Updated 5/5/20 3:50pm - Looks like the Alcatel 3 (black and blue gradient variant) is back in stock at $139 delivered. The other items are back to their original prices though.

Alcatel 3 - Usually between $199-219 on Amazon. Telstra's Evoke Pro (retails at $199) is a watered down version of the Alcatel 3 (aka Alcatel 3L) with a quadcore SD429 (instead of the octacore SD439 here), 2GB of RAM (instead of the 3GB) and 16GB of storage (instead of 32GB). Available in both colours.
Available at Officeworks for $219: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/alcatel-3-…

  • Need a new phone for Dad. Basic use, nothing fancy. This or, is there a better alternative at this price range?

    • +1

Don't think you can get a better phone than the 1S under $100. Especially considering it comes with Amazon customer service.

I'd check it has band 27 and then click buy!

      • +2

Not sure about Band 27 but it does have Band 28 (700MHz LTE)

    • If you are looking for something that is around $100, the 1S would be hard to pass - most of the time you get around half the storage with less RAM on phones at this price range. Not a great phone for sure, but should be okay if you are only aftering something for basic tasks.

      • Do you fork out the extra $40 for the extra features of the 3?

        • I did, just simply because I prefer the Snapdragon 439 chipset in the 3 as it is more power efficient compared to the SC9863A with better overall performance.

    • +1

Samsung Galaxy A20 is also a popular choice. I bought one for my old uncle who has bad eyesight (needs a phablet) and it is performant enough to have minimal lag during everyday use, it has NFC for mobile payments and the screen is AMOLED, which is much nicer to look at than normal IPS.

    • If you are in an area with good Optus network then check sales of Optus phones (under 100) at local Coles/Woolies. They also come with a free $30 prepaid charge.

      • +1

The 1S should be cheaper than the Optus X Power 2 ($109 at the moment, usually $129) with more RAM (2 vs 3 GB), double the storage (16 vs 32GB storage), better camera (8mp single camera vs 13mp + 2mp dual camera) and unlocked network compatibility. Optus prepaid devices cheaper than the X Power 2 are generally 1 - 2 tiers further down the specs ladder…

        • There was one basic smartphone with $59 or so (and it came with $30 recharge).

          • +1

@bajirao: Ya, they are way worse in terms of performance, storage and camera to the point they are almost unusable though.

  • Any tips for a first phone for a twelve year old? Want to buy outright and happy if it isn't too "smart"

  • +1

Wow, impressed by both for kids and the oldies.. esp. the 3!!

  • Is 1s with dual sim?

  • Thanks for this promo. I just bought one for my dad. Looks like a good deal for this price!

  • Anyone use either of these? Preference out of the two?

    • +1

The 3 should have a better camera, battery and display when compared to the 1S. Other than these and the design, the two phones appear to be very similar spec-wise.

PS: I am still waiting for mine to arrive…

      • +1

Got mine 2 days ago. Its a gift for my dad. Really impressed with it compared to other budget phones I have tested. Camera is average (my normal phone is an s10) but better experience than Vivo y12 i got for my mum a couple weeks back.

  • I got my 3 today. Are these dual Sim? I can't fit two in there. I think they're single.

    • Picked up mine today as well. Can confirm that it is single sim despite what was listed on the official website.

      • Yep, I've bought a Nokia 7.2 instead. Will give this to one of my parents maybe, or just sell it.
I can't return it if it's open, right?

        • Hard to say, may need to talk to Amazon AU about returning…
