So tempted to get it, my left joy con drift like crazy. Playing animal crossing and left the game on to pick up mail, came back villager was angry at me pushing them….

    • haha I didn't know you can make a villager angry on the NH. I'm still playing new leaf as my partner is playing NH on the switch.

I've been wanting to get the pro controller to but seeing that this is cheaper this will do for now. Will be interested to see if this controller works with the iPad (doesn't say so currently) but hopefully with software updates?

      • Lol, yes there are many ways to make them angry. Jump on it when you have a chance, you will enjoy it. Just a pain that you can't start new island for second player, have to share the same island.

        I bought this controller https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/nintendo-switch/255865-pl…
And it's pretty good. It has the dual vibration, motion controls, wireless, rechargeable and has a turbo+macro function which I use combined with a clamp to auto farm falling stars in ACNH

This controller is great for animal crossing as you can turbo A button to make heaps of wishes when the meteor showers come.

Looks nice but my wii u pro controller works well enough with the 8bitdo adapter for Switch play.

    • Are there any input lag on the 8bitdo adapter? just wondering if the xbox controller would pair great with this on the switch

      • I'm sure there is some lag like with any wireless controller.

I havent noticed it to be any different than using joycons though?

  • Decent controller. Software suite is barebones but works well. Sticks and face buttons feel nice, satisfying clicks. Unfortunately the D-Pad is not great, it shifts around in the housing which causes ghost inputs and sticking especially on Right inputs. I bought one for Mario Maker 2 and after a week went back to using my DualShock 4.

    • Thanks for your feedback. I've heard nothing but praise on the D-pads for being better than the switch pro controller. Will keep this in mind when I receive mine :)

  • But, how's this compared to the pro controller?

      • it can't wake the switch (only PowerA controllers (for third party controllers) can as they're officially licensed?)
      • it doesn't have amiibo.
      • the D-pad is apparently better than the pro controller
      • it has analog triggers (but I dont think switch utilises it in any of its games)
      • it's multi platform so you can use this on windows/android too (im hoping iPad soon)
      • What about the most important part? The actual build and feel of it? Pro controllers are some of the most comfortable and well built controllers I've used.

        • Obviously subjective, but I can't for the life of me use pads that have the Dpad/Left Thumb swapped around in a different location that what I am used to.

Everything being uniform with the 'usual' placement here was one of the biggest draws for me.

It doesn't feel "cheap" but is also not a solid as the Pro controller. Closer in feel to a DualShock. I have fairly big hands and found it comfortable most of the time. The D-Pad as indented arrows that can cause a little discomfort if you use the D-Pad for extended periods.

          • @TheProbe: i have the older SN30 pro which is modelled after the SNES controller shape rather than the dualshock wing design, and can say that the build FEELS just like the official SNES controller. very high quality stuff for a third party controller.

        • certainly echo some of the other comments here. I have NS Pro controller, SN30 pro and SN30 pro+. Build quality of 8bitdo products is very very good. NS Pro controller is above that, but of course costs more. I like the feel of SN30 pro+, very similar to PS DualShock.

        • I've got a SN30 Pro (super famicon style) and a Switch Pro controller. Both are well made and solid. I have had no issues with the D pad on either, but prefer the SN30.

The SN30 is a bit uncomfortable in my hands for extended gaming sessions, but brings me so much retro nostalga. Also has cross platform (I use PC, switch and xbox, it also supports bluetooth).

The Pro controller is chunky and solid, has all the bells and whistles and is the best switch controller you'll be able to get for a while. It does all the things with no compromise.

I was lucky enough to get a deal on both via gumtree for $70 and use them both regularly.

    • Can the Pro Controller be used with other platforms? I use my 8bitdo with my Raspberry Pi and emulation on an android tablet also.

      • I've used mine on PC with a bluetooth adaptor.

  • Good price , I got this for $75 delivered from core electronics a couple of weeks back.its biggest advantage is that it’s true Multiplatform , pc, switch, pi 4, android and iOS. Also has analog trigger buttons.

  • Bought 1 of this from Ebay - black edition on September 2019 for $55.82 delivered

Still waiting for my January order from aliexpress.

  • Why should I get this? What's good about it?

    • +2

Cross platform support, retro look/feel, good build quality, great D pad, and analog triggers.

      • silly question but can i use this as a pc joystick for console games i bought from steam and emulation ?

        • +1

I use mine with RetroArch on the PC with no issues, same for steam.

          • @Intoxicoligist: Cool I bought Sonic Adventure and want to play it with a nice controller. If you know of anything cheaper than this that would still do the job, let me know :)

            • @bailbondsh: I'm a controller snob (usually use an xbox elite controller), but generally speaking the 8bitdo stuff is high quality. Maybe look at the link listed above for aliexpress if you can wait for delivery.

If you have an xbox or playstation controller you should be able to plug them into your PC and just use them (may require drivers though).

For ~$50 you could do a lot worse than an 8bitdo.

              • @Intoxicoligist: i actually think i have an 8bitduo SNES controller somewhere… i also tried my ps4 controller but one of the buttons didn't respond in sonic adventure….

  • Thanks! Wanted the black but got the Gameboy edition instead. Will be great to use for both the switch and PC.

Pro controller is only $9 more ATM on Amazon

Know some people might prefer this, mostly for the dpad, but a big draw of this controller was that it was much cheaper than the Pro. At basically the same price it doesn't have the appeal. It was pretty easy to get last year for $20/30 less than the pro

  • Any reason why this would not work with PS4 and iphone?

  • How do these compare to other common PC options, ie xbone, PS4, etc?
I'm tempted for emulation but I have so many controllers.

    • Nevermind I bought one for no reason anyway.

      • Don't worry I am the same.

Personally I still prefer Xbox One controller for PC games just because the buttons all map without issue and UI elements work. Even went for Elite v2 now for the 'best' experience I could get.

I have an SN30 Pro+ for my Switch though since I wanted the turbo button. It's not as comfortable (IMO) as the official Pro controller but I appreciate the customisability/remapping/etc on this.

        • Another controller snob! Yay! I've got an elite v1 and quite want to upgrade to a v2, but cant justify it as my xbone broke and I just use it for PC.

Agreed about the sn30+ - not as comfortable but still pretty damn good.

Honestly the SN30+ pro got me into emulation again just because of the retro feel (having owned a snes it feels soooo good).

  • Got one a couple weeks ago from core electronics with the phone clip and been using it for emulation on my android, it's been perfect

    • That’s what I do too! Except for iPhone . It’s the only pad I could find that is so compatible .

    • What is worth playing on emulation with these controllers and android? What do you recommend?

      • +1

On my Galaxy S10e I've got games for NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Gameboy/GBA, PS1, PSP and Dreamcast and it can play all of those with almost no problems. Need to try with a Gamecube game to see if it can handle it but not sure if that's bring the limits of this phone

  • Damn it the one thing I've actually been chasing for a few weeks and I miss it.

I don't wanna order off stupid AliExpress

  • Just realised it's no longer listed on Catch but it was previously $56.99 on Catch and shipped by a vendor TechinSEA.
