Cheap Sim to Help Telstra to Boost Transfer

Current Telstra post-paid customer, looking to swap to Boost pre-paid. Boost told me I need to be on Telstra pre-paid, which I can't arrange currently as they don't have people on their live chat system.

So, good people, what's the best way to go about this without paying for a month of pre-paid for no reason?

Thanks!

I recently did this with a $2 Optus Sim by activating it over live chat. No need to recharge.

    Do that

Port to Optus as above and port to a free Telstra sim and then port to Boost?

I'm sure I don't need the Telstra pre-paid step, I think Boost were just trying to push the easier method

  • I recently used this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/521239

Went optus to telstra to optus. Sim took 3 business days to arrive, porting took about 5min each way.

I used a Coles $2 sim. Ported from Boost to Coles/Optus which has the option of 'Recharge Later'. After 15 mins, ported back into Boost.

Been there done this. Sadly it is a 3 step process to go from telstra postpaid to boost.

    1. Call boost and say you want to port from telstra to boost, they're go oh you need a special sim card, and will send you one out. When it arrives move on to step 2.

    2. Call up the Telstra call center and tell them you want to change to prepaid. They will process it and reuse the same postpaid simcard, so easy as.

    3. Call back boost and do the port over to boost sim sent out in step 1. If you got a 'starter' pack with credit, ask them here and they will apply this credit as part of the port etc or they'll say call back once ported out and apply it.

    Simples. :)

Otherwise just get a $2 simcard, port to say optus/voda and then port back to boost.

    • Yeah thinking the optus sim is easiest as the telstra support line could be hours of waiting on hold!

  • Another option if you're not desperate to go to Boost straight away.
Catch Connect 30 days 40GB $1.40 after cashback.
    Catch use the Optus network.

  • So to update… Coles didn't have $2 Optus sims, so I went with Vodafone. Had to put $10 on it to activate (good thing I did!), and the transfer was fairly quick on Sunday (less than 30mins). Then activated Boost, and I'm still waiting… So running off the $10 Vodafone currently

    • Hi,
How long did it take to port over from Vodafone to boost?
Im in the same boat (Telstra post paid) and have read a few curly stories.
