great deal, but if you dont need it at this moment, wait for Tegra 3

It's great to see a rep posting on OzBargain who just says it like it is. Keep up the good work!

    • +8

Especially after the neg fest on their first deal.

      Great comeback!

      • agreed. :)

  • @Rep Are you an authorised Acer reseller?

    • +2

      hi jackofspade,

We're not an authorised reseller as we deal mainly in EOL, clearnance and one-off lots. These were purchased and invoiced direct from Acer Australia.

  • How is the SHDC deal better than this one considering yours is class 2 while this Apus one is Class 4.

and shipping is 6.95 so total cost is ~$15 in which case I'd spend an extra $5 and buy the 16Gb version.

    • +1

We've just confirmed with warehouse that the cards are Class 4. Also ours are Australian Sandisk stock. I can't say for certain on SS, but they tend to have grey import SD cards from overseas (not that there would be much difference quality wise, but some people like the comfort of Australian stock).

  • seems odd that the shipping for a micro sd card is the same as that for the tablet….. presumably there is quite a variation in size and weight…..

    • +2

Today's SD deal is mainly for those bundling with the Acer tabs. We'll do a memory day with reduced shipping once we organise more efficient logistics.

Update: Just called the warehouse guys and it infact a Class 4 card!

  • Thanks Dealfox. Just ordered one, hopefully you can ship these out today.

  • Would officeworks price match these deals?

    • last time i called then they wont do it, but try in store.

      • Even if they match it, how much difference we can get from OW?
And what details we should tell to OW?

  • Are my eyes wrong or in the thumbnail image of the site above is the price $339??? So was it for sale for $10 less before?

    • It was an issue with our site cache. The refurbished last week were priced at $339

      • OK no problem… glad to see I don't need glasses yet!

I am so so so tempted… just to have a new toy… :)

  • +3

Bought one of these when HN had them on sale for $386. Highly recommended at this price. It's a great quality tablet. Update to Honeycomb 3.2 is out - it'll prompt you to update automatically once you connect via wifi.

If you buy new (not refurb) you could also try the $100 ebooks/music gift voucher via redemption from Acer. Not positive it is valid if not bought through an Acer reseller, but nothing in the T&Cs seems to exclude it.

But OP has stated that they are not an authorised reseller..

      • +3

        That is why crikey stated

"Not positive it is valid if not bought through an Acer reseller, but nothing in the T&Cs seems to exclude it."

    • I'm going to try it anyway. It only cost a stamp and minor damage to the box.

    • Oh yeah I got the 3.2 update just last Friday night!

  • this is great. do you provide tax invoice? cheers

    • Yes, Tax Invoice with GST included with all orders.

      • Thanks. Just got one.

      • I am going overseas next month - is it possible to reclaim the GST when going past customs? I understand that's if you spend >$300 in one transaction. Please let me know ASAP :)

        • Yes, we do provide a GST Tax invoice that you can claim at your TRS counter at your airport. However, the refurbished unit is just under the $300 limit I'm afraid (shipping is not counted in the TRS calculatin irc).

        • +1

Just add a microSD card to go over $300

        • +1

If I buy the microSD card that should bump it up $>300?

        • +3

You're right, that will probably work to bump it over $300 in one transaction! Ozbargain initiative FTW :)

The thing I'm curious with is, if we're buying from a site that apparently sells new and refurbished units that look like new, how can we be sure that when we buy new ones, we will not be getting the refurbished ones?

    • +1

From the description: "Difference between New and Refurbished? Mainly the lack of retail packaging/box."

      • Sorry my bad!

      • But come to think of it, can't refurbished ones come with the retail packaging/box? Not from this seller I mean..

  • How do you get warranty from Acer if you're not an authorised reseller?

    • +1

      Hi nanoronline,

Each Acer Iconia tab has a unique serial number that you use register on Acer.com.au. This also leads to your previous questoin re New vs Refurbished. The new Acer units have a different preceeding serial code vs the refurbished units.

  • Is it worth buying the refurbished unit? The description says the item was returned to Acer. They then tested it and certified ok.

    • You just reminded me about the creaky ones I returned to JB HiFi after getting 2 creaky ones. The guy told me they will have to refund me instead of giving me another one unless I am willing to pay for Acer's testing fee because Acer will just "test" them and say there is nothing wrong and JB will have to try selling the opened ones. And the guy said that has happened that is why he wanted to refund me instead.

      • How do you test whether it's creaky or not?

        • The first one was on the right side panel (the black plastic part). It just creaks under light pressure.

The second one was the most common case that I read online. The left back part (metallic part) where you usually hold the Tab creaks. And that is the worse because it does so every time you pick it up (I suppose more for me, being a left-handed), and whenever you're typing with your thumbs while holding it with both your hands.

I suppose it really was just me, getting two creaky ones consecutively until my third one from OW. But I do think that it is a safer guarrantee getting it from the local shops here. Unfortunately HN's $386 deal ended yesterday and OW's price has gone back up..

        • Mine does creak a little bit but I think it's typical build quality for a mid-range tab. The screen quality is very good…no bleeding edge at all.

        • Where did you get yours from? My third one from OW is solid with no creaks, like the display units at OW, HN, and JB..

        • I got a refurb one from dealfox last week. It creaks on the right side but it's not an issue for me because I mainly hold it with left hand.

        • Right side black plastic creaks? So it is like my first one then. For the price of a refurb I suppose that is not bad.

        • Does the warranty cover creaks?

        • Not sure.. Based on what the JB guy told me, if Acer would "test" a creaky tablet and said there's nothing wrong with it and sent back, I suppose your only option is to bring it back to the shop to change. For this case here, I dunno what DealFox would do…

  • +1

so tempted… don't know if i should get this or maybe find a ASUS Transformer for slightly more or just wait it out till the next-gen tablets are out (which isn't that far away now).

    • I think Iconia Tab is better than Transformer if you're not getting the keyboard dock. Otherwise, wait till Christmas time and by then Kal-El tablets should be on the market.

    • i am sooooo tempted too. imo, transfer FEELs and LOOKs better than iconia. however, i will try my best to just wait til xmas.

but should i sell my Mytab?????

    • +2

Arrrggghhhhh I paid 452$ not even 2 month ago !!! Tepted to buy a second one, just to reduce the price of the first one

      • +4

then you will have to by another one in 3 months to reduce the price of the first two

  • "New + Refurbished units by Acer"

Good luck to get a new one.

  • Just ordered one. Thanks.
WAS waiting for the Lenovo's tablet coming out but couldn't say NO to this good deal.

  • should i sell my touchpad.. all the tablets are coming down now, may be in xmas it will touch the $200 mark

    • I kinda doubt that.. The most should be $300. Normal single core phones aren't even that cheap. Or the less-spec-ed iPad 2 16gb WiFi only's price isn't going anywhere less as well.

  • Hmm, wish there was a W500 deal instead, despite the poor reviews.

  • Just bought a refurb…wonder how long shipping will take to WA seeing as we're on the other side of the planet. Thanks Deal Fox for the bargain.

    • Let us know how it goes!

    • +1

I bought a refurb in the first deal. It got delivered to me (I'm in WA too!) within 3 working days.

    • Yep, your order is already dispatched and you should get it by Wednesday in WA. Hopefully the Qantas strike doesn't cause any delays though!. Tracking will be sent shortly.

      • Mine got delivered this morning. Have to say, brilliant service so far. Lets hope the product is just as good. Great job guys.

  • Any discount codes?

    • Nope, just click on the link and purchase.

  • This is a great deal OP, and a great comeback from last week. I'm going to wait 'till Christmas and hopefully there will be some (Kal-els?) available.

    • +2

We'll definitely be eyeing off the Kal-els as soon as they are available from distributors

  • Ordered one this morning! Looking forward to it

  • All NEW units have SOLD OUT now. Only a dozen or so left of the Refurbished units remaining. Most orders placed before 3pm have already been posted out and we'll send tracking numbers in a few hours or early tomorrow morning.

    Cheers! Jason

    • Jason, I just tried to make a purchase but can't find the Paypal payment option that your terms and conditions say you accept. All it seems to allow is credit card payment. What am I doing wrong?

Update: Looks like all sold out now. Did anyone manage to pay by Paypal?

      • +1

I had the same problem as you when I ordered my (which was actually when they had the first deal). I asked them about it and this is what they replied with:

We had originally set up PayPal but found we had some technical difficulty during testing. It is now being investigated and our PayPal option will be available by 23rd September. We sincerely sorry we can't help you with the PayPal option right now. But, it is definitely coming!. :-)

        • +1

Thanks for the information. It would have been nice for those of us who can't read minds for some conventional form of notification that the Paypal option they advertise on the website isn't actually available. How hard is it to say Paypal option isn't available yet? Not happy and not impressed especially as they've known about this issue for weeks yet are still happily promoting Paypal as a payment option.

      • -1

        Hi Roger,

So very sorry you couldn't checkout via Paypal. We are working on getting Paypal back online in our checkout, it should be just a matter of days before we do.

        Cheers, Jason

        • Amazing! Why then don't you say that on your website and remove the Paypal payment references? I missed out because I thought it was me doing something wrong and by the time I'd searched your website for an answer you were sold out.

  • When I click "place an order" it just gone……..XXX

  • got mine this morning! super quick shipping, thanks rep
    so far soo good =]

  • received mine too, fast delivery.
but machine is behaving strangely, acting like someone is touching the screen but it's not being used.
    hate to call support line.

    • You mean after the device's screen is supposedly turned off but then it lit back up? Have you updated your Tab to the latest Android 3.2?

  • Also got mine this morning. Actually according to the tracking it arrived Sydney Tuesday morning and not sure why it stayed in the depot for a whole day…

I bought the refurb unit and it looks like new. 10" Iconia certainly feels a bit heavy when you hold it single handed, but then again my last tablet was the $99 7" Optus MyTab :) Mine also got an update pretty much straight away — but only to 3.1. How longer do I need to wait for it to upgrade to 3.2?

    • Have you tried checking for updates in the Settings? I received my 3.2 update late last Friday.

    • Hey scotty, glad you got it in the end ok. Wonders why it stayed in depot, usually shouldn't be the case but depends on the local depot. A few people in the office have said they upgraded to 3.2

  • Well mine update to 3.1 as soon as I turned it on, n then later on that day updated to 3.2 .. So jst keep checkin for updates
Anyone find a good deal for a sleave or case??
