[VIC] DeWalt DCZ594P2-XE 5 Piece 18V 5.0Ah XR Combo Kit - $749.99 @ Costco Ringwood (Membership Required)

50

Spotted today in Ringwood and seems like a pretty good buy for what you get. Appears to be an older style kit and so there's nothing directly comparable at Total/Sydney Tools as most of theirs will have the newer style grinders and recip saws. But if you're not too fussed about having the smaller, brushed versions of those tools it seems like a good get.

Only found this same kit available from two other retailers:
Bigger Boyz Toyz @$999 https://www.bbta.com.au/dewalt-dcz594p2-xe-18v-xr-li-ion-5pc…
Power Tools Specialists @$1499 https://powertoolspecialists.com.au/dewalt-dcz594p2-xe-18v-x…

Contains:
DCD796 Brushless Hammer Drill
DCF887 Brushless 3spd Impact Driver
DCS387 Reciprocating Saw
DCG412 125MM Angle Grinder
DCL040 LED Pivot Light Kit
2 x 5.0AH 18V XR Batteries

  • How was the crowd at Costco? Have heard that it has been crazy lately…

    • +1

I was there about 1-2pm. Pretty deep lines at the registers when I got there but by the time I left it had thinned down to normal. Didn't check the toilet paper stocks, though.

    • Lol last time I went people were queuing for trolleys.

      • Last time 10 days ago there were no trolleys.

  • Hmm. The 2 drills can be had with a 54v flexvolt battery for $279.
Not sure how much use the light is.
    Recip saw is handy.

Overall, deal is OK but better options if you were to piece a kit together yourself.

54v batteries can be used in both their 54v and 18v tools. Technically the 18v batteries can too - you’ll just get less run time (1/3) and most likely weaker power output.

I don't think the figure of 1/3 run time is correct. A 54v 6Ah battery is 6Ah at 18V but only actually 2Ah at 54V. When running at 18V there are 3 banks of cells run in parallel but at 54V the 3 banks are run in series. Both configurations give the same number of Watt Hours which is the true measure of capacity. There may be an increase in run time at 54V but that might be because the motor is designed to be more efficient at the higher voltage but I wouldn't expect it to run anywhere near 3 times longer. Iam not familiar with Flexvolt tools specifically so happy to be proven wrong if I have missed something.
