from official website, must mean the QC ver 3's are coming soon.

      • +2

i doubt it. The successor is the 700 which is already out.

It's significantly more expensive. I received my pair yesterday. The ANC is not an improvement over my XM2.

        • I am not a fan of the 700s at all. I hope a new QC comes out.

  • Both CR and ShopBack have 2.2% Cashback

Says special price $100 off where list price is $499.
Maybe they will do something like last time with the earbud

  • Damn, great price considering its any colour, even the midnight Blue.

Note: Blue and Midnight Blue are "Temporarily out of stock" so I believe they will be delayed.

    • They were limited edition, so may not come back.

  • Midnight blue OOS, darn.

5 cents short of claiming TRS

The airline adapter is sold separately for $9

You'll need that on the plane. You're welcome.

      • +4

it includes one in the box… you're welcome.

        • And unless its a special one - most airlines include them with their earphones/headphones they provide.

          • @exc3113nce: i believe the shitty headphones they include in economy have a special 2 pronged cable instead of an adapter?

I know the quality headphones they give out for Business/First class are a two pronged cable to discourage you from stealing it since everywhere outside of the plane it won't be useable.

            • @lostn: Just flew with singapore airlines they included an adapter.

            • @lostn: nothing a quick strip and solder couldn't fix

        • +10

doesnt come in the box anymore

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I don't know about now but my QC 35 II purchased in 2018 did include it. My 700 did not include it. Don't know why Bose are cheaping out on these. The plane is the most ideal time you want to use your ANC headphones.

        • +4

no it doesn't. The series I came with it the series II doesn't. The box doesn't even have the little slot that it goes into, it just has the pouch on the door to store your cables and adapter.

          • +1

            @dizzle:

no it doesn't. The series I came with it the series II doesn't.

I have the series II… and I can confirm that it is included, because I took it out of my II and put it in my case for the 700.

The II probably doesn't include it anymore, but it did initially.

        • The QC35ii I bought in December didn't come with the adaptor. Fortunately I had one from my QC25.

      • I thought headphones worked plugged into one of the sockets - or is that only splitting one ears channel from the seat to both on the headphones (mono)?

        • Some planes do this, and even though they have two slots, if you just use the one it works.

Other planes still need the dual adapter

5 cents under the tax threshold for claiming as a single item though. Teleconferencing for the win

    • How do you claim TRS on these? You've piqued my interest.

      • +1

If you're leaving the country within 60 days and have purchased over $300 at the one store you can claim the GST back at the airport. No limit for going out of the country, but if you bring more than $900 back per person you have to pay the GST back.

        • on that topic, you don't need to declare clothing that you've purchased with TRS refund, right?

          • @lostn: If you want to claim the GST you need to. Needs to be $300 and over from the one store (can be multiple transactions but all within 60 days of departure).

          • @lostn: You do if it's over $900 per person ($450 for kids). They will often check on return flights where people have claimed on things such as engagement rings (you don't often leave them overseas).

            • +1

@dizzle: you have to declare "general goods" and clothing doesn't fall under that category. But I wanted confirmation from someone who's tried it.

I will be claiming TRS on about $1600 worth of goods (inc GST) and $500 of it is clothes. I'm traveling alone but will only be declaring the non-clothing items on the way back in. The immigration card does not ask about any clothing you're bringing in.

              • @lostn: I'm not saying you can't claim they have been used, but here are some comments from the border force website:

                https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/duty-f…

What items can be brought in free of duty and tax?
Most personal items such as new clothing, footwear, and articles for personal hygiene and grooming (excluding fur and perfume concentrates) may be brought into Australia in your accompanied baggage, free from duty and tax.

Personal goods are free from duty and tax if they are:

owned and used by you overseas for 12 months or more
imported temporarily (a security may be required by the Department).

It then goes on to describe general goods leading me to believe that all the above comments about personal goods included clothing.

It then goes on to say "total value of goods must be declared if over $900" not "total value of general goods"

If the total value of the goods a traveller is bringing into Australia that they have purchased overseas or for which they have claimed a refund under TRS is greater than their passenger concession (exceeds AUD$900):

they must declare all of these goods on your incoming passenger card
they will need to repay the GST refund back on the goods they claimed under the TRS duty and GST will apply to all items purchased, not just goods over the limit of their passenger concession.

Keep in mind similar price to the Sony WH-1000XM3 (Black or Silver) - $325 Delivered here currently on sale. Although a new model Sony should be out soon.

    • ditto new model bose, overdue to come out

      • Yeah probably not the best time to be buying these. Although having said that they may not release anything new until June so you will get some time out of these.

        • New ones won't be this price, so really up to buyer and needs.

          • @onlinepred: Of course - but you could assume bigger discounts on these models once superseded.

    • Although a new model Sony should be out soon.

June isn't really that soon and it'll cost full RRP when it does launch, around $500.

The XM3s are still the best ANCs on the market at the moment (in terms of pure noise-cancelling metrics) and we can probably expect to see their price dip below $300 again in the lead-up to the XM4s release.

  • +2

Im going to assume a new model is about to be released. Sony will be coming out with a new model, Bose have probably realised its also time.

    • Isn't the Bose NC 700 the new model? Seems pretty redundant if they made an update to Qc35.

      • See I was thinking the same. But surely with the popularity of the qcii, they would do the qc 3. I think if they don't, Sony has an advantage. In saying that, I feel like the xm3 are far superior than the qcii.

Just my opinion though, even if the build quality is lacking.

      • If they made a QC35 III it will be cheaper than the 700, which goes for about $500 on discount. $488 right now on Video Pro.

I'm not sure what changes they would make to it though. They aren't going to improve the ANC. All they did to call it a "II" is add a voice assistant button. Maybe they will change the micro USB port to type C, add a button for conversation mode and call it a day.

    • it’s possible they are renewing them for usb-c. They did that for sound link mini as well. All of a sudden it was on sale and no local stock anywhere for about a year and it rocks back up with usb-c

  • Anyone know how big the gap is inside the ear pad, from top to bottom?

    • +1

      4 meters

      • +4

        Damn, too small

      • Analogue or digital meters?

    • +1

      Roughly 60mm

    • +1

58x38mm. The ear pad is about 10-12mm thick and there's more width and height inside that, so even if your ears are bigger they will tuck inside a bit.

I would check the firmware when you get it. If it's 4.5.2 or later, the ANC has been reduced.

If it's earlier than 4.5.2 I recommend not installing the Bose app. The Bose app will automatically update your headphone's firmware, with no way to cancel or prevent it.

I have the 700 now, and unfortunately this time the Bose app is required. It started with a firmware update already. I have fears that some day they will bork the ANC of the 700 with another firmware update and I will not have any way to prevent it. At least with the QC 35 II you can simply not install the app which doesn't do all that much for it anyway.

    • It will automatically install only on Android. Apple devices are prompted. I prefer using the app for the QC35 II, better user experience especially if you have several Bluetooth devices you connect to (and don't want to re-pair to every time).

      But I agree,

      Avoid Updating the Firmware

The worst bloody mistake I did with these. See the Bose forum here about the issues. There are some reports on the forums too that updating to other firmware lowers the ANC. Downgrading will void the warranty. Not all devices seem to be affected which is why Bose claims to not have found a fix yet.

      • Ok, I didn't know that it was Android only. But I move between Android and iOS devices, so if the Android device updated my firmware, it wouldn't matter when I switch to iPad.. it's still updated.

My QC 35 II (which I no longer use) does not have the updated firmware, but this will be a concern going forward for my 700. They haven't broken it yet, but you never know when they might.

Apple did the same thing to their Airpods Pro. And this is automatically updated. Apple don't need your permission to do that.

The Bose App has no equalizer so I'm not sure what you're getting out of the app really.

        • To switch bluetooth connections. Every time I turn them on they connect to my husband's iPad and my iPhone when I want them to connect to my iPhone and laptop or my bluetooth transmitter. It's quicker to switch out connections with the app.

          • @Akya: I use the built in bluetooth toggle. On Android, you hold down the BT toggle to bring up the connected devices, and then I select disconnect on the headphones. You can probably do that on ios as well but it will take a few extra presses.

            Less hassle, and less risk.

            • @lostn: Thanks, I'll have to try that next time. Not like I really use them now with the lowered ANC :(

    • I've updated the firmware on my QCIIs and the ANC is fine. I don't think it has deminished.

      • I guess everyone else is lying then.

        • Mine were manufactured in May 2018 so relatively new batch.

Maybe the firmware issue doesn't affect all units?

It's also possible that mine were degraded as others are claiming but I haven't noticed.

All I'm saying is the new firmware seems ok to me for my headphones.

          • @bNiNja: Was it already past 4.5.2 when you purchased it?

            • @lostn: No, I upgraded to 4.5.2. I think it was originally version 3.x.

I watched a YouTube video which tests the noise cancelling functions before and after the latest firmware which confirms that technically the ANC functionality had been degraded (tests for white, brown and pink noise).

              https://youtu.be/yyC9QStmzcA

I haven't noticed a difference myself. I read some comments from the Bose community link and some people said that there is no difference between High and Low settings from the app. I definitely notice a difference in noise cancelling between the 2 functions on mine.

    • Agreed. The QC35ii I bought in December fortunately came with 4.3.6. Did multiple flights over January and the NC was as good as the XM2 and QC25 I previously travelled with.

  • Thank you OP. Picked up a rose gold version as a gift.

Missed out on the Microsoft eBay deal before Christmas for that colour and didn’t want to risk missing out again.

  • Price is back to 399.95 when you check out

  • $399.95 now am I missing something

  • So I just ordered 2 pairs.. total showing on payment page - $599.90

Once the order was placed it showed $799.90 on final page

Checked my CC and got charged $799.90..

Now having to wait on the phone to talk to them.. Uggghhh.. makes me just want to cancel the whole thing

    • +1

sounds like a temporary sale that got Ozbargained.

      • +5

More likely a price error. I think they accidentally priced it at the refurbished price and it's now been corrected.

        • After speaking to a Lv.1 support person (yes, read between the lines of my frustration) my gut feeling is that someone stuffed up and this is the refurbished price..

That being said she did say that they have had a large amount of the same issues this morning and are waiting on back of house for a resolution.

          So lets see

          • @r1mick: Did she mention if they are going to honour the price or did she refuse to commit one way or another while they ‘investigate’?

            • @sandshrew: the only question that matters. And he didn't ask it. :/

              • @lostn: Did I say I didn't ask? Leave the rookie comments to yourself.. :P

They declined to answer that as yet

  • Argh I missed it!

  • Do people not understand that Bose rendered these headphones unuseable via firmware update?

    https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/11/26/bose_firmware_borks…

People above claiming they're still unuseable.

    LMAO.

  • +1

Wow. Very pleased I managed to sell my QC35 (v1) for $200 last week!

    • you are upgrading for the Google assistant button? That is so useless. You still need to be connected to your phone for it to work. You can just say "ok google" and ask. You don't need to press a button to do that.

  • Does anybody have the issue of during charging , the led lights flash green and amber.

  • So did Bose end up honouring this deal?

    • Just got an email that the parcel is onboard for delivery today so it appears so :)

    • Received mine yesterday so hopefully all orders were honoured.

  • Not received… No further communications after the initial order confirmation email.
