+PLUS from me. Older tech, but for everyday use this is a great buy for under $300.00.

Congratulations on your new store opening !!

  • Sounds good to me. Any other reasons to rock up to the Clayton store sale tomorrow?

    • There is a $4000 give away worth of prices. You can check out what we're giving away here:

Awesome - 1000 copies of Trend Micro for buying 1 piece of hardware.

        • +2

Wow, I thought you were joking! That really is misleading.

You couldn't pay me to install Trend Micro.

        • Yeah they might want to change the wording a bit :P.

      • Nice job on the prizes… I'll come in just to register.. and maybe pick up a couple of goodies. Remember to rig the comp for OzB so we win ok? :D

Congratulations on new store opening, I was order 3TB EXT HDD, can you please make sure ship out by today? thank you :-)

    • I'm picking they are keeping their stock back for walk-in customers. My order is on backorder on their site.

I remember when Centre Com was a tiny computer store on that corner near Sunshine Station XD.

    • +5

Yeah, and they previously had a somewhat bad reputation here on OzB for a while, but they have really lifted their game and now have better offerings and service than the likes of MLN.

It's really nice to see a company respond to constructive criticism in a positive way and move forward.

    • Who owns it? Just a bit curious. A success story indeed.

This Chinese guy… I forgot his name but we use to deal with him all the time. He is never at the Sunshine store anymore though (probably in upper management now).

        • Interesting, the founder and owner of MSY is a Taiwanese.

Worth knowing, Newegg's founder is also a Taiwanese guy.

        • Taiwanese ppl are practically Chinese (hanren). So they are, step by step, dominating the retail system here.

        • +5

That's because their employees are willing to accept minimum (or even below minimum) wages. Considering how much labourers earn in China, I don't blame them.

        • 2000RMB/month, more or less?

        • That's pretty much spot on what my cousin in China earns and he is a Uni graduate.

        • Whats with chinese owning comp stores? Lol.

      • Bear in mind that in countries like mine and yours, one can have a salary of 200 bucks/month then almost in a sudden, he/she can buy a 200 grand house. With his/her very own money. So its much different to/from here in terms of personal income.

        • Yeah the cost of living is definitely lower there than it is here. 3RMB 600ml bottle of Coke? Yes please! (Although it does taste a bit different)

  • Damn it! I missed out on my free copy of Trend Micro Antivirus because I got my T420 before the sale :(

    Needs more thinkpad :P

    • are the 2 thinkpad good value? how do these compare to the lenovo deal few days ago?

  • There is no HDMI output?

    • No HDMI, only VGA.

It's a very basic laptop, friend of mine has one and complains about the lack of connectivity since it only has 2 USB ports. It's also pretty heavy at 2.8 kgs with the battery pack. But at this price, you can't complain…

He bought it from JB Hifi for $400 a month ago, so this is a very good price.

Centrecom rep: What are stock levels looking like? Is it possible these will still be available tomorrow? I have someone who lives nearby and can buy one tomorrow…

Any chance these will be available to be shipped to NSW? (free shipping will be nice too :p)

    More T420 stock please?

    More T420 stock please please

  • Hi all, it is an excellent price and worth considering that you are patient (as in boot up) and don't spend 1 cent on any upgrades however it is not all that much of the eye candy for $299 ~ $300.
First of all, it has 2GB DDR3 with the shared intel graphics will chew some off that therefore you will be spending another $50 for another RAM stick which will equate to $349. You will realize this is needed when you have it for a couple of weeks installing apps and upgrading the windows, when it takes 5 mins to boot up.
You are also stuck with a smaller HDD and no HDMI which is why it is so cheap.
My opinion is to spend a little more and you get more of a future-proofed laptop.
MLN had an Asus X53N for $399 that had dedicated graphics, faster CPU and HDMI with 500GB HDD.
It is not listed anymore however i think they may re-list.
    Cheers

I think this is targeted at mums and dads who only need a laptop for basic tasks such as browsing, email, video, and so on.
