  • Anyone seen a Cochrane review on this stuff?

    • Pretty sure it does nothing.

      Why would it?

Imaginary mechanisms of action don't make sense against highschool science.

IGA have 1kg packets half price this week starting today. $3.xx /kg

Not sure on ‘natural’ or ‘additives’ etc

How do we convince people to pay more for salt?
Add an expiration date and "natural" to it.

    • Also changing NaCl to MgSO4 helps to justify Epsom name.

Aldi had 3kg for $9.99 2 weeks ago, and my local still has stock.

    Woolworths sell 1kg for $6

    Cheaper elsewhere.

I buy in bulk for around $50 (delivered) for 25kg so this is very expensive! It's on ebay for $60 or wait for sale to get it for $50.

    • This is exactly what I was thinking. You can get magnesium salts (very similar with most of the same properties) for a lot cheaper then this

The heck do you do with 25kgs of salt?

  • I just purchased a 3kg bag for Aldi yesterday. If it's all magnesium chloride how is it any more 'natural'. Happy to revise my neg but at the moment sorry I don't see the deal unless people are buying this specifically for eating and drinking which I didn't think was recommended…

  • Hi HEB - Good question. Almost all Epsom Salt sold in Australia (and the product purchased at Aldi) is manufactured in China. Many people today are looking for natural options for their skin(not chemically manufactured) and our product is natural. All Epsom Salts have trace minerals and chemicals. Our Epsom Salt (magnesium sulphate) is chemically pure so you know what you are getting.

    • Thanks for this. Am curious, how do you know it's chemically pure? Is it a certification produced by the suppliers? And what sort of trace elements would be found in normal epsom salt that you would believe to be detrimental to one's health if used for external purposes / soaking in water?

      • Yes, we have formal documentation from our German supplier that conforms to EU standards. The type of trace elements people are most concerned with are the levels of heavy metals. Let me explain the link - magnesium sulphate (epsom salts) is formed by a chemical reaction of magnesium oxide and sulphuric acid. As sulphuric acid is commonly used to remove heavy metals in industrial processes, there is a concern that the sulphuric acid used in production of epsom salts is bringing some heavy metal trace elements to the product. We are too small to do extensive industry testing, but we have seen one set of test results that shows the German product has lower levels of heavy metals.

        • But isnt metal trace elements found everywhere anyway? What would be the harm in soaking in a product with an slight increase of sulphuric acid and heavy metal that's still safe within acceptable limits?
