  • Is it worth the change from agl? Living in SA

They are about to reduce their solar rates for QLD atleast, although cash back is not eligible on solar plans anyway!

Best to work the numbers for your post code based on your usage!

      • +2

Yup I got the letter about the reduced solar FIT 2 days ago. I've had nothing but issues with this mob. I'll be looking for a new company soon

        • +1

And 2 days ago, I got an email saying my rates are going up.

I've had the best overall pricing, but I'm not simply sitting still now.

        • +6

I called Energy Australia to let them know that I was their customer for 8 years. After getting solar last year and earning a credit of $1000 this week I got a letter saying they will reduce their feed in tariffs from 16c to 11c. That led me to AGL who offer 17c and won't change the rates for at least 24 months. I'm now an AGL customer in GC Queensland. Joined online got a $75 welcome credit. After all these bushfires it's good to see at least one energy company giving our planet a chance.

    • +3

I messaged AGL on their website, got $100 credit on new plan, better than nothing and I like their app as it works with my smart meter.

      • -1

Nice work probably because if you went to a govt comparison site you will find out they are 50% higher than the best offer !

Yes I did find that out in my area . Even rang AGL wanting them to compete with other's to get the rewards , they are uncompetitive full stop .

        • +3

I did goto the gov website.. with $100 cash back its literally $20 over a year difference from the best offer in my area.

      • What state. AGL would only give me $25

        • $25 per fuel in SA, $75 per fuel in NSW & QLD.

  • +2

Can I stay for 1 or 2 months and then port back to some other better companies like tango/origin? Or do I need to stay for entire 6 months?

    • Also interested in this

      • My experience with churning power plans is they only do reads quarterly so you can only switch that often.(unless you want to pay the fee for a meter read)

Dunno how it works with smart meters.

        • Smart companies will organise their own out-of-cycle readings to transfer your accounts as quickly as possible after signup even if you don’t have a smart meter. Nobody should wait for up to 3 months anymore.

Smart meters? Churn in a couple of days, but you have 10 business days cool off

          • @Mikuji: They still charge you for meter readings even with a smart meter. If you decide to change at the time of quarterly reading, the average wait time is 6 weeks.

  • +1

Existing EnergyAustralia customers who switch to different EnergyAustralia plans/plan at the same premises will not be eligible for cashback.

What about "Existing EnergyAustralia customers" having only Gas connection, signing up for new Electricity plan at the same premises?

    • want to know this as well, already has gas with Energy Australia

    • if you in NSW or QLD, better off going to AGL and getting $150 bill credit (not cashrewards credit)

  • +13

Energy Australia never again. Was told that my rates wouldn't change for at least 12 months, two months later don't even have my first bill yet. Get an email saying feed in taraff will be reduced. Contacted live chat. Oh no you still will get 16.5c FiT. Then was told after I re-enquired that my customer support lady was in fact wrong.

Even on the website they are still claiming 16.5c.

Dodgy as. No one else is reducing their FiT. In fact origin are offering 19c but higher k/wh charges.

    • What state is that may I ask?

      • A lot of states apparently. QLD in my case.

  • thanks. just in time. hope that there wont be issue tracking the purchase

  • +2

6 months until you get cash back. Too long to wait IMO when you can just go to powershop who have $200 off right now.

    • +6

I'm interested in the $200 off Powershop that you mention - could you please provide the link as I cannot find it anywhere?

      • I was looking at powershop the other day for electricity and it was only $70

        • +1

The $200 off will be applied to your Powershop account provided you sign up to Powershop electricity and gas at the same time. The $100 off for your electricity will be applied to your Powershop electricity account, in four installments of $25 each. The $100 off for your gas will be applied to your gas account in four installments of $25 each. If you sign up with Powershop for electricity only, you will only be eligible to get $100 off your electricity.

      • -1

pretty sure i read that the powershop deal is dependent on you buying their green power plans? which means you won't be on there cheapest rates…

    • +2

      Hope this may help

99% of all Energy Australia transactions are approved to members within 60-95 days. 180 days is a 'may take' scenario for a very small minority, and is in the terms as contracted to us by Energy Australia. We either have the clause or we don't have EA advertised on site. There are many reasons for this, including fraud protection. Further, approvals are validated and processed by Energy Australia, not Cashrewards.

      • Thanks BA. not sure why I’m being negged- I actually wrote to CashRewards and that was their answer (6 months for approval).

  • Just got my cashback. Took 3.5 months

    Energy China more like it

I moved away from Energy Australia to ReAmped Energy a few months back as their per kW rate and daily supply rate were much cheaper and they also had $50 referral credit upon joining.

    • I was just about to comment how my costs with Red energy works out to be cheaper than with energy australia.

    • Thanks…was about to start researching as my 32% discount from AGL from the past couple of years was removed and I was forced on to a more expensive plan. Just signed up to the ReAmped after doing comparisons to old bills…will see how they go..

      • +1

The only issue with ReAmped is that they take meter reading once a quarter but issue the bill every month which means that two bills are estimates, followed by a washed/ adjusted accurate bill. This, unless you have a smart meter. In case of smart meter, monthly bill will also be accirate. However, this isn't an issue for me as long every 3rd bill is the adjusted one. :)

        • I'm assuming I could provide meter readings myself it need be. The prices look to be the best for electricity only in my home thought i do see they have a variable rate…I had big problems with AGL a couple of years ago and was in the process of moving to another company when they contacted me and offered the discount which so far has always been the best rate when comparing… As their customer service was fairly awful and I'd been with Energy Australia paying too much before I think giving another company a go can't be much worse…and worst case move again!

  • +2

Hated being with this company. Had to always ring up to get them to pay the refund amount. Never trust them again. Dodgy.

  • How long must you have not been with Energy Australia to count as a new customer?

  • +4

I’ve had nothing but trouble with Connecting with Energy Australia, then missing out on the Cashback due to having solar. Their app is pointless and doesn’t update fast enough—you shouldn’t need to wait 2 weeks to see your usage.
To make things worse, two months after signing up, they dramatically reduce their FiT making the switch pointless.
As of last week I’ve switched back to AGL and wish that I never went with Energy Australia at all.

    • So there was no problem with cashback offer or Cashrewards as terms clearly says this

Cashback is not available on solar electricity plans.

    • you shouldn’t need to wait 2 weeks to see your usage.

They use the NBN to send your usage data.

  • Ah. I signed up 1 week ago. :(. Missed out

  • +4

Not again energy Australia, I was with them for about three years and my bill was always skyrocketing. They kept saying there rates were same as others. Eventually changed to origin and bills dropped by more than half.not going back

  • Energy Australia plans all charge flat rate for usage, is that right? I'm more used to different rates at different times.

    • Depends on your meter

  • F me. I moved into a new house (rental) a few days ago and signed up to this deal while at work. Just came home and have no electricity, and can’t contact anyone at Energy Australia.

    • +2

and can’t contact anyone at Energy Australia.

      Try calling the Philippines…

    • You should have signed up for a provider before you moved in. That is the problem with smart meters, they can remotely turn off the power, with basic meters they have to send someone out to turn it off.

      • I realise I should have done it before hand, it wasn’t intentional. There’s no smart meter, someone came out and shut it off. There was an Energex card in my mailbox with yesterday’s date stating that power was disconnected at the request of the retailer.

  • +1

I still periodically enter into a fit of rage thinking of my time being with this provider. Avoid. Check Product Review - 1.3 star rating. Too many horror stories, which includes mine

  • Nothing to do with CR and their cashback but like others who have Solar and are/were with Energy Australia - I will be leaving them as well (located in QLD) due to their dodgy sales and support staff who seem to know absolutely nothing about their own company they work for!! The FIT debacle is the last straw and will never look to return.

I have a 15kw solar system installed and most other retailers don't provide competitive solar FIT rates for systems larger than 10kw. Still unsure who to go with as most companies are now similarly priced. Anyone know some retailers out there with high FIT rates that I may have missed?

    • +1

I moved to AGL with their FIT rebate at 17c. Not sure if they have a limit on your solar but their supply and use charges are a little higher than EA. My biggest gain is with the Solar FIT and no one seems to compare.

      • Yeah I can't go on that because their 17c plan is limited to 10kw systems.

        • how will they validate this? surely they cant?

          • @Mikey85: TBH - that's exactly what I am trying to figure out.. No one comes on site to connect me up (all done remotely through my smart meter)… I am just wondering if my exact system details are in Energex's database which could be accessed by AGL? Either way - I am tempted to just give it a try and see how I go…

    • Buy a battery, then the need for a healthy FIT is reduced…

      • +2

Batteries are still not worth it imo. Far too expensive.

  • I used to be with EA but moved out to AGL recently, if I return back to EA through CR, will I qualify? Same property. I still have log in account with EA for access to historical bills.

    • It's a new signup so why wouldn't you be eligible.

The real question is, why would you even consider signing up to them again?

      • Or whether I am still entitled to CR if I move out after my first EA bill? Is there a minimum account term for eligibility?

  • +4

Cashback may take up to 180 days to be confirmed by EnergyAustralia.

    no thanks…

  • +5

    Meanwhile price gouging existing customers…

  • Cashrewards changed my cashback to $149.17 on a published deal (16% on Alienware/Dell) after I had received an email confirming that I was going to receive $217.36. They did not see fit to provide any notification or explanation. I would not recommend cashrewards given this is false advertising.

    • Hi. Did you contact anyone about this? Any adjustment would have come from Dell, as we (CR) don’t adjust transactions post-purchase. The whole cashback system (buyer -> CR -> affiliate network -> store) is entirely automated, and whatever the store reports and/or changes via its network is what reports into member accounts. There’s obviously an explanation but without knowing the full circumstances, I can’t comment further. I will gladly look into it if you provide more details via PM. Thanks.

      • I lodged a ticket with cashrewards. I have sent you a PM.

        • This has been resolved by tightarse.

  • EnergyAustralia PAYS NO TAX to Australia. On sales of $23,901,332,940!! Energy Australia once owned by the people was sold off Privatised, now its based in the British Virgin Islands. We as consumers can CHOOSE NOT TO BUY make an informed choice, make these multinationals accountable.

  • I was with TruEnergy which became EnergyAustralia, cos it sounds more Australian, I guess being an American Company and all.

Didnt have a very good experience, wasnt cheap and they had no renewable energy options then.
And they (with the other 2 giants) were lobbying against the R.E.T. (Renewable energy target)

So not a nice company all up.
