Any conspiracy theorists or pseudochemists want to weigh in on drinking acidic drinks from non disposable aluminium containers?

    • +75

I've got a Facebook account therefore I'm an expert.

Drinking acid from aluminium used to be safe but then Climate Change happened. Avoid now.

      • +8

        Only after alternating full moons

        • +7

Is the alternating full moon organic though?

          • @RtN: Organic cheese?

      • +6

        Greta, is that you?

      • +3

I believe it's fine if you haven't been vacinnated. If you are, then you are going to die

      • +4

Watch out for the dihydrogen monoxide

        • Don’t get that on your skin! Strong stuff

      • +1

The funny thing is that climate change is no joke.. sea water levels are already starting to flood low level cities in the US and around the world. It's only going to get worse. Say Bub bye to venice.

        • +2

Just a point about Venice, the reason it is sinking is that for for past 20 or so years they have been pumping out groundwater for the use of industry, so much so that the land mass as sunk. Now they are trying to pump sea water back to the underground to repair the damage. Good luck with that I say. So the Venice thing is not about climate change at all, they have screwed it up badly.

Anyway, this is not the platform for this stuff, this platform is for Bargains !!!!!!

        • Last I checked, global sea level rises over the last 20 years have are around 25cm

But curious to see your sources

    • +4

Something something aluminium fluoride something something cancer

      • +19

I thought it was Alzheimer's, but I may be forgetting…

        • Either that or the aluminium is lined with epoxy which leaches BPA. Everything kills us these days so why worry

    • +3

I would be more worried about the contents of the cup than the cup itself.

    • +2

Anything is disposable if you try hard enough.

    • Everyone knows aluminium blocks evil radio waves…

    • +3

You can melt down the alumnium cups and make mag wheels for your high yield investment BMW.

    • i only recently found out that every soda can has a hidden liner inside to prevent the beverage from reacting with the metal lol saw a video of the can being dissolved and the liner staying in tact.. i don't think it would be toxic to drink from a cup with out the lining, but it if the cup doesn't have it, we could expect to see the soda eat through the aluminum lol edit from the images i've seen of the deal it looks like the cups are thick aluminum, like the old retro metal picnic cup sets, definitely dont think the coke would be able to eat through that much metal lol

  • +1

People on facey also saying you can just buy these things for $3.
Probably sounds like the option if you hate the food

    • +31

Do people really call it facey?

      :puke:

      • +7

Do people really call it facey?

        One person does.

        • +1

Wonder how many faces he has?

        • I've met one person, who isn't me, that did. Haven't talked to him in eight years

    • +11

Isn't the correct collective term for "people on facey" actually FAECES?

  • +4

Is it any meal size eg small meal or you need to buy medium or large to get the cup ?

    • +4

When I order a small Big Mac meal through the app, it still includes the cup.

  • That cup looks pretty sweet.

  • +2

    Where the cup pic where

  • -2

they used to have free glass coke cup with meal, but quality of the cup itself is really low.

    • +12

I've got quite a few of these, and they are fine to me.

      • +4

I'm still using some of my 2012 Olympics cups.

    • +1

I would have to agree this is, the free glass cups for the Olympic was poor quality the class was so thin, broke a few just accidentally tapping lightly on other items in The sink when hand washing them.

    • I'm pretty sure there's still half a dozen McDonalds glass tumblers at my mum's place that date back to the 2000 Sydney games.
If you treat it like the glass that it is, instead of expecting the durability of plastic from them then they last for ages.

  • +8

How long til one colour is sold out and its going for $233 on scumtree?

    • +9

If it's anything like scumtree they'll be getting offers for 50c anyway

  • -7

It is just branded merchandise; should be free all the time.

If it were unbranded it might be more of a deal.

  • +8

    Free Aluminium Coke

    Prefer Vanilla Coke…

    • +6

      Not colombian coke?

      • +3

        colombian coke?

        this ?

        • +1

That's the lesser known cock eyed Columboian Coke.

  • How long has this been going for? I'm sure I've gotten a Big Mac recently but I was not offered a free cup D:<

    • Starts today. 1030am.

    • +1

Starts today, but you have to buy the meal, not just a single burger.

  • +2

    FYI these are handwash only.

    • +3

The one I got wasn't washed.

      • +6

The one I got wasn't washed.

        Fixed

        • +6

          Fixed

          It wasn't broken.

    • Devastating news :(

    • I image that's only so the branding doesn't wash off…

EDIT: I just found out alkali detergents attack all aluminium surfaces.
There you go. Learn something new everyday.

  • What the burger?

  • +3

    Those Bmacs already overpriced

    • Compared to what?

      • The Bigger Mac

        • No such thing as The Bigger Mac

  • +1

Hmm… Checked mymaccas app and it says "any Grand Big Mac Meal"

    • +1

Mine says the same, but when I selected Big Mac meal, the cup was an option.

  • I rather liked their glass… glasses better. Aluminium with acidic drinks? That's not a recipe for any kind of longevity.

  • Props to McDonald's for making them available for purchase separately unlike Hungry Jacks with their Coke cups last month.

    • +1

Or you could just wait and it will most likely become available on the Coke site: https://www.cokestore.com/

But why someone would want to pay to advertise a product is beyond me.

      • +5

But why someone would want to pay to advertise a product is beyond me.

Are you dense? Branding oneself with corporate logos represents who you are as a person and helps you identify with your tribe or something…

And for those who are dense, I’m not actually calling GG57 dense. It’s a joke.

      • Looks like something from indiana jones and the last Crusade.

      • +1

They only deliver to the USA.

  • +3

The one you get at hoyts seems much better…but costs ~$3 on top of a large popcorn and drink combo :(

    https://www.hoyts.com.au/offers-events/food-beverage/winstar…

    • +7

      im not paying 87 dollars….

      • +1

Is that for the small combo?

  • wonder how it looks….

  • +1

Isn't Coke already bad, regardless of the container/shape. Look at Santa ;)
But it helps remove the colouring from the toilets via its acids.

    • +1

Citric acid you mean? The same stuff in lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, berries and other citrusy foods? Oh the horror!

      • +1

        It’s phosphoric acid in coke.

      • Synthetic citric acid that is added to food isn't the same as naturally occurring citric acid in fruit.

        • +2

Yes, because one is a horrible chemical, and the other is…. a horrible chemical.

          Synthetic citric acid = C6H8O7
          'Natural' citric acid = C6H8O7

          .
          .

How do you use subscripts in the forum? The wiki says to:

You can use subscript and superscript, too.

But it doesn't seem to work for me…

          • +1

@Roman Sandstorm: It's the fact that it is manufactured affects things.

I know someone who can eat all the citrus fruit they want, but any food with citric acid added in causes allergic reactions.

            • @8azinga: Unless the manufacturing process creates byproducts and the additive is therefore not pure citric acid, then there is no way that natural and manufactured citric acid differ in how they are metabolised.

            • +1

              @8azinga: @8azinga

It's the fact that it is manufactured affects things.

This is known as the 'appeal to nature fallacy'.

I know someone who can eat all the citrus fruit they want, but any food with citric acid added in causes allergic reactions.

One anecdote does not equal scientific evidence.

      • Phosphoric acid is used as an acidifying agent to give colas their tangy flavor. It is actually more acidic than lemon juice or vinegar! The vast amount of sugar acts to mask & balance the acidity.
Studies suggest that excessive phosphorus intake can put you at risk for osteoporosis & heart disease. Calcium & phosphorus work together to form & maintain healthy teeth & bones.

        • @taki

Studies suggest that excessive phosphorus intake can put you at risk for osteoporosis & heart disease.

Please be careful with selective quoting.

There are other studies which show the opposite. This is even mentioned in the Fooducate page on phosphoric acid (where you obtained the first line of your post). A less-generous person than myself could argue that you were deliberately scare-mongering by highlighting a possible 'risk', but ignoring the very next line in the article. But I'll accept that you simply stopped reading when you got to the 'bad news' line.

Regardless, the quantity of phosphoric acid used in colas is only a small fraction of the normal daily intake. Even if it did cause issues with bones, etc, to increase the risk by drinking colas containing phosphoric acid, one would have to drink truly massive quantities.

    • And the stuff in your stomach.

    • +1

It also helps with Bourbons and some whiskeys. Very useful

  • Cheapest Big Mac meal $9.35.. hmm not sure worth it. Is silver one still coated?

    • +1

Probably not. But do you even get to choose?

  • Isn't an 'Aluminium Coke Cup' the same as a can?

  • +5

Just got mine, very basic aluminium cup, smaller than I thought also. I got a regular big mac meal and they tried to scam me and say it was only valid for the Large meals. I had to go through the app and show them that the cup was included in the order as per the maccas app I'd used. The gave me the cup in the end.
