@ln28909: Definitely varies a lot. I got mine for $3,300 after education discount from the Apple Store (physical) vs 3,479 on their online education store.
@TommySix: Yeah (not sure if it happens everywhere?), was quite surprised. Not as cheap as this deal with OW pricematch but you get 14-day returns which is nice.
IF someone posts a deal for a macbook pro at more than 10% off then that's a deal.

…and you're clearly not in Apple's target market. People who buy Macs are usually happy to pay the price because they see something in it that's worth the price. Simply trying to poo-poo a deal because you don't like the brand or think it's too expensive for your tastes does nothing to make OB a better place. If you're the kind of person who builds a sub-$1k home-built PC and is happy with that shouldn't be trying to tell a Mac user what is and isn't a rip-off - you're both in completely different worlds.
I wasnt happy to pay the price at the time but i needed one for a job i was contracting at. Have since been converted though and will definitely buy another macbook when the time comes to update. I do hate the way they try and squeeze all the extra money out of you with the ridiculously priced peripherals and how they try and force you into the applestore ecosystem.
Agreed. Apple's upgrade pricing is best for scaring animals and small children.
@Chazzozz: I think most windows users have trouble seeing what the hype is for apple laptops. I mean ultimately you tend to spend more for lower specs and a more limited OS. I mean there is a windows based app for every apple based one and more. Are there any pro's specifically to the macbooks other than style and popularity?

More substantial changes to the MBP lineup more like early/mid 2021 with Mini LED technology being used.

As someone who worked on a Mac desktop about 8 years ago and did not see light, can someone please enlighten me on what is so appealing about spending $3499 on mainly entry to mid level hardware under the hood. For example
720p camera - entry level
Radeon 5300 - entry level
16gb 2666 RAM - mid tier
512 SSD - mid tier
6 core I7 - mid tier
AC wifi - entry level
The only key selling point I see is the screen and the 100 w/h battery as I don't use a an application that is Apple exclusive.
I know Macs come from the same factories, like Quanta, in China like PC vendors. so the parts used are similar.
Build quality, MacOS exclusive software, security, long service life, just to name a few. Specs don’t really tell the whole story.

Not just viruses. Contrary to popular belief, Macs are not immune to viruses, it's just that most virus software writers are lazy. Since Windows machines account for a much larger market share (~88%) and Macs far less (~9.5%), and since a very large proportion of the Windows machines are found in corporate or government environments, they present a much more lucrative target for less effort. Why write a virus to target a smaller audience that may yield less return, when you can target a huge audience with a high chance of return? Anyway, that's security-through-obscurity, which is never a good idea anyway.
Where Macs tend to be more secure is in the tightly controlled code of the operating system. Many people complain that Apple keep such a tight lid on their OS and will arbitrarily make changes that break things (this happened with me a couple years ago when my DisplayLink dock stopped working after an OS update). This is usually in an effort to close potential holes. They also use Unix-based security since MacOS is just a Unix platform with a nice GUI on top. This is moderately more secure than the Windows model.
I think 'security' is becoming less of an argument to distinguish Macs, but the other points that automated made are still valid.
+1 for build quality. They don't cheap out on important parts like the screen. Battery life, resale value, after sales service, the list goes on.
Because it's portable and it has MACOS.
