Was just about to post. I went and bought the upgraded version.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Dusters-CompuCleaner-Xpert-Electri…

    • I was wondering if I should cancel the original and buy the xpert, the only reason I will stick with the original is a review that was left on the xpert “The air coming out gets very hot, very quickly I was a bit surprised by this”. I cannot find how hot the air is from the original, hopefully a bit cooler.

      • Hmm. I'll look into that.

Apparently the original gets hot too:

        https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ITDusters-CompuCleaner-Original-E…

        • I was thinking about getting the xpert too, but 25% extra cost for 10% more power didn't seem worth it. Plus with more power it will probably run a little hotter.

          • @Sirlofty: I just wanted the variable speed. Not sure how much difference it'll make though. May regret it later.

@ozbs25: Thanks for the link. Found this video where guy shows off both speeds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzBZTl29oG8
I think for an extra $20 the variable speed is worth it, esp since I'll probably be running it 90% of the time in the slower speed (just theorizing that I'll be able to run it longer and put less stress on the motor/induce less heat thereby hopefully ensuring longer unit life). I notice the unit only comes with 1 year warranty….

              • @noshopping: Cheers for the video. Looks like the lower setting will be good for most situations. Maybe if you use it more frequently (less buildup) you can get away with using the lower setting all the time.

              • @noshopping: Just watched the video…

Remember boys and girls, high pressure air straight onto fans can damages them by making them spin faster than they were intended to. Not sure if this pushes air out fast enough to damage fans, but worth noting.

It's generally recommended that you hold the fan down when hitting them with air.

          • @Sirlofty: and greater responsibility.

I also purchased the upgraded (black) version myself a month or so ago. It's excellent. Very surprised with how powerful it can get when maxed out, even for how little it physically is. Glad I don't have to buy stupid compressed air cans ever again.

      • How much difference does the variable speed make? Are the two speeds markedly different?

        • There's a fair difference. The higher speed is what I tend to use most of the time. It does help to use the attachments to focus the stream of air though, for really stubborn spots. Then you're getting a very tight and very powerful blast of air where it's needed.

          • @Gutmeal: Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping I can develop a routine so that it doesn't build up so much and can get away with just using the lower setting.

  • This vs traditional air cans?

  • Well, this "blows"…

  • This is a deal? I bought this a month ago for the same price. With the fat Shopback that was going on as well.

  • This vs Dyson hair dryer cold setting?

    • Dyson, especially the 23.75 Karat Gold Edition‎, any day.

  • I use a workshop dust blower, just avoid the higher settings so as not to risk blowing the whole computer away. Was cheaper to boot.

    • I use a small leaf blower. I tape up fans and jam wooden chopsticks into them before turning on.

why? won't the fans just… do what they usually do?

        • You can stuff them up if you spin them too fast, or the wrong way.

        • Yes but they aren't designed to spin@10,000RPM.

          • @nickxau: I think it's to avoid generating electricity back into the system… I've never done it but it makes sense to do so.. after all, it's a motor, if you put electricity it generates movement if you do the opposite it generates electricity back..I'm guessing..

  • If it's not even cordless or filtered may as well just use this for $10 …

    • Insufficient airflow/force

  • still cant beat my g'old reliable leaf blower

  • Ozito Power-X-Change 18v blower skin for $40

Possibly a better option if you've already got the batteries, I'd think. Certainly cheaper, and not corded like this one.
