    What's the deal?

  • +2

Why is it so cheap in AUD?

    • +3

This is actually a price mistake by one of our developers who typed in the wrong number. But I will leave it active until the term of the deal was set to expire on Friday May 1st. Kudos to whoever caught it and posted it. Was supposed to be 11.98EUR not 11.98AUD.

      oops

        Kudos to your developer :)

  • Usenet = truly unlimited storage space with unlimited transfers at unlimited speeds.

Files currently are deleted four thousand two hundred and something days from upload date.

The caveats are everyone has access to the files - although it's almost certain no one will touch your files - so encrypt them. And there's 20% (or a little less if you willing to gamble) added to upload size for error correction.

The protocol (Usenet) is seperate from the providers (the entity you pay for access) so your files are not at the mercy of one business. You can change providers whenever you like and not pay for access for years and then come back.

    • Thanks. I always heard references to Usenet and Newsgroups etc and thought it was some type of advanced iirc ftp hybrid.

  • are these the same provider as usenet.farm?

      • how does newdemon compare?
looks like astraweb is part of the same one as newsdemon. astraweb used to be garbage so left them.

        • I happened to have used both. Astraweb self destructed. Newsdemon was good the last time I used their service.

  • What exactly is this? Worth getting?

    • +1

If you're not sure what it is then there's no point spending your money on it because it won't be useful to you.
In basic terms, it allows you to access a server to download certain files off of specific forums.

  • Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP. Was recently looking for a block server.

  • I used the link and it indicated that the price was 11.98 AUD but I was actually charged $20.92 (13 USD).
    Anyone else charged incorrectly?

    • No, fine for me. Used PayPal. They are then authorised to charge in the future (which I don't love) but checking history shows only AUD $11.98 was charged.

      • +1

You can remove authorisation from PayPal.

    • Did you use Paypal? I noticed that the 1st time I tried to checkout and checked the currency conversion setting, so I backed out and tried it again, the 2nd time showed the correct amount.

  • Is this for a year?

    • This gives you 2TB download quota which should last forever until you use it up.

  • I got charged 13 USD, 21 AUD

    • Was it CC payment?

      • PayPal

  • can someone help me decide - i have an annual ninja subscription but thinking of dropping this for newsdeamon? I do remember seeing that ninja has access to 3 different backbones as they have servers in Netherlands, USA and Germany.

  • Could someone, in the know, please suggest a good search engine for usenet - i.e. with what things are, rather than just all the random filename stuff you get?
