  • Decathlon doesn't have physical store in WA. What a shame.

    • They were talking about opening a store over here in WA a few years ago, I hope it does eventually happen. Would give rebel a run for its money.

They ship stuff here with a reasonalble postage cost but only a limited selection compared what they have in the store.

      • How's Decathlon doing in Sydney and Melbourne when compared to Rebel? Have they taken customers away from Rebel yet? Given that Decathlon produces their in-house brands, you'd assume they are in the market against budget sport/travel like KMart, Aldi, Big W, and the like…

        • They are pretty close to closing.

They've massively reduced staff and stock lines.

They overshot with some product lines which cost them hugely even before corona shenanigans kicked it.

They had surfing/fishing/hunting sections that IMO are too niche and rely on recommendation/brand loyalty. Most everyone I know who hunts goes to their local for chat/advice or referrals from clubs.

Knoxfield store is temporarily closed due to lack of stock, Box Hill is emptying out. They claim many product lines are hard to get due to shipping restrictions but I don't believe it.

          • @Telios: That is a shame, that now explains only having 6 stores where the past press releases should be about 15 in Australia by now. They were were aiming for 30+ stores..

        • They’re actually one of the largest sporting goods retailer in the world and IMO offer a good alternative to the Rebel type retailers that sell from brands only.

Sometimes you want Nike or 2XU, and other times a good quality running top for winter that isn’t priced 50 per cent higher to cover the marketing component of the pricing structure is just what’s needed!

Their website says they have 1,500 stores in 49 countries.

Will be a shame if they leave Australia. Competition is always healthy.

Thanks, bought them all for my eBay shop. None left.

Kidding but I bet you some ahole will do that

There is half truth in every kidding 👌

  • Decathlon shoes are surprisingly good quality. I bough some in Europe a few years ago for less than $30 and still going strong

    • +3

Yeah but stuff here is globally much more expensive that the stuff they're selling in Europe.

  • Wow that's a ridiculously low price for decent to good quality stuff.

  • Apparently there down jackets are good as well for the price.

  • Box hill?

  • Are they closing down the Moorabbin store? It was shut when I went there at 5 PM a day last week. The sign on the door says they close at 7 PM. And there is a big sign for lease at the car park..

I was thinking Oh no another victim of COVID19

  • Went to the Knox store for the first time just before Covid thing started and was really surprised at the sale prices. Although didn't really think the stuff were necessarily good quality, some shoes I saw on sale were like standard Kmart/Big W stuff.

  • any in a better state like nsw?
