Same reason I'm happy to stick with my OG fat boi Xbox One,

Because it plays my games fine, it does my Netflix and shit, what else do I need it to do?

Like yeah, do games look better on PS4? At times, sure, especially a few years back. Do games look even better on the One X than they do on the PS4 / Pro, sure they do. However,

Do if you give a (profanity) about how games look and run, you would either
        A. build a gaming PC
        B. wait for next gen like me

Even right now I'd actually recommend buying an Xbox One S, or even the Xbox One SAD edition, they're cheap, reliable, got a shitload of great (and cheap) games for them, the S is a 4K Blu Ray player too if that's your thing, and so on. Buy one of them, stack up a bunch of games for cheap over the next year or so, and if you find you're wanting more, flog the thing on Gummie for 150-200 or so and upgrade to the next gen, where all the stuff you bought over the last year will carry over just fine.

Honestly there's plenty of reasons to buy an Xbox One S, or a base PS4 for that matter, going into 2020. And we all know full well the majority of early next gen games will be on both generations anyway so it's not like it will stop getting games the instant the next gen comes out anyway. Hell, if I was 10 or something and got an Xbox One S for Christmas 2019, I'd be stoked on it.

Nice price $399, "(Usually $649)" no ozbarginer has ever pay $649 for a Xbox one X

    • +2

I paid $584 for it back in March 2018

    • +5

I paid $649 for the Scorpio at launch because I love sucking Billy’s d1ck.

      • +3

        As did I…

      • Billy must be all drained out

  • letting you experience immersive and true gaming in stunning 4K

    lol

    • -1

You must be thinking of the PS4 Pro. Games look great in 4K HDR on the X.

      • -1

I think the "lol" is the idea that true gaming in 4k is done in a way that is upscaled 4k and not infact "true" 4k. Games look great regardless, most people don't notice the diff of 4k at couch-gaming distance. I hope next gen pushes for higher refresh instead.

        • +21

Except on the X many games run in native 4K, not simply upscaled.

          • -2

@mr_me450: Yes, but the true 4K is at the expense of framerates.

            • +1

@mickeyjuiceman: It's not really an 'expense' if the standard frame rate doesn't drop when the game runs at 4K. You can however choose to run the game at an enhanced frame rate instead of opting for enhanced resolution.

              • +5

@mr_me450: As someone who has a decent gaming rig, there are some games which just feel more well suited to couch gaming on a big screen even without 60fps 4K eg Forza Horizon 4. Sure it looks epic on my 49” super ultra wide and 2080Ti but I find I enjoy it more on the couch with a large 4K TV even at 30fps.

                • @jace88: Yeah I agree. It's good to have the option though, some games with art styles that don't really benefit too much from the resolution boost are better off played with the higher frame rate, while other story driven games with detailed textures that don't require fast input reaction time are better played in 4K. It's good to have options.

                • @jace88: I actually prefer FH4 on PC. I don't have FH4 on my XB1X on SSD and the load time is a bit annoying. Previously wanted to get the 3 months GamePass Ultimate for $1 deal so joined the beta program. Some of the beta firmwares and the update frequency of those beta firmwares are pretty annoying.

                  • @netsurfer: Oh yeah the SSD helped tremendously. I had an old T3 external drive and it’s made it much more enjoyable.

                • @jace88: Plug PC into TV: profit?

                  • +1

@ozbjunkie: I actually tried that and ran into a whole raft of issues which I didn't even know such as the different colour formats and limitations of various ports. My Samsung TV for whatever reason was very picky and after trying all permutations within NVidia control panel, refused to do 4K@60fps anyway, and even @30fps it was glitching. There also weren't too many 8m+ HDMI cables which were reasonably priced and could do the job. Another forum suggested I invest in much better cables/etc but by that point I had already lost interest in trying to run the cable from my study to my living room TV anyway.

              • @mr_me450: Increasing number of games are dynamic res up to 4K. Only first party titles try to do true 4K@30fps.

            • @mickeyjuiceman: Which is still 4K, as advertised.

              • @nikoris: No kidding. It's just that as usual on OzB, half the story gets told, either because people are being misleading or they just don't have a clue.

        • I hope next gen pushes for higher refresh instead.

          They won't.

          • @philmarcracken: Of course they will. At least at 4K I’m expecting 60fps minimum

            • @nikoris:

              4k 60fps minimum

Sure, if every game looks like tetris.

              • @philmarcracken: I’m pretty sure that’s achievable with new generation consoles
My Xbox one x does very well with 4K 30fps and I expect a significant jump in performance with next gen.

If you are gonna buy it don’t forget 5% off Woolworths e-gift cards at Cashrewards. Wish gift cards work at Big W

    • Do you know if 10% reward discount work? It didn't when I bought apple ipad from them. Thanks.

      • Not applicable for consoles and Apple items anymore

      • What is the 10% reward discount?

        • I think it's the team discount for employees

    • If you have access to Suncorp benefits, the gift cards are available immediately but only in set denominations whereas the cash rewards option takes about two hours in my experience.

      • Pretty sure Suncorp went down to 4%

        • For Woolworths yes, but for some reason big w is still 5% (or at least it was on boxing day when I bought gift cards for the Chromebook deal).

Beats me why they have different rates given both yield the same Wish egift card which works in woolies and big w.

      • Pretty sure Suncorp went down to 4%

  • +2

Haven't new consoles been announced? Better to wait for those yeah?

    • +1

Holiday season 2020, so still a while off.

      • +2

I guess so, but a year isn't that far away for a next gen console which gets released like every 8 years or so.

    • One X is a great machine but yeah if I didn't already own one I'd probably wait.

  • Did anyone ever pay $649 for a stand alone Xbox one x with no games?

    • +7

      Yes. I know a guy.
      (Cries in OzBargain)

      • +1

Hey man, it’s alright. There must be dozens of us. Dozens!

    • +1

I did buy one close to $649 ($640 to be exact) when it was first launched. However, I did use the AMEX $100 off deal and managed to get PUBG from Microsoft (and sold that) - I knew Microsoft Xbox Support are generally quite nice. So I paid around $520 net back in 2017.

    • I paid around that for a PS1

    • Yes, launch….

  • Good price, terrible description of the console lol

  • WOrth upgrade from XB1S?

    • Not now.
Better wait for the new consoles

  • No games included!

  • Checking recent deals was same price with a decent game saleable for $50 .
Microsoft store this will appear cheaper shortly again with better incentive .

  • +2

Good price. I've been looking to buy an extra controller for mine, but there doesn't seem to be any good deals going at the moment.

  • I know people are saying to wait but worth it to buy the X and offload the XB1S to offset cost?

    • Don't know how much you'll get for an XB1S given a brand new one from Amazon is $250… but if you have a 4K TV and games which are XB1X enhanced, then sure why not. Depends as well if you plan to buy the new console when it launches or not.

  • Insane price for a awesome 4K console, if you have a 4K tv (even 1080p) this is a must, i'd even upgrade if you plan on getting the Series X its that big of an upgrade.

  • the nerd vs nerd comments amuse me

  • +1

Does anyone know if either the One S or X support Dolby Vision for Blu Ray discs? Last I checked a few months ago, the S could not play Dolby Vision discs and everyone was pondering whether Microsoft would ever upgrade the firmware (if the hardware is capable of playing it). I went and shelled out some money for a dedicated 4K player as a result, however the X now sits nicely in that price range if it is capable of playing these discs. I tried Googling it but the results were all over the place and often dated. I know its a bit of a bleeding edge type of issue but new technology tends to become more common with time.

  • This or ps4 pro?

    • PS4 Pro for more extensive library of good exclusive games.

If I want to get into Xbox games or multi-platform games, I'll use a PC.

    • If you like any of the exclusive PS titles then PS4 Pro is an easy choice, also has bigger playerbase for multiplatform online games.

  • No delivery on it? kept saying "Home delivery is not available for this product."

    • -1

      I get the same.
      Seems to be pickup only.

    • Thanks, Added to OP.
