Absolutely not worth buying the 3600X over a 3600

    • +1

I don't think it is absolute. Depends how much you value the nicer cooler (though apparently a bit loud) and the higher clockspeed/better bin (in theory). Perhaps it is worth $25 more? but if you already have aftermarket cooling then possible give it a pass.

    • +8

For $10 extra surely it is for the cooler and possibly better binning.

    • +2

Normally I’d agree, but right now it’s only a $30 difference. For a slightly better cooler and a little performance gain it might be worth it.

If the 3600 was at $250 then yeah, not worth it.

      • +1

$30 for what is at most 4% is not worth it in the least.

        • I'm in the same camp, generally, because it's normally $70 more that a 3600 at $300, and at $370 you'd have rocks in your head. But for $8.91? Sure why not? yeah I know you can a 3600 for $290 or even $280 recently saw that deal, and yes bang for buck is worse on this when it's that low so I agree, but still, this isn't a terrible deal, it's just slightly less optimal, maybe. I don't agree with the cooler comments, get a proper cooler everyone, with this one you have two choices, loud or hot can't be both cool and quiet.

Get this or wait for next gen cpus coming out this yr?

    • +13

Buying when you need an upgrade is best form, otherwise you're perpetually waiting for next gen x/y/z. This is a good price.

    • +3

Wait for the next gen to come out and the prices of this to come down. I'd say a 6 core processor should be under $200.

      • +3

Yep I agree. Paid my r5 2600 185 aud when the 3000 series released. Also wait at least at the é do of the year and you can get the XT version wich is a better manufactured cpu.

    • +1

wait for at least the refresh, if not end of the year for 4000

    • -2

Keep in mind the ryzen 4000 will only support X570 and B550 motherboards. It may not be worth waiting for if you will need a motherboard upgrade as well.

      • +2

Most x470 and b450 will support Ryzen 4000 as well as AMD changed their mind 1 week after their original announcement

  • +3

Better binned parts are being kept for the 3600XT processors to be released in early July at the 3600 price point. The 3600 will reduce in price then also.

The 3600X will then be in an even more desolate no man's land than it is now and possibly be discontinued.

That's why retailers are keen to reduce current inventories.

Maybe my 3600X only a few months old boosts to 4.4ghz on 4/6 cores and never drops below 4.1ghz under full load. Its also stable at 1900 fclk which is apparently a bit uncommon. With the X i think it's much more likely to get high fclk. Some 3600s cant even do 1800 fclk stable.

      • Then there's me over here unable to get 1766 FCLK stable on a 5 month old 3500X.

  • Would you say this is better value for gaming than the 3300x?

    • +1

The 3600 is the best value CPU overall. Get that over anything.

      • if you plan on keeping the PC for a few years then get the 3600,

    • +1

It depends on a whole lot of factors. If you are doing 1080p gaming on a 60hz monitor, then the 3300X is better value in most cases. The 3600 is a much better dollar/frame value as long as the rest of what you have is supporting this.

    • I’m building a new nas and security cam box to replace my n54l, with a 3300x.

      • +1

3200g would probably be your best bet.

        • Any NVR benefits with the 3300x over the 3200g or negligible (up to 4 cams)? Assume both will meet existing video streaming needs via media server given what the N54L is capable of.

    • 3300x for gaming. 3600x for gaming + CPU intensive work loads (rendering etc) Depends on your budget but if you just game, 3300x is perfectly fine + $100 cheaper.
I might add that the majority of games these days and upcoming don't even utilize more than 4 cores but it helps a little bit.

  • It's gone back up in price. Missed it by … that much.

    • +3

      3600 is still 280 though

      • Thanks, I didn't think of that!

  • It's a great deal.I bought this last week $357 from Amazon.

    • Its not a great deal when its expired

      • Just as strange how it got 30 more up votes after it had expired. Does anyone actually read a link before voting?

        • +6

Sometimes I vote when expired just to show that I'm interested in this sort of deal even though I missed out.
I think it helps shape the community and what sort of deals get posted even if only in a small way.
