This kit differs from the Arlo Pro 2 with:
2K vs 1080p video
Spotlight on camera vs none
Magnetic charging for battery vs removing battery

It’s Australian stock (VMS4340P-100AUS) so you should have no trouble price beating at Officeworks.

Anyone thinking of buying Arlo just don't. In 12 months I've had to replace four cameras that have died, the motion activation sucks and the night vision is virtually none. I've 'hardwired' them all, no better.

Trash basically, pls don't waste your money on them.

    No offence OP.

    • +3

All good. I’ve found the cameras to be quite good although their support is pretty woeful.

      • +3

I've just checked mine now, were on holiday. Looks like the 5th one has died, at 13 months old now out of warranty.

I've even added a security light, zero chance of reading a numberplate. I'm going to buy something decent when I get back, not replacing cameras every few weeks especially when I think the footage is poor.

        IMO, I wouldn't recommend them

Australian consumer law should be in your favour for at least 2 years on a product. Lodge the fault with their support and if they say it's out of warranty just ask them if they know about ACL. Should get you sorted.

          • +2

@ph81: I probably will but I'm gonna replace them. Ultimately I'm wasting way too much time pulling them up and down & dealing with support who make me jump through 30+ mins of hoops each time…

If the picture quality was good I might bother but I see virtually nothing at night so it offers no real protection.

            Time to move on :)

            • @Yorkshire-Man: Get it replaced and them sell it to subsidise your alternate camera. 😊👍

              • +2

@ph81: I will. It's the Pro 2 with five cameras (well 4 now I guess).

Not sure I would inflict this on someone else !

            • @Yorkshire-Man: Maybe the Pro 3 with 2k res will be able to resolve number plates?

Willing to sell me one of your Pro 2 cameras I need an extra one?

              • +1

@poxy001: I'm going 5k POE cameras on Amazon & hooking them into my NAS.

Give me a few weeks to decommission the ARLO.

                • @Yorkshire-Man: Low light performance and sharp focus are both
more important than resolution and megapixels.
Some of the best cams are still only 4MP

                  • @UltimateAI: Sure. This is my plan:-

                    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B077MCS7SD/

$85 per camera, POE powered & mate it with the free software on my Synology NAS. Would seem to be much better quality?

                    • @Yorkshire-Man: Reolink have a terrible name, mainly as Swann tend to use the
                      Same hardware with crippled firmware.

That being said I personally have never had an issue with them and find their picture quality excellent during the day and good at night.

                      Amazing night vision range.

                      • @UltimateAI: Ok.

The Amazon reviews seem positive both here & in the USA. My thoughts are also once I've CAT6 hardwired then the cameras are easy to change.

Purchased one & will test it !

                    • @Yorkshire-Man: Let me know how you go.

        • +1

FYI Arlo 2 night vision is known to be useless. Arlo Pro 1 was better.

I often warn people when these threads come up. Thankfully I did my research prior to jumping on the Arlo bandwagon

Still going strong after 12 months. Would buy again in a heart beat. Where is the better deal you know of?

    • I have to agree. I have the Arlo Ultra's and they would not work unless I payed the subscription, couldn't even view them live. As soon as I subscribed they 'worked'. I believe they have put the Ultra's on 7 days free local storage so I will have to see if that's the case.

      The issues I had are:

-There is a delay when you watch live and that delay gets more and more the longer you watch. I use it to see when a client is rocking up at my workshop, looking at it 'live' to then get a call saying we are here and nothing on the camera yet.

      • Delayed recording and notifications. Whats the point of being notified of movement if you can get that notification as it is happening. Someone will be in and out of your house before you are notified and can raise the alarm, go out the front etc. You cant tell the delivery guy to leave the package at the door if its not 'real time'

      • Camera wifi range wasn't great until I plugged them into power. Personally I am not sure why the power suddenly boosts the camera's wifi range but it does.

      • You cant get good motion detection. On one camera I have the sensitivity turned to 0 and have an area set. I get motion alerts on this camera for the trees and bushes moving in windy days. Super annoying and apparently paying for a subscription that allows you to set an area and pick up people and animals does not stop motion alerts for anything else even out of the area. This is a common problem people complain about that live with a street in front or paths with people walking.

Basically I expect better for the price, especially when im also paying a monthly fee. My old Swann kit didn't have image quality the same and the app was terrible but it did the above basic things flawlessly.

      • paying for a subscription that allows you to set an area and pick up people and animals does not stop motion alerts for anything else even out of the area.

Is your camera hard wired? I know for the arlo pro 2 you have to have the camera hard wired for the detection zone to work. Assuming the ultra is the same.

Also with the delay you are experiencing, are you on NBN or still on adsl ? I found when I was on adsl that my upload speed was too low so there was a 30 second delay. Since switching to NBN the delay Is only a few seconds.

        • Yup 2 are hard wired. The detection zone works fine for people, animals etc but outside the zone still gets 'motion' alerts. Apparantly its on their list of things to fix.

Im on NBN. The problem is its all done through the cloud with the Ultra's, so there is a delay to do its smarts and send notifications from the cloud. Same with viewing 'live' I am viewing it live through the cloud so its not actually live.

  • OP my Arlo 2 has 7 day cloud storage. Please change.

    • That's what he said

      • Oh I see. No free storage on 3? Cray. Apologies

  • +2

I have had the original Arlo and the Arlo Pro 2 for about five years. No issues on my end. The Arlo Pro 2 are hardwired and I am on an extended cloud storage plan with Netgear.

  • -4

get eufy, best ever, even pay for full price, totally worth it

  • +1

I've had the Pro 2 for a couple of years and am happy with it. No issues at all. Two cameras hardwired and one on battery, which I've only re-charged once. Came with one year free cloud storage through RACV.

  • +1

I've had this pro3 setup for about 2 months and like them, no issues to speak of.

If it helps anyone check out "smallrig" camera mount thingies on ebay too, I got one of those to mount an Arlo - from what I can tell it's very good quality, free shipping too.

    • I’ve been meaning to find out 2 things:
      - is there still a siren in the hub?
      - how loud is the siren in the camera? I’ve read reports it’s quite weak

      • Well, sorry I can’t be of assistance but I’ve never tested or heard it. When I’m home next I could give it a run.

        • If you could? I’d love to know.

    • Hey do you still get motion notifications if they are not hardwired? I cant seem the find the answer to this

      • I don't think so. Check the Arlo community forum

  • I'm on original Arlo here. Apart from delayed recording, no issues. Waiting for Arlo 2 deal….
Can anybody here comment please if they resolved that delayed recording issue in Arlo 2 ?

    • Haven’t noticed it on my Pro 2 setup.

      • Thanks - do you have it hardwired or running on battery?

  • Any deal for Alro Ultra?

    • Device Deal have it for $1,099 for 3 cameras.
I’m sure you could go to Bunnings / Officeworks and beat that.

      • Nice Thank you for that.

However, I am looking for 2 camera system to minimise the cost. House is a single story house, I think I can get away using just two cams.

        • You should just buy the 3 camera and get it price beaten at Bunnings. Would bring it down to $989 and you could sell a camera from the kit quite easily.

  • JB Hi-fi are $1099 (catalogue) minus 20% $879.20
