Pixel 3 has a much better camera than the A70

        • +36

Megapixel ratings mean nothing, you obviously don't know anything about these phones.

          • @Dontreadthis: If all you do is not care about photo ability, but just software processing then pixel wins. Pixel can't take macro, wide, optical zoom and doesn't have variable apperature.

            • +1

              @onlinepred:

Pixel can't take macro, wide, optical zoom and doesn't have variable apperature.

I can tell you from experience I'd much rather have 1 first class main camera than 2 average ones (main + wide). The A70 doesn't have optical zoom or variable aperture.

              • +2

@Dontreadthis: And then from my experience I like cameras that have versatility over over processing. That's why options exist, and it doesn't make one better than the other.

                • +3

Cool so you'd take my LG G6 over this Pixel 3? It's more versatile. Anyone want to swap me their Pixel 3 for my G6? There should be plenty of takers apparently!

                • +1

@onlinepred: If you like versatility and dislike over processing then you should prefer the Pixel 3 which captures raw over the A70 which does not.

                  • -5

@Fiximol: pixel 3 only has a single foxed camera that is not versatile at all. Pixel 3 overprocessed it, it can make night look like day for example. So if you like to take night shots that do not look like reality, then pixel

                    • +3

@onlinepred: I follow a fairly simple rule when it comes to photography with a phone: usable image > unusable image.

I think you are overestimating how versatile a wider lens is - the single shooter on the Pixel is 28mm equivalent, which is fine. Having had the S10e since launch the wide angle is pretty much a novelty.

Also, the consensus is that the pixel processing is flatter and more 'true' than the Samsung engine, and it is hardly 'overprocessed' (it's not Sony). Again, if you are so adamant about 'true' photography then you should prefer the pixel which shoots raw and then you can process (or not) to your taste. The A70 does not give you this option.

                      • @Fiximol: 100% agree! It's why I sold my pixel 3 xl while overseas for a S10+. True photography is about lenses, hardware ability etc. Pixel has a single old lens that relies on post processing alone. Again, if you like photos that have been processed to hell and back, like turning night into day, and removing natural light and glare, then pixel is your phone.

            • @onlinepred: The wide angle selfie camera on the pixel doesn't have to be used for selfies. It's awesome.

          • @Dontreadthis: Agree. If the camera in the 3 is anything better than that in my 2XL, then it's going to be awesome.

            Pixel cameras are superb.

            • @R4: Speed is important to me, I just remember the speed difference from getting into the phone and getting a photo taken was so much quicker from 6p -> Pixel - Pixel 2 that I hope when I update to Pixel 3 or 4 (or whatever comes next it can all just happen within a second (even when the phone gets bloats with open apps/low storage etc.)

              • +1

@serpserpserp: On the Pixel 3 you can double press the power button from screen off to open the camera app. It's pretty quick.

                • @simmo129: Same with all Androids, does the same thing on my Galaxy S8+.

                • @simmo129: my pixel (1) does that, current Android OS feature - I'm on Android 10 on a 3 year old phone that goes for <$200, now that's a bargain. Same software as Pixel 4. Photos are great.

        • +1

Just because it has three cameras does not make it better.

https://www.dxomark.com/google-pixel3-camera-review/ - Still in the top 20 of all phone cameras.

Admitting the battery and endurance time are better on the A70 according to gsmarena.com

          • -1

@XCelR8: Yet s10e got picked by mkbhd blind test as best camera.

            • +1

@onlinepred: Think that was the s10 Note plus and remember, that was picked by retards on Twitter, not people who knew what cameras were better.

        • +1

Don't think A70 can compete with the original Pixel in terms of camera, not just the Pixel 3. Also, it's dual camera since the third one is basically useless (depth sensor but Portrait mode still worse than Google single Camera, so meh).

      • Singular camera yes, but not multiple cameras or camera ability like macro and variable hardware apperature.

        • +1

A70 doesn't have macro lens… The 3rd camera sensor is a PR one "depth sensor".

          • @Bigboomboom: It can focus on objects close to the lens, pixel can't.

            • @onlinepred: No it doesn't… It does not have Macro lens to focus on close object, and main camera is pretty meh for price range.

              https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a70-review-1936p5.ph…

              • @Bigboomboom: I understand this, but it can focus on objects much closer to the lens than pixel can.

                • @onlinepred: No, by very little if at all. The pixels can focus up to around 3cm from the lens, and then you just need to zoom with SuperRes Zoom to make a MUCH BETTER macro shot compare to crappy A70 shots. The trick to smartphone macro shot (without macro lens) is using Zoom.

                  • +2

@Bigboomboom: Trick to it? Alter the aspect? That's not a trick lol. What's the trick to wide angle? Let me guess, stand further back?

This device can expand/shrink its display between 5.5" and 6.3"?

micro SD card compatible - up to 128GB (not included)

I thought google pixel doesn't have sd card slot.

    • +2

I think the 6.3" is Pixel 3 XL.

    • +3

Yes that's right, there have not been any Pixel models that have included a card slot for expandable storage

  • +1

The Pixel 3a Xl was on sale a few weeks ago for $577 at OW and HN. Worth a look around if your after a Pixel. 6inch OLED. No wireless charging, but NFC. earphone jack.

  • GCAM app can still be installed on most non-Pixel phones to get the best software.

    • +1

Yes and no, they aren't tuned for their phones as what Google does with Pixel phones. Prime example is Note 8 Pro, where Gcam does better at getting the right colour but crappy details compared to Stock camera due to hardware (64MP camera sensor). How good GCam is will be depending on modder tuning.

      • Does Gcam app work on redmi note 5 without needing to hack the phone?

  • Is PLUTO cool again?

  • +2

I got one of these. It's pretty good. It's pretty decent in all areas besides battery life and the software is quite basic. Fingerprint scanner is awesome. Camera takes nice pics, would be good if it had telephoto and ultrawide angle though. Also sucks when ever I get in someones car or uber, I can't plug in auxiliary. Good price, I think the new one is like double this for less than double the features

    • +3

Which 1980's Uber are you riding in which doesn't have Bluetooth?

      • -3

Just not as cool as carrying an aux cable into an Uber and harassing the driver into letting you use it.

      • +2

I wouldn't let everyone connect to BT in my car, let a lone uber. Aux cable all the way.

  • Just black?

    • Clearly it's not white

  • +15

My thumb is sore after scrolling past the heated debate in the first comment

  • +2

Are you sure it has a micro SD slot?

  • +1

Pixel 3 does not support external memory slot, but this is very good deal good find OP :)

  • Please note: The Promo Code: PLUTO100 is only accessible by those with eBay Plus

    • +2

That's why it says eBay Plus in the title …

  • How much was it when it was released again?

    • $1199 was the last price on the Googlestore site

  • Bought a 2 day old Pixel 3A XL from ebay a few days ago for $500. If you don't need gaming/performance, wireless charging, dust/water resistance, and a more premium finish overall do consider the 3A/XL as well.

  • +2

Purcahased! This is a great deal. I was considering the Pixel 3a but I'd much rather the water resistance, wireless charging and quicker processor that comes with the Pixel 3.

    • -6

      Shoulda got an iPhone instead

  • Hhhhmmm still tossing up between this and a galaxy S9 at same price point recently - general usage and browsing only, but camera important for young family shots etc.

Anyone used both - most reviews lean toward the galaxy camera?

    • Pixel 3 will produce a better still, s9 will take far better video and audio. If pictures are that important to you, you should spend more. Otherwise at the same price either would do great. Keep in mind this is only 64gb non expandable.

      • Just to expand on this a bit, for stills the difference between the Galaxy and the Pixel is really quite a lot. Over the last few years I have owned a galaxy s7, note 8, pixel 2, pixel 2 XL and Pixel 3. Over the holidays I went to Byron with a relative who has the s9 and we compared pics that we had taken of the same thing.

I really hate how the Samsung phones over process everything which makes a lot of things appear 'mushy' for lack of a better word. Skin tones look off and it looked like everyone is wearing makeup.

Low light shots make things worse and unless you are capturing a landscape picture I wouldn't even bother really.

I can't say enough good things about the pixel camera, and I used to be a bit of a Samsung fanboy.

        • Yea S10 fixes this, just turn scene optimiser off and it resolves it. Many people don't know about that. There will always be conditions one will be better than the other. Going from 3xl to s10e even I noticed how much better night shots were, and pro mode opens its abilities even more. Those that just want good photos could get any camera, no one sits and compares all phone photos to determine the best in real life. Most of us can't take good photos, yet so passionate of having a highly reviewed photo only phone with limited ability. This may suit majority like I said, they would also be happy with iPhone etc.

  • Think I'm gonna wait for Pixel 4a

    • I think I'm going to wait for pixel 5a.

  • A Big W phone ad that doesn't have Big W click-and-collect like other phone ads.. weird.

  • +1

For anyone interested in google pixel 3a, officeworks has it for $599.
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/google-pix…

This isnt the cheapest but is the cheapest currently, i think.

  • +3

I'm just posting this as a community service to anybody who is like me before I got my pixel 3. Not sure how many there are - I might be a bit of an oddball.

I read the same type of thread as this and fair is fair, we know that people quote the poor battery. You go in warned.

But.. to be perfectly honest, I did not comprehend the full scope - I haven't owned any bad battery life phones - so to clarify - for those of you who don't fully comprehend: the battery life is absolutely awful. Seriously - if you look at the pixel crooked, it loses 10% battery.

I don't think I've ever been disappointed by a phone but this one is a disappointment to me. Every phone I have had has been quite acceptable.

To be fair, I'm sure plenty of people are quite capable of handling the battery - I feel like I'm not one - I don't want to have to plug my phone in to charge every night and every time I get near power. Might seem unreasonable - but I could get away with that with my xiaomi redmi and moto g.

    • yeah i got one and if you're in poor reception, the battery will drain before works out! battery life definitely sucks and i'd be surprised if theres something worse out there

  • Why can't Google just make the phone battery removable and give two batteries on sale, simple

    • -1

They never will. It's why we buy samsungs.

      • None of Samsung's current or recent S or A series phones have removable batteries. In actual fact, I don't believe the S series has had a model with a removable battery since the Galaxy S5, which was released probably five or six years ago…

  • may be this is a good deal https://www.tobydealsau.com/en_AU/product/google-pixel-3a-4g…. Also could use for pricematch from jb hi-fi or Officeworks.

  • +1

Thanks OP, I've been on the fence about upgrading but this tipped me over.
