AMD Ryzen 5 1600 AF Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler $179 + Delivery (Free for Metro & Some Regional/Rural Area) @ CentreCom

240

EDIT 08/05/2020: Mwave seems to be out of stock temporarily (but looks to restock soon), while UMart is also doing the same $165 price if you pick up: https://www.umart.com.au/AMD-Ryzen-5-1600-AF-6-Core-AM4-3-2G…

PLEASE NOTE, EDIT 30/4 3:25PM: Thanks to O O for noting, it is cheaper at MWave: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/amd-ryzen-5-1600-af-6-core-… ($165 + $10.95 delivery), and lesser postcode restrictions.

While not as great as the previous lowest price, but everything has gone up in price, so while $30 more it is still the best value CPU, especially when the price includes delivery. (Only better price is PLE, which is $169 excluding delivery. So if you are in WA or Heatherton VIC and can pick up, go for PLE instead.)

A bit of background for those not really aware, this 1600 AF (from the part number YD1600BBAFBOX) CPU is actually a second gen 2000 series 12nm processor part instead of the first gen 1000 series. AMD retained the first gen naming for its own practical/operational reasons.

Performance is virtually equivalent to the Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, so at least $50 saving (going by staticice's currently lowest price) before accounting the free delivery. The 1600 AF's performance is generally within ~15-30% of the popular Ryzen 5 3600 depending on tasks/games, while costing at least ~40% less than the Ryzen 3600 (going by the lowest Amazon US price post).

EDIT: Free delivery only for metro and some non-metro postcodes. Worth a try to see if your postcode can get the free shipping.

Been very happy with mine for the old centre com price of $149.. postage to western sydney was like a whole week though

  • I just got this. Super easy to OC to Ryzen 5 2600 levels on motherboards that support it. If you win the silicon lottery, you might even be able to push it further. Really good value.

  • While no one has great prices at the moment I noticed as I was building my never ending online build (it never seems to come into reality) Centrecom were always $5-$20 cheaper than everyone else.

While $149 is not happening without time travel I can't bring myself to pay $300-$500 over the normal (or on sale price)

  • Damn, just brought two of these for 180 each + Postage from elsewhere, thought i got a bargain.

Might need a couple more ;)

EDIT: Wait just double checked: i ended up buying two for $169 each with postage (thanks PLE, Now out of stock)

  • Free delivery to only some suburbs. From what I can tell, it's metro only free delivery.

    • Thanks, will note in OP.

    • For those QLDers playing at home. Beerwah is free delivery but Landsborough is remote and has a delivery charge.

      • I think it depends on the postcode area groups. Landsborough belongs to the "Sunshine Coast" postcode group, while Beerwah is part of "Outer Brisbane" using AusPost's guide: https://auspost.com.au/content/dam/auspost_corp/media/docume…

It is a bit confusing to work out which group attracts postage, as some regional town attract postage but some more rural areas is free. So best way is to just use the postage estimation tool to try.

    • I know you get free shipping to Albury NSW and Wodonga VIC.

  • Highly recommend this CPU. Best VFM CPU around imo

When i checked last week it was $185 at a few places, and sold out… seems like it might be coming back down? #excited

    • Good find! It was $185 at MWave the last time I checked. I suppose with the AUD back up quite a bit and supply chains from China loosening, the prices are reducing back down.

      Thanks, will edit post

  • I think the upcoming 3300X will cost at least this much here in Aus, but I would rather a 1600AF for the higher core count / better future-proofing and multi-tasking. $149 was a fantastic price.

3300X would be about 40-50% more. RRP for 1600 AF is USD85, while the 3300X is going to be USD120.

      • For gaming - 1600AF or 3300X ?

        • From what I've heard and seen, the 3300x should perform better than the 1600af. But idk if its really worth it, I'd take the 1600af over it any day of the week.

          • @theangrywaffle: Full benchmarks for the 3300X aren't out yet; but yes it is probably going to be better than the 1600AF… but it will also be more expensive. It will be interesting to see how the all-thread benchmarks compare.

@pronoun: Yeh that's true. I bought the 1600AF last night for $165 to replace my i5 6500 until ryzen 4000 comes out. It'll definitely be an upgrade and it's hectic value.

@theangrywaffle: What motherboard did you get? :)

                • +1

@pronoun: I got the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max (better RAM speeds compared the normal Tomahawk). It was a bit expensive ($210 I think) but it's a solid board for OCing :)

  • This has been the normal price for the last few months. Even from end of last year. $150 on special, $180 standard.

    • Might be normal, but it's such great value.

Running this on my VMWare server running mainly as a SIEM Server and a few other virtual machines. CPU utilisation is averaging around 10%.

  • Dam, bought this last month for $185

Paired this with a b450m mobo, running solid for my Unraid Server so far.

  • Prices seem to be coming back down, Hoping the same happens with graphic cards.
