Hi, want some advice on what refurbished laptop I should look at buying for both personal use and to bring to university. Need Full HD screen - I had a HP Probook from my high school, but I sold it because of how awful the screen was. Would like at least 8GB RAM. Not fussed about storage, but need good battery due to it probably being used all day everyday. $500 budget. Thanks :)

Like ThinkPads. This seems alright: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-X1-Carbon-3rd-Gen-Ultrabo… ?
Yes X1 Carbon is great. RAM might not be upgradable, but SSD & battery can be replaced.
There is also this (ThinkPad T450s) - what would be better in your opinion?: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-T450s-14-FHD-Touchscreen-…
@UosdwisRDewoh: Basically X1 Carbon Gen 3 > T450s > T450 in terms of portability, but sacrificing expandability.
Have a look on Gumtree in particular the Dell Latitude series of laptops. I have a Dell 7450 paid under $400.
Make sure to visit in person, goes without saying cash only.
Be sure to start up the laptop, may sound silly but I was stupid not to startup the laptop. The seller had the laptop on before I arrived seemed ok. When home started the laptop up boot issue occured upon startup. No big problem just be sure to check.
One thing that can fade badly over the years is the screen brightness especially if used all day every day by original owner. Try find something that was a spare or with light use. Last thing you want is a notebook that is hard to read in daylight even when on full brightness.
Only going to buy something in which I can easily replace the screen.
There is no such thing as "Easily replace a Laptop Screen". Best buy one with good screen to begin with.
Yeah. Of course.
I meant I'm not buying one with a glass screen, rather one with a plastic one where removal is much easier if something ever goes wrong.@UosdwisRDewoh: Not sure what you are saying. They are all the same i.e. LCD? All a pain to replace as Notebook has to be disassembled with care….plus cost of replacements are not necessarily cheap.
Anyhow, was just food for thought and to check screen brightness when buying (where possible).@Borg: Too hard to fix when there is glass covering the LCD. Would like to avoid that is what I meant.

well its OOS now but maybe they will restock at some time so keep your eyes peeled…
Was thinking about it. Would have got if they had more of the 8th gen i3 in stock instead of the 7th gen i3.
i thought they were basically the same, one is just a bit slower
8th gen apparently much better on battery.
@UosdwisRDewoh: that's kind of surprising given they're both on 14nm with same architecture…
Just don’t run a black light over a refurbished laptop.
If battery life is your concern I’d pick a new one when it’s in special. You’ll be able to get something at that price point.
Haha not planning to - thankfully.
Something new will probably be too underpowered for what I will use it for unfortunately.I doubt it. A new generation processor is almost always faster.
Sorry to hijack the post. I have the same budget and looking for a laptop just to be able to zoom in meetings and write on. No gaming. What would you recommend please?
I got a Dell 7450 256ssd 8gb ram 2.2ghz i5 for $268 with shipping used with windows 10 pro (I finally negotiated an out of ebay deal to get 10% more discount).
$500 would get you a refurbished ThinkPad T450 i5 with FHD screen, 8GB and an SSD + an OEM battery. Yes those are about 5 years old but well built.
