Discounted 12 month wireless broadband ($150 full price) Telstra Recharge

I've been lurking for ages, searching the "Deals" and "Find Me A Bargain" posts. Now I reckon it's time to see if there is a better way. :)

What I've come up with from the RSS feed and searching is that I went to Harvey Norman months ago and got 20% off when there was a post in my Ozbargain RSS feed that HN were offering 20% off all recharges one Saturday!

It seems I can get 10% off anytime at DSE and (maybe?) Woolworths, but maybe not now that they are pushing their own Optus based Woolworths prepaid offer.

I'm suspicious of those ebay merchants where it seems that expiry dates or using multiple $10 recharges (for example) may cause problems with getting it accepted by Telstra customer service.

Is there a way to "save" an Ozbargain search so that I get an email whenever there's a post with "recharge" in it? A bit like a D.I.Y RSS feed?

Or does anyone know where I can get better than 10% off a $150 Telstra Wireless Broadband (12 month) recharge?

  • Yeah, not really looking to screen out new posts … I like nearly all of them and have bought quite a bit of stuff after finding out the bargain pricing from new posts. I'd just like to get an email when a post with a keyword appears, in case my RSS app is not active on my Android phone at a particular time.

I looked into this just a week ago. Telstra won't accept an accumulation of any sort of recharges or whatever. It has to be a single recharge for the applicable amount.

    • And yet I was lucky, I suppose. I had two recharge vouchers, one for $60 that I bought to do a 12 month voice call recharge (before I found out about their new 12 month data deal) , AND a $100 recharge that I bought for $80 from Harvey Norman when they had the special (discovered through Ozbargain!).

The key may be that I rang customer support BEFORE I went online to do the recharge, got the consultant's name and reference number and wrote it down with the time of the call. She'd said that as long as I did them online, one after the other it would be ok.

Maybe I "sold" them the idea that I was about to buy an extra $100 only if I could recharge this way that did it… all I know is that it worked. :)

Went to HN, bought the voucher, went online and whacked through both vouchers, one after the other, noticed that the expiry date wasn't what I wanted, rang back customer support quoted the reference number and got it changed (They even "rounded off the date to about and extra month of expiry tome!). Oh, and the lower price data rate seems to be as advertised, as near as my check calculations will allow anyway.

Lenthy process but I got a much improved opinion of Telstra after it … they seemed to me to be human after all! (But I suppose their ARE limits … a whole bunch of $10 vouchers might be a different story)
