  • My mate who has been a mechanic for 20+ years always questions the benefit of these products. He always says it's like adding a drop of blood to a pool of water - whereby it has no affect.

      homeopathetic car maintenance!

    • +2

Could be right, might just be all in the head.
I can say I 'thought' I've noticed improved torque and slightly better fuel economy but who knows.

    • +1

Yet you get called by your car dealer at service time to spend $150 for an injection cleaner that is the same thing.

Plus premium fuels say they have additives, this is similar.

At this price it's not a bad deal for once a year use.

    • +2

I wait until my fuel tank is almost empty - then add the cleaner, then run until I need to full up.
It's like a drop of blood in a pint of water :-)

Get your theory, but how do you know such a high concentration does not corrode some rubber hoses or gaskets?

        • I don't.
But your fuel system isn't fragile - it's designed to carry a strong flammable solvent at high pressure. I have no concern…

          • @Nom: I also add these types of products to a much higher concentration to fuel, maybe one bottle to 1/3 to 1/2 medium tank, but was bit hesitant to go harder.

Might give your trick a go next bottle after getting second opinion.

Any point using this in a car that has always used and will continue to sue 98RON petrol with all those additives?

    • Probably not, unless you have a blockage/problem from dirty fuel or dirt in tank/lines.

Bit early in the day (week) for Tequila?

Thought this was some super-evil hot sauce.

  • I always wonder if this stuff actually does anything.

      It cleans the wallet

Just ordered 3 - thanks OP!

    • No problem

Does this contain any PEA which is something scientifically proven to work?

    • +7

      It's got electrolytes

      • +2

        It's got what cars crave!

    • No PEA - this product won't do much, but a product with PEA will.

    • which product contains PEA?

The SDS says it contains <22% PEA, but interestingly without a minimum %.

        • +1

A bucket of milk also contains <22% PEA, as does almost every other liquid in existence.
Not sure how to use that information…

          • @Nom: But a bucket of milk wouldn't have listed PEA in its ingridients…or maybe the cow didn't know it can produce PEA…

  • to be perfectly honest, after using this in 2 of my cars, the fuel consumption actually went up. i did not notice any other difference

    • Ouch, opposite results and you had to pay for it.
Any decrease for me was always on the 2-3 refill

  • +1

I think this sort of stuff works dependent on what type of engine you have? Personally, I tried this on both my cars and didn't notice any improvement to fuel efficiency or notice any performance improvement.. Well nothing that would justify using this stuff again.

Looks like everyone is a bit confused if this works so I can share my experience. I bought a 2017 Skoda superb from auction house which has been sitting for a while. After I received the car I noticed that the car was running a bit rough(Engine sounded a bit rough, would shake a bit during idle ). I bought a similar thing to this probably by nulon and added but nothing seemed to change for me. But than one of my friend took the car for a test drive in Adelaide Hills and really pushed the car to its limits. After I got the car back from him on the way back home I realised that the car was running much smoother. It has been 8 months and car has been running great. I am not sure what to make of my experience but I have decided to use it once or twice a year specially if I can get it for this price. Hope it helps.

    • When you say, "nothing seemed to change for me. But then my friend took the car for test drive, that must have been fairly shortly after you added the Nulon I imagine, otherwise you would not associate the car running better with adding the product ( as well as a good squirt from pushing the car ). Am I thinking correctly?

      • +2

I added the nulon and drove around for a day or 2 from memory before my friend drove it. I was driving aroun the city and was gentle driving with lots of stop and start.I drove to my friend's house and it was running rough on the way there, my friend took it out for test drive and on the way back when I was driving again within a few hours it was running significantly smoother specifically with no shakiness during idle. I think it cleaned out the system during hard driving. Hope it helps clarify

Makes complete sense, the drive explanation as well as calling that an "Italian Tune."

I used to hear that 35 years ago when I was learning to drive that taking a car on the Open road and opening up the throttle was good for the Carby/Fuel system and engine in general to "Clean out the Cobwebs" lol.

Makes sense as even some moving parts like cables and springs can even get a bit stiff from siting idle for a while or not being moved, not to mention some dirt build up/deposits inside the fuel system itself.

    • +4

      It's called an Italian tune

    • I have only experienced results after a few fill ups, I doubt driving around for for a couple days would see any improvement

      • It might if there was a blockage or restriction and you ran the fuel through pretty fast with higher revs as described above.

  • I just fill up with 98 all the time :D
