I think it's similarly priced to BCF deals, I'm just not a fan of the thin metal, too much heat escaping costing more fuel which will offset the discount.

  • Pros cons of this vs say a second hand weber kettle and snake method?

    • If you own a weber, use it. If you have no bbq, it makes sense to get a bbq to smoke with.

      • Dont uave a weber. Fellow ozbargainer suggested get second hand weber and use snake method. Still considering

Buy a weber second hand mate, you can do everything on a weber, it's a great start to smoking/grilling. Even if you get something bigger down the track it always comes in handy.

        • Get the costco smokey hollow bbq

There's no pros to this.. It is the worst smoker you could ever buy, my brother in law took this and used it as a fire pit but it started burning off paint..
Now i just use it to start charcoal fires for my smoker.

Buy a weber off gumtree, plenty cheap and work very well

  • Also showing as $79 and availabile in store only

    These smokers are rubbish.
Get yourself a decent smoker like a 'Kamado' or if you've got money to smoke, get a 'Big green egg'.

I mean none of them are dedicated smokers and both are kamado grills. Yes they are very versatile, but I'd go another route if looking to focus specifically on smoking.

      e.g. Weber smokey mountain

      • +1 to that

        • I looooooove my Weber Smokey mountain, ive stuffed around with cheap kettles, gas bbqs, the oven, slow cookers, nothing compares to a proper smoker like the WSM

      • Ive always been interested to try something like a WSM. What makes it better than a Kamado to smoke with? Genuine question, ive only used a Chargriller Akorn kamado and couldnt imagine needing anything else. Only thing i can think of would be that you have multiple cooking levels in the WSM making it easier to fit more ribs in, but even then, you can fit 4 racks of beef in the Akorn if you use the top rack as well as the grill.

It's basically the same thing as this which is RRP $69

i bought one of these and it was a total disaster. they dont seal at all, so temperature regulation is near on impossible, especially if there is any wind at all…. Also, if theres wind, it can blow up through the bottom spreading ash all over your food. As others have mentioned, it is made from very thin metal, so heat will escape, costing you more in fuel. And the absolute worse thing that happened to me (which was the final straw), the metal warped from the heat causing the racks with steaks on them to fall and my food fell in to the charcoal. the only good thing that came from owning this is it made me buy a Chargriller Akorn from bunnings to replace it. That has been an absolute dream to cook on for the past 3 years, and at $500 (ouch, $550 now) was the real bargain… when compared to the expensive kamados anyway..
the Dragon Kamado from Barbecues Galore is another viable option.

  • Any suggestions on a smoker under $250?
